chobee Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I did a double take a few days ago on Lake Okeechobee I saw a sawtooth fish. I went home and looked it up on the computer just to make sure.I know they live in salt water but has anyone ever heard of them being in fresh water. And no I was not drinking or smoking anything funny I was in about 1-2 ft of water and the water was clear Quote

etommy28 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Really? I've seen Snook caught on Lake O but never a shark. Where did you hear that from? Well.... I ahve seen 3 bull sharks in okeechobee in the last 4 years, one between uncle joes and the moor haven locks, one in the kissimmee river and one near kings bar so i would say there are some sharks, its not hard for them to get in the locks from either coast. we have caught sawfish 20 miles up the calussahatchee so I can believe one could make it there. its the same way the manatees get there. Gotfishyfingers? Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 How big was it? what area? I don't doubt sharks either and I've seen manatees also. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 3, 2012 Super User Posted June 3, 2012 According to Wikipedia all sawfish van live both fresh and saltwater. Bull sharks have be know swim up river as far as 2000 miles, in the Amazon and India. The other day I was walking at the the Boynton inlet and saw an enormous dorsal fin, as I was 100' away I couldn't get close enough to see what it was. As the fin lowered into the water it was obvious it was a shark, not that long ago a 14' great white was in Ft Lauderdale area. This fish appeared to be bigger than 14', but we'll never know. Quote
