I live in Pompano, and its about a 40 minute drive to the sawgrass recreation park, is there anywhere near there i could fish from the shore and catch decent bass without getting eaten by gators? thanks.

I would try to fish some residential canals in margate, coconut creek, and coral springs.

It is difficult to fish the canal banks at Sawgrass, the Alley, etc because of limited access...the fishing has been slower due to high and moving water.

Yeah ive fished alot of parkland lakes but never caught anything over 4 pounds. i want to get some bigger ones,

About 20 minutes north of Sawgrass you will find the Holeylands at the Broward/Palm Beach line. I bet you can't walk all the shore access there in an entire weekend. And, there are very big fish out there.

I live in pompano too and I always fish out biggys in residential lakes an ponds in cocnut creek parkland and margate.

Well i guess im doing somthing wrong lol, im just jigging a plastic weighted worm on the bottem mostly. Anywhere in particular u go?

parkland on johnson i believe go west its a lake on right and left just west of 441 i use topwater toad there seen biggys but i hit baby 4lbr. and behind bjs i hit a 5lbr on a topwater crawfish color zoom frog

The problem with residential lakes is that most are private with no access to them. Even if you can enter a non gated community you have to walk behind someones house to fish, I have seen very few residents willing to let you walk on their property. I have 6 ponds and a canal where I live, in the cooler months I catch quite a few 3-5#, I've caught up to 8# in my ponds, now with the heat fishing is pretty dead here now.

If you want to bass, fish canals or public parks may be your best bet. Personally, this is the time of the year I focus on other species

There are lots of neighborhood canals in Coral Springs, Margate, and Coconut Creek that are not gated communities. Still, you need to be respectful and try to avoid the back yards.

There are also big snakes, as you know sometimes to get some big boys (Bass) that's sitting under brush you walk into the bushes on the bank and I almost placed my right foot down on a Mocinson (spelling) snake coiled up in the bushes, trying to get that perfect cast to a bush and something say look down to where your about to step with my foot in the air...........Holy is the word that 1st came out of my mouth mixed with some other words behind it.. ...LOL. I was on the bank jumping around calling my partner, that ended my day in Holyland......So the point Im making becareful of where you walking.

In 9 years of living in Florida full time I've had only 2 encounters with snakes while fishing, I regard every snake in the world as a water mocasin or coral snake, I'm not excited about having a 3 rd vis a vis. I have been to many places with underbrush, I don't do that anymore, it's pretty much community ponds where the grass is mowed.

take 595 west to u.s 27. go north on 27 until you get to the broward/palm beach county line. There is a sign that says "leaving broward county" and another that says entering palm beach county. Look for a big brown sign that says Holy lands you can't miss it. MAKE A U-TURN. Then make your first right. thats the beginning, the canal is on your left and is easily 15 miles long to the pump house. There is also a boat ramp abut 5 miles in. Check it out on google earth.
