Koppers Live Target are the best of that bunch.

Buy one of each and then decide for yourself. I have been buying snag proof since I was literally getting an allowance and ownded all the classics they came out with (even the worms, salamanders, ..ect). I have 2 spro's and 2 Kopper's. I do not have a bad thing to say about any of them.

I have a frog affliction and have tried and used many if not all on the market currently. With that said there is not one best hollow bodied frog, but my personal favorite is the Spro popping frog. I like Ish's phat frog, river to sea, and koppers also.

Cool picture South FLA. How do you like that Deps Frog ? Anyway based on the ones I have tried so far I prefer the Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect Frog & the Spro Popper frog.

I have been using the Koppers lately and really like them. I haven't bought a Spro frog in a long time but the last ones I had would fill with water and sink like a rock after a couple of casts.

Both Koppers and Spro. If the pads coverage is quite dense, I would go with a Koppers, they have an action like they are trying to jump out of the water. If there is a lot of open water in between pads I would go Spro, they walk better. Both are excellent when applied to the correct situation... Some complain of dull hooks on Koppers, but I have eight of them and never got a dull hook yet.

Deps frog is great, works like a jitterbug and hook-up ratio is incredible with it.

Thanks for the reply, I've been tempted to add this one to the rotation. Looks like I will pick up a couple of them next time I'm purchasing frogs. It's definitely a bait that's piqued my interest and is unique offering in this category of lures.

It used to be SPRO ALL THE WAY, in my opinion...but the frog business has grown so much in the last couple of years there's SO MANY options...I agree the popping frog is nice from spro I like the narrowed down profile. I enjoy the deps basirisky frog especially along edges of tullies...in more open water/not super heavy mats. Big mats inhibit it's action. I am excited for the dahlberg frog from just using it a little so far the versatility seems intriguing although not a soft frog..it seems there's a lot of things I could do with it...but the Jackall Iobee is one of my new favs...it is built so well and walks so well. The Koppers is awesome too because of it's realism/detail. That company is phenomonal..I love the size options they give on the Koppers frog too...I believe that to be critical...

Don't underestimate the incredible power of the SPRO JR. Or any other smaller-sized frog-because just like with ANY fishing when u can't buy a bite on something larger, downsizing can make a big diff. I looove my frogs as well and have a collection just like South FLA and I cannot tell u how many times I've tried to WILL them to bite a frog lol...and downsized to a smaller offering and caught em good. Didn't effect size of fish either. Last year in a club tourney we fished the crud out of a creek arm that was FILLED with matts/pads...spent 2 hours in the morning frogging a small 10 acre little arm with 2 bass totalling 3.5 lbs to show for it...we scrambled on the main lake deeper to get a decent limit...fish were everywhere just SMALL. We had 5 @ maybe 10.5-11lbs...a measly bag. This lake usually only needed 13-14 to win (we had placed 2nd before with 11.1lbs). So with an hour left we spent it in the same creek arm figuring a later afternoon frog bite could cull us and give us the win...Fished regular sized spro and my buddy had an Ish frog on...with a 1/2 hour w/ no bite (the creek arm was 2 minutes from weigh in/ramp) I tied on the Jr. Size spro...2nd cast BANG, 5.1lbs...about 3 casts later, 4lber, then my buddy ties one on...first cast 6.3 lbs...I could NOT believe it.

It was a fishing moment that really taught me a lot. we went from MAYBE 11lbs to a weigh-in weight of 19.4lbs and lunker for the tournament...2nd was about 15lbs and 3rd 12.5. We wouldn't have even had 3rd if it wasnt for the last minute decisiont to downsize. We knew bass were there. We tried punchin mats, we tried lots of frogs...but the smaller frog turned em instantly on. I wanted to stay and fish i knew there was more hogs in the creek arm.

The next season- what do u know? half the boats ventured for that creek arm first thing in the AM lol...10 acres choked w/ 10 boats...ridiculous. LOL oh well...

on heavy pads, LT or a kvd, they have rattles or insert rattles into LT, i would think that may help

I hate to clutter this thread but this is another real good post on this subject. Great thread guys and lots of good info. I've caught fish on frogs but certainly don't consider myself an expert as I tend to rely on crankbaits & swimbaits as my preferred methods but I'm all ears with frog fishing as I intend on utilizing this technique more. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

I've used a bunch (BPS/TruTungsten/Koppers/SproJr/KVD/Booyah/Bobby's Perfect). The best "walker" is the Booyah. Spro Jr has the best hook up ratio for me, maybe it's because it's so "bite-sized". I would be happy for the rest of my life with just those 2 frogs.

I used to use the Snag Proof Scum frogs, but now only use them for pike. I think that you can't go wrong with the Spro or Live Target and prefer those brands.

Posted

The only knock I have on spro is after a lot of fish the hooks begin to catch the plastic, I always wind up having bending them out but have lost fish between the transition.

I always had good luck with those original Scum Frogs.

I also like the Spro frogs. The other brands are not readily available locally so my experience if them are limited. The Spro popping frog has it own dedicated rod and it always on deck except in mid winter.

In terms of fish caught last year, the scum frog popper was the undisputed winner. I believe the spro comes through very heavy cover better though.
