(='_'=) Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 hey... i need to remove the motor of my boat for the restoration process.... it is a Johnson, 85 HP, 4 cilinders, from around 1977 or so... how much does it weights?? thanx!! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 2, 2012 Super User Posted June 2, 2012 It has to be close to 300 pounds. More than you want to lift, even with a helper. For safety and security, you need to lift it with this type of hoist. If you don't have one, borrow or rent one. You don't need one as hefty as the one in the image below. Quote
(='_'=) Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 thanx.... i was thinking in the 200 kg range, that would be about 450 pounds... i tried to find a hoist like the one you mention, but i couldnt... however, i removed my motor yesterday, completely effortless, completely safe, and with things i already had at my house.... i will post pics on My Restoration thread.... Shawn Dompierre Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I've got a 175 johnson, removed it myself and lowered it on a dolly, I got my brother to give me a hand to stand it back up in the corner. Quote
freebie Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 that motor weighs 390. it can be removed without a lift but I wouldn't recommend it. if you have to do it you unbolt it and balance it on the lower end so you can slowly lower the heavy end to the ground. I would recommend having 3 guys present for this. also if you need parts for this the shop I work at has a large supply of older evinrude/johnson parts. Ryan Quote
(='_'=) Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 thanx freebie!! i already got it down, i had to install 2 climbing bolts on one of the crossbars of my house and hang a cable hoist there, and we lowered the motor without a problem... and, im looking for a trim system, would you have one on the shop??
