Has anyone have any trouble with skirt staying on the Booyah Swim Jig. I got the one in bluegill (really more of a brown/black). The skirt attempts to come off every other casts. If I was getting strikes I would understand but I'm not. The only way it stays on is if I have a trailer on. Which isn't right. I should be able to use it without a trailer to give it a smaller profile. Right?

Here's a pic of it I got from lurenet.com:

You always want to use a trailer on a jig or swim jig. I have never used the Booyah swim jig but if you want a smaller profile then go with a smaller trailer and cut it down smaller if desired. I never really use any trailer under 4 inch on my swim jigs.

That's because they are mass produced with a rubber keeper and not hand tied. My favorite swim jig and bluegill imitation swim jig is the NorthStar Custom Baits "new gill". You will NEVER have issues with the skirt sliding down on this jig.

Except how the line ties on I would say that my Hart Tackle jig isn't much different.

That's a pic from harttackle.com. In fact it's the exact color I have. Given the over all design of yours, Vinnie, I would say that I could probably swim the HT jig the same way. That skirt has never given me any problems.

Anyways, I don't want to waste the jig. I am on a budget so purposely losing the jig is not my.............wait, I'm stupid. The purpose of a swim jig is to imitate fish (much like a spinnerbait) so it is better to have a trailer on it that gives swimming action in conjunction with the undulating skirt.

Sorry guys. Maybe I should have my head re-examined before making another post. *sigh*

But the skirt does still tend to move around like the strands will shift more to one side or the other (talking about the Booyah Swim Jig now). How would I fix that issue?

i use them with the rattles as well and mine seem fine with/without a trailer although i always use a trailer... i get the majority of mine from custombasstackle dotcom and they are on ebay i use 1/4 "neon gill" and i kill it with yum crawbug trailer im gettin 20-30 lbs a day and i only fish for a lil bit!! i would tie a thread or maybe some spiderwire/fireline around it to hold it in place

When my mass produced jigs rubber bands start to go bad I have a collection of wire ties from loafs of bread, garbage bags basically anything i can get one from I just strip the plastic or burn the paper off it and hand tie/wrap the wire where the rubber band is. Some times when I bored and have time to burn I will put the wire on the skirts before it goes bad.

I very seldom have problems with bands as they are a lot better than what they used to be. I wire tie some skirts but I would rather the band because I usually take 3 or 4 spinnerbaits with me and 3 swim jigs, in my bait binder I carry 2 dozen skirts, if I need to change my presentation I simply change the skirt out, this is much better than retying as it save a lot of time during tournaments. The best part is I still have the skirt, if I tie them well then I have to cut the thread or wire and I'm left with a mess. I stopped using big brand jigs and spinnerbaits a long time ago but if I had the problem the poster is describing, I'd look and see if one of the custom builders would make a skirt up and then change it out to one that won't slip.

Um......is it safe to assume that you meant "poster" and not "poser"? :)

A quick fix is to use a small cable tie to lock the skirt in place.

That jig pictured has a 60 degree hook and a thick weedguard, it is different then our original swim jig. Most swim jigs have a 30 degree hook (light to medium wire) and a lighter weedguard.

IMHO take a look at any of the smaller shiops making stuff, either us *link at bottom of the post, or Seibert Outdoors (*link at side of page) we are both sponsors of this page and put out way better quality Jigs and SPinnerbaits then booyah could ever think of. 5yr olds in Guatemala really dont care about quality, they only care about whether they are getting there 5 pennies a day.

I wouldn't suggest booyah to anyone just for personal reasons. I bought 2 spinnerbaits and after the 2nd cast with the first one, the skirt was gone.. the second one got a big crack in the head when I was casting to a rock.

This was last year. I haven't bought any since. Waste of money, complete garbage.
