I was introduced to this lure from another S.Florida member.  I was hesitant to buy them until he started getting some good blow ups on MY honey hole.  Before I show yall the lure, I want to put out a big Thank You to Jason "Hawk" for making me a believer.  I would have never known about this lure, up until now anyways, if it hadn't been for BassResource and having the opportunity to meet and fish with Hawk.

Here is my streak fishing with this lure so far.  I have fished six different lakes on eight different days (over a 2 month period) and have caught at least one bass on each trip.  Most trips have produced multiple fish while some trips only lasted 30 minutes or so.

I'm sure many of yall know about or have used this bait but it is new to me and it is steadily becoming my "go to" bait over the Fluke.  And I fish Flukes EVERY outing.

The swimming action on these baits are unbelievable and they hold up very well.

I rig mine with a Gamakatsu 4/0 weighted superline spring-lock 3/16ounce hook and I use the 4.5 inch bait mostly.

I've also thrown the 5.5 inch bait as well but I can't find the hooks bigger than 5/0. The 5.5 inch is a little meatier and 5/0 are a bit too small. 6/0 would be a good size.

Unlike the Fluke, twitching is not needed. Simply use a straight retrieve. You can vary your retrieve speed until you find how fast/slow the bass want them.

The most important thing is to rig them straight and insert the spring-lock through the center part of the nose.

I haven't tried other hooks yet so you can experiment.  I was told to use the hook I mentioned.

I have been using the 3 1/2" Live Magic Shad

as the trailer for the Sworming Hornet. This

rig has been one of my few producers lately.

Anyone out there from Jersey who has tried these? Pm me if you have, I am curious on a good color.

Those work great on chatterbaits and scroungers.

Cool idea. What size are you using on Chatterbaits, the 3.5" or the 4.5"?

Great bait that has good action with more consistent hook ups than the average soft swimbait.... HOWEVER.... they have below average durability at best, and usually require replacement after just a couple fish.

Any advice on how your keeping it slid up on the jig?  I've tried glue but it seems to only add maybe one fish at best and become more of a mess than anything.

Another tip:  Use one of your favorite jig N pig heads (skirtless) instead of the stock head that comes with them.  The weed guard makes these killer in and around brush piles where the normal one hangs instantly.

Using this weighted swimbait hook:

I have caught well over 10 fish with one bait, in one outing, without any super glue or mend it. That's pretty durable when compared to most soft plastics. But like BassnBlvd said, these things catch fish. They work in all conditions, in any body of water holding Bass. Its simply one of those baits every fisherman should have in there arsenal.

These are killer baits, but you will go through them quickly on a hot bite.I've found the best way to get more life out of plastics is to do the following.

1. take a razor and slice through from the tip of the lure about a 1/2'' or so back.

2. Take the razor and slice it the oposite way forming a cross in the nose of the bait.

3. Take ur favorite glue (I use regular super glue and generously glue the insides of the bait.

I came up with this specifically for this bait.  It also will save a ton of senkos.

I have the Imakatsu Javallon ( the bait the Live Magic Shad was copied from ) and the Live Magic Shad. The Javallon has a slightly better action and responds better than the LMS, but:

1.- The Javallon is a lot softer and breaks to pieces if you happen to sneeze hard on the bait, so the durability sucks, I 've even had baits sliced in half if they happen to tangle with the line, let alono about how many fish you can squeeze out of a bait, it 's usually one bait per fish and in the worse case scenario no fish.

2.- No matter what you do the Javallon is not as easy to rig weedless like the LMS, in theory a 3/0 hook is right for the 4.5 " size .... yeah, right  ::), try rigging it with a 3/0 hook and pretty soon you find out it 's too big for the slot or I should say the slot is too short for the hook, add to that the fact that the bait breaks and you ruin a bait in an eyeblink. Well then you may think, why not a 2/0 hook, oh well, then it 's too short and the gap is not wide enough. This does not happen with the LMS.

3.- Javallons are quite expensive per se, add to that the cost of shipping and you end up with a pretty expensive bait. The LMS is a lot cheaper.

It 's a case where not always the original/import is as good as the copy.

one of my favorites i don't leave the house without these.

it made my "top 5 bait" list   :)

yes, they don't hold up real well...but they are worth it.

i like the idea lightsout had about cross slicing and gluing.

What colors do you guys like? I have some of the Green/Pearl belly but never got bit on them. I guess I should give them a try again...

The silver/white belly is all that I've used. Add some markings from a red spike-it marker and you have a pike MAGNET.

I like using it on just a ballhead jig. I've had some good luck experimenting by cutting the head of the lure, putting the jighead inside and gluing it back so just the line tie sticks out the top. The end result  looks like a tube rigged w/an internal jighead. It's much more stream lined and natural. This gives it a great "lift and drop" action.

Some models come with the hooks with the lead on the shank but I've never been a fan of that style rigging. I'm sure its a mental thing, but it's just too unnatural looking for my taste.

I've stumbled across a few more ways to rig these things but thats classified  ;D

Why is it classified?  Why bother posting in this section if your not going to share ideas?  Obviously the rigging style you mentioned above sucks or it would be classified too.

I shared several ideas between the 2 posts. I was shown one thing by a friend that I didnt wanna plaster on the internet. The point was that you can do alot of diffrent things with these baits.

Obviously the rigging style you mentioned above sucks

Obviously stating something "sucks" without trying it doesnt lend any credibilty to your opinion.

I don't get it. Do you do this prior to rigging the bait? How does it help extend the life of the LMS?
