Connect Different Diamater Braid?

So I've got 50# spider wire on my casting rod, but as it's my first casting rod I ran into a few issues with overruns, and now i'm a little bit short on line left on the reel. I've got 125yds of 30# spider wire sitting around, and I'm looking to potentially put this on the baitcaster now as well... I've got a few questions though, Ideally I'd like to have this rigged up with 50# test but since i'm still learning a little bit on the casting reel, so I want to go ahead and reline with the 30# braid instead of going out and buying more 50#. My question is if it's possible to combine to different diameter braids on my reel? OR am I better suited stripping all of the remaining 50# braid off and just replacing it with the 30#?

Can you connect them? Sure.

For what its worth Ive been happy with 30lb stealth spooled on a couple reels. Got it on clearance a few years back and Ive been suprised at how good it is..

yeah you can connect them with a alberto knot the 30# will dig more but not as bad as lighter braid so if ur still learning might be best to keep 50# + on there but if you got a good grasp on the concept go for it. how short are you on spool more then like 2 cast lengths.

No, not that short... however I recently read that if you're spool isn't full or near full capacity you will get a lot less distance on your casts, any idea if this is accurate information?

And I'm starting to get a real good grasp on the technique, I just originally struggled a little bit and lost a decent amount of line because of it.

a unit-uni will work fine, but I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, mono under the 50 lb braid will work just fine, if you are still learning, 30 lb braid might not be a good idea, as far as filling the spool, I find different rod/bait combinations cast best with slightly varying amounts of line, I find I'm happiest between 3/4 and 7/8 full, the biggest exception is heavy braid, where I like it topped off. I know I'll sound like a favorite old 45, but try it and see what works for you.

Makes sense. On a full spool of line, more line will be coming off the spool per revolution than with a lesser amount of line. Therefore, the spool with less line will have to spin faster and more times to send off the same amount of line as the fully packed spool of line. I hope that made sense, i can picture it but cant quite put it in words...
