guest Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I purchased a pack of Z Man finesse worms on a whim last week, and after using them (one of them) I feel like I have to post about them. They are extremely tough and have great action. I caught 4 bass on one worm and was admiring how well it was holding up. On the next cast I hooked a small (~2lb) alligator gar and after carefully removing the hook from his razor sharp toothed jaws, the worm was still in tact and fishable. After this I switched to a top water lure, and the used worm went back in the pack for later use. Another great thing about these worms is they hold on to barbs very well. I like to fish all of my texas rigged plastics on a straight shank hook with a heavy cover bait keeping barb on the shank. The Z man finesse worm did not slip down the shank of the hook once, even after catching 5 fish. Due to the amazing durability, I just ordered a bunch of Z man plastics. I wish the offered more colors and varieties because I would replace all of my plastics with these. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 4, 2012 Super User Posted June 4, 2012 I have never tried them, but have had an interest in trying them on the drop shot. After what you've said, I'll just have to give them a whirl. Quote
Revo_Carrot Stix Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The ElaZTech component is awesome. Before Zman came out with their soft plastic line, Strike King had it in their Zero (senkos) and think in their Zulu (fluke). I can average 12-15 bass per worm. 5-pack Zeros will last just as long or longer than 25 Yum Dingers, so I assume the Zman baits are just as good. When the worm/baits start to float, it's time for a new one. I don't think I've ever had one tear on me! Quote
Lake Forest Bassin Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I have some Strike King finesse worm's for my shakey head jig's,I've had them at least 2 years and they are still catching fish. Quote
logan9209 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Crestliner2008, I can attest that they work on a dropshot. The worms naturally float so on a drop shot the tails stick up. A third of my bass last month was from the ZMan lizards and I didn't have to tear a head off to reuse or anything like that. I will say this and it's very important: DO NOT PUT THEM WITH OTHER PLASTICS. They will shrivel up really bad. My ZMan chatterbait came with an Elaztech split tail grub. Like an idiot I put it with my other jigs. The grub shriveled to a little nub. The other plastics weren't affected. Just the Elaztech. Unfortunately around here only wally world carries it. 2 colors in the saw tail worms and 2 colors in the lizards. But, they are worth it. Still would like to try Strike King's 3x finesse worms though. *sigh* Quote
guest Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys the benefits of a durable plastic . I bought some of the trailers as well, which was probably a mistake. That is one duty where the elaztech plastic will probably prove to be problematic. At least they were only $2 from my favorite online tackle shop! I feel like these worms will save me a fortune in the long run. I used to be lucky to catch 2 fish on one worm, now one worm last me all day! I hate loosing a plastic because it pollutes the waterways and can be ingested by fish, harming them. These Z man plastics will significantly reduce the amount of plastics I lose on missed hook sets. A-Rob Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Like mentioned above...Don't store them with any other plastic or else they melt! I love how the elaztech material floats....drop shot the zman finesse worm and it has unreal action bc of it Quote
Traveler2586 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 I saw the Z-Man ad on Fishing University and read some reviews elsewhere, sounds interesting. How do they react with different skirt materials? Quote
A-Rob Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 I saw the Z-Man ad on Fishing University and read some reviews elsewhere, sounds interesting. How do they react with different skirt materials? My zman chatterbait has an elaztech trailer that came with it and never melted with the skirt on the chatterbait.....pretty sure it is just a silicone skirt and not elaztech at all. So I would hope the trailers would go fine with your favorite brand jig Quote
logan9209 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 The skirt is fine. Where I went wrong was having a jig with a zoom chunk trailer right next to the chatterbait with the elaztech grub. Of course they shift during travel. Before anyone says it, yes I had already seen the warning on the package. I was just curious to see what would happen. Quote
Diggy Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Ive made the mistake of mixing them with regular worms, sheesh, so messy Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 5, 2012 The finesse worms are great on a split shot rig or C-rig because they float. I like the flipping craw for a jig trailer because the claws float and it slows the fall down a little. You can easily catch 10 or more fish per bait and those pesky bluegills and sunfish won't bite the tail off your worms anymore. Quote
Bair Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Love the durability of Z-Man products. Find a lot of the time I'm putting plastics back in the bag to be used on the next trip. Quote
