drop-shot fool Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I broke one of the middle guides off my rod and was wondering if this will affect the rods performance. The rod has 10 guides and i broke the 6th one off which is a little ways pass the midpoint. I only use the rod for short casts or skipping and pitching docks. Quote
jkarol24 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 It will work, but you may loose some of the rods flex... Its a pretty easy repair, just need some thread (braided fishing line will work), epoxy, and a new guide of similar size. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 It'll be usable in a pinch but have it repaired. Well placed guides distrbute the stress proportionately along the blank missing guides will create added stess in that spot. This isn't necessarily an imminent failure waiting to happen but the chances are increased depending on the application. I wouldn't be horsing big fish out of heavy cover with it foe example. A local rod builder would charge about $10 for the repair and it should match the original pretty well. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 I agree with Delaware. Find a local rod repair service and you will be surprised at how inexpensive it is to replace the line guide and it will be done correctly. Quote
