Yes you will feel more bits with tungsten but what it really shows is how poor you were with a Texas Rig.

::)

Do you ever stop?

Kiss the rings, Burley.  Bow down.

My youngest son was listening to Pat & I discuss this and asked "it's being that adept at feeling a bite when fishing a Texas Rig what y'all are trying to teach me? And if so should I not be able to feel like that with lead as well as tungsten?".

So I should tell him no you will only develop that sense of feel with tungsten?

Idk about you, but anytime Catt speaks, I listen.

I don't think I have ever missed a bite because my sinker was lead or felt a bite because of a tungsten sinker; however, the tungsten sinker does transmit the feel of the bottom better than lead.  I have a better chance of telling if the bottom is a shell bed or just small rocks with tungsten, I agree that you should feel a bite no matter what sinker you use.

i dont use it. im sure that they are worth every cent , but im also sure that if i do start using them , i wont be able to go back to lead for my t-rigs.

The way tungsten "feels" when it comes in contact with another object heightens our awareness of what is taking place with our lure thus increasing our "feel" for the bite but it's something we should already be adept at when fishing a Texas Rig.

Y'all really want to increase you "feel" with a Texas Rig? Fish it at night with or without tungsten :)

I strongly disagree with that statement. Because a more sensitive weight makes it possible to feel more strikes does not mean you were bad fisherman with a lead weight. We spend big bucks for a sensitive rod and a lot of dough for sensitive line. Why not more sensitive weights?

I'm with Catt on this one. Sensitivity in line and rod are absolutely essential to feel what is going on with the bait. Tungsten clearly transmits more information about what is on the bottom, rocks, gravel, shells, whatever. The issue is how does the weight material change the feel of the bite? Does it really matter if a 1/4 oz weight is made of lead or tungsten when a fish picks it up?

ok so if you get better feel of whats on the bottom ... then wouldent you get a better ideal of where your bites are coming from ?? for instance if you bounce a toungston of a log there is no doubt that it was a log and you get bit ... would you wanna fish more logs or timber ... bottom line here toungston offers more postitives than negs and is a better materal than lead ... if you chose to fish lead by all means fish it ... for me there is no other choice than toungston ... i like knowing where im geting bit and on what structure they are on ... i like knowing my weight if compact and will come through cover easier ... i like the feel toungston offers when structure fishing ... i believe toungston is for the guy that really wants to dial into the bite or the guy that really wants to understand what structure he is getting bit on ... also lets no forget if you break of a toungston weight your not leaving a chunk of lead on the bottom of the lake ...

With lead you feel the tap tap, with tungsten it is more of a thump. And as some have already said, you can feel the bottom and the structure much better. I even use tungsten jigs when I can
