I keep catching them in the same area of the pond. Now my girlfriend is getting frustrated because she hasn't caught anything in the past couple days lol. She likes using live shiners more than soft plastics and lures so I am going to pick her up some tomorrow. There is a pond on the corner of veterans parkway and racetrack that I am going to check out tomorrow. I saw a father and son fishing there on fathers day. I wanna find some other nice spots that have some big fish in them because mine has really slowed up compared to the amount of fish I was pulling in before. But there is a monster and I mean monster in my lake. My girl saw it first on Saturday around 1pm. She was freaking out about how big it was and when I looked over I just saw a huge cloud of mud in the water from when it swam off. Then about a hour later or so I just went down to the water without my rod and saw the beast chilling exactly where my girl said she saw it. They always look a lot smaller, to me atleast, when they are in the water and this one had to be at least 10# if not more! Quote

This was definitely a bass had the green tint with black on it. It was about 2 feet or so from the shore line basically taunting me saying I dare you try and catch me I bet you won't lol. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted June 22, 2012 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2012 I was out fishing last night before the Heat game.... i caught this 4.5# on a black and blue jig. I casted out once and brought it back, then I casted in the exact same spot and then boom the fish took it I set the hook and it swam right to the top of the water and jumped out. It was a hell of a fight it jumped out of the water 4 times before i finally got it on shore. I caught this 2.4# today around 6:30pm using a 5 inch Senko worm. This one took the senko right as I was about to take it out of the water and recast. Not too much of a fight at all since it was right there. I caught this 3.6# about 20 minutes later on the same 5 inch Senko worm. This fish put up a hell of a fight as well jumped out about 2 times and it was pretty strong. This weekend I am going to hit up a few local lakes around my house and see what I catch. If I get and nice ones I will post some of them.... if all else fails then I will pack up and go in my backyard and try to get the monster I saw last weekend. Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 23, 2012 Super User Posted June 23, 2012 Nice ones. Where u heading? Just some local JCP neighborhood lakes? Bite has been pretty good last two days, yesterday especially. Good luck Quote

Bite has been pretty good last two days, yesterday especially. Good luck I fished the pond on the corner of racetrack and veterans and caught 3 2# and I missed about 2 other fish. Then I fished this one pond in one of the developments heading towards publix but no luck. Now I am back home and I'm using google earth to find a pond close to me and check it out. You heading out this weekend? I am probably going to check out those ponds u told me about by the citi bank complex on old saint Augustine either later today or tomorrow Quote

If you head over that way take right at second light past 95 the funny shaped pond on left in the business park before u get to the Citi bank ponds. I fished it a few weeks ago had a few strikes, it was during the week it rained a lot and fishing was slow. If the weather holds of might take the family out for blue gills n such or go to the beach. Wife just got a license to fish and a crem rig lol Quote

Good to see another local from Jax on this site that can offer some new spots to fish. As far as the pond that you found and got kicked from as long as there's no "no trespassing signs" or "no fishing from people's backyard (says something to that effect)" then it is fair game. I got pulled over for the HID head lights I have on my car when I was coming back from fishing and the cop happened to fish as well so I was asking him some questions about the area and regulations.... and he didn't even give me a ticket or a written warning! But the fishing has slowed up TBH the past 2 weeks or so. I use to catch a lot more in my pond and now it has slowed down significantly. Now I usually catch a majority of my fish between 4:30 and 8:30pm. I think you are right about them going deeper because I use to see them along the banks and caught them fairly close to shore. Now I don't see any and rarely see them chase the bait to shallow waters. That is why I fish closer to when it starts to get dark out because the temps cool down and I figure they come to shallower water to eat. I am trying to find a new pond that has big fish in it but so far I haven't had much luck. I'll probably check out some ponds over by baymeadows this week. Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 24, 2012 Super User Posted June 24, 2012 You ever make it to the citi banks ponds? It is about to rain some more! Ponds are gonna get even higher. Some it is good some it makes it harder. If you go in the am the are pretty shallow on the outside of the weeds. The big one I spotted was up there with them but just not biting. If your head up to bay meadows follow it around until it turns to gate you will be in heaven bro we went that way to St johns towncenter and ibsaw tons of spots. there are also spots off JTB and 95 iv fished one off ac skinnerI Quote
Broke bass fisherman Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Told my wife we are goin to have to move to Jacksonville. She wasn't impressed with my rationale. 1 Quote

I am definitely going to go check them out one day when the weather clears up. Quote

I didn't really like Jacksonville when I use to come down and visit then when I moved here I love it. I was from NJ so FL is like heaven especially when it comes to fishing. Quote

It seems like every single development in Jax has at least one pond in it all which hold fish. Every time I go somewhere I see ponds and people fishing. I have heard some good stories about VA fishing as well. My girlfriend has family in VA so when we decide to visit them I am bringing my fishing gear and am going to spend at least 2 to 3 days checking out the VA fish. Quote

It is nice to be able to drive or walk to a pond 5 minutes away instead of a 20 or 30 minute ride minimum to get skunked. Nothing wrong with va lakes and rivers but being without a boat and mostly pond fishing as a kid I enjoy that much better. Nice to go saltwater fishing too which I am going work on doing more of that. Quote

So I am guessing probably around Friday. I am really excited about my first born, but that means I will have to cut down on fishing for the next couple of months which I am not excited about lol. With all of the getting up early and feeding him and changing him I will be doing a lot of morning fishing now thats for sure 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 25, 2012 Super User Posted June 25, 2012 Well congrats to both of u. Good luck. Hope all goes well, God Bless. Deffinatly first month or two sleep is tough. But u already got the right idea. When mine would wake up for the 5 or 6 am feedings, drop baby back down and hit the water for a few hours while they all sleep. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted June 25, 2012 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2012 That is exactly what I plan on doing hopefully the big ones are out when the time comes Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 25, 2012 Super User Posted June 25, 2012 My biggest so far guess it was about 5 pounds was at around 8 am. N my second biggest around 3 pounds was at just before 6 am Quote
