airborne_angler Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Anyone else have issues of getting a bite, setting the hook, only to have your Rage Craw come back stripped of its claws? Had a few occurrences yesterday. On one occasion I had what felt like might be a soft strike,I gave it some tension to determine if it was weeds or not.and it was like a tug of war,I got the bait away from the fish, only to have that fish or another come right back and grab it again.Mustve been a Bluegill or Green Sunfish, because the claws were gone when I finished the retrieve. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 31, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 31, 2012 Small bass will steal your pinchers too. I set the hook anyways. I'd rather loose the claws on my bait than pull it away from a light biting big fish. I don't remember who it was that said it but someone on here called a clawless Rage craw a "Rage Turd". On a bad day I'll have Rage Turds all over the bottom of the boat 1 Quote
airborne_angler Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Rage Turd...Thats Classic. Yea swinging and missing doesnt cost anything except a little energy and sometimes aggravation and frustration. Makes it so worth it when you suspect its a strike, but cant tell for sure, swing and get a solid mass that almost rips the rod out of your hand when it doubles over, not that its REALLY ever happened, but I can imagine. jkarol24 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Small bass will steal your pinchers too. Hmm, i have just the opposite thought. I've found that bigger fish will steal the claws and not take the whole thing (maybe they are cautious, smarter, who knows...). On the contrary, smaller fish seem to be more aggressive and eat the whole thing. On a side note, i've recently downsized my jig trailers so that the claws are very close to and/or are in the skirt so the fish would have a hard time eating just the claws. I've noticed a decent increase in hookups and size. Quote

Ima Bass Ninja Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Happens allot in the rivers i fish. throw a bait in there and its like a machine gun going off on your bait. I had to switch to yum money craw so i wouldn't blow thruogh 2 packs a day. The claws on those are much thicker and i don't get nearly the amount of lost claws due to bluegill. Quote
Mumpy Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 This is funny, because last week I had a Spotted Bass take one of my Claws off my RageCraw and I immediately took it off, threw it away and put a new one on. 5 casts later, another claw gone, immediately took it off, threw it away, put another one back on. Then my dad say's to me... "Have you never seen a Crawdad with one Claw?" Which got me to thinking... Wouldn't this give the Crawdad a more "Vulnerable" apperance to a fish? lol, just a thought Quote
airborne_angler Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Yeah it would give it a vulnerable appearance, but I'm not sure the action on the Rage Craw would be so pronounced and attractive. May even throw the bait off kilter so it would be out of balance. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted June 2, 2012 Super User Posted June 2, 2012 Lost 4 rage tail grubs to bluegills back to back casts.......They rip kinda easy. :/ I have caught a bunch of fish with them though...so I really can't complain too much. Quote
DrNip Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Happened here last weekend on me. Felt a double tug, tried setting the hook and that was it for the claws. Was left with a rage turd. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted June 2, 2012 Super User Posted June 2, 2012 I'll still use them with 1 claw some times but I have noticed times where the fish don't mind and others they do i'll toss it in 2 claws constant hits one gets ripped I throw it back in nothing a few casts of saying I don't understand happened I switch to a fresh bait and bam hits like crazy again. I will say that I had a Rage frog get one of its legs ripped off and they seemed to love it more. I caught 19 bass on it! Quote
