Traveler2586 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I had a good day on the water this Memorial Day, went out to fish a peaceful little spot I know. But just as an observation; as I was pulling away from my home I noticed my flag was wrapped on it's pole and thought this is not the day to be wrapped, I need to fix that when I returned. My 30 min. drive to the ramp is mainly back roads past many homes and small stores. As I had my flag on my mind, I started noticing that I didn't see many flags that day, to or from the ramp, there should have been more than usual; that's sad really, we have so much we take for granted, and owe so many for their service to our country, but so few take time to remember. So I thought I should have a small flag to fly from my anchor light pole on these occasions; and I think I'll shop around and get one that will last. Dose anyone fly a flag on your bass boast? Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 30, 2012 Super User Posted May 30, 2012 Yup. Small American flag on the bow. Large. Raider flag on one side of the stern, large Jolly Roger on the other side of the stern. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 31, 2012 Super User Posted May 31, 2012 Here's how my memorial day ended on the water I have a bald eagle tattooed on my chest. Does that count? Quote
Super User tomustang Posted May 31, 2012 Super User Posted May 31, 2012 It's what America has turned into, holidays have become just a day to not work. We celebrate more stupid things then we should and it covers the real days of rest that have meaning. Barely anyone remembers what December 7th is suppose to represent, or even cares to, even kids aren't taught it in school anymore Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted May 31, 2012 Super User Posted May 31, 2012 In my neighborhood nearly everyone flew their flag. Patriotism runs deep in Tennessee. SALUTE! Quote

Barely anyone remembers what December 7th is suppose to represent, or even cares to, even kids aren't taught it in school anymore Pearl Harbor for those on here that didn't know I was never taught about it in school really and only know because I like WWII history specifically the pacific theater side of it. I don't Fly any flags on anything nor do I have any tattooed on me. I do have one on my uniform though im sure once I own my own place there will be a flag out front as well as when I get a boat but right now its not on anything but my uniform like every one elses. also a sad messed up part of what we have come to is we have the flag flying in the middle of the "square" here and its impossible not to go by it within 6ft meaning you have to salute the flag and there's guys here who will ***** about it or joke about not doing it when they should. I mean really its not that hard u get close you salute and keep on trucking doesn't slow you down any so what you have to raise your right arm. Same with scrambling to get inside or just ignoring taps or revile so you don't have to stop and stand at attention and salute. I will admit to the last one though where there's been times iv been walking out the door about to open it and hear it and just stop and wait usually when its raining though. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Well, here is what I've come up with so far. I don't like a decal as much as a flag, their not alive in so far as they don't stand in the wind. I've had three of these decals on my truck since I purchased it in 01; this subject line made me noticed those old decals were showing their age so I just replaced the three with new ones also. Quote

Traveler2586 Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 That prop had only seen the water 4 times. What did you hit, river rocks?? Boy, that's going to cost a few bills to repair, or is it totaled? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted June 2, 2012 Super User Posted June 2, 2012 Yep. Didn't want to fight the crowds on my home water on opening weekend LOL. There had already been an accident Sunday night where a speedboat ran over a pontoon and injured 6 people, one severly. DUI. This was actually part of the river my home water shares but, I was 30 miles south and much of the water isn't navigable. Went to looking for some smalies, which I did find although no size to them. I don't know if it's totalled or not. I added it to the pile to get repaired. New one was $119 at Cabelas. Ive been looking for a 14 or 15ft jon with at least a 42" bottom, but the "good" ones get scooped up before I get there. I may just say screw it and buy a new one. I've already got a 15hp evinrude in the garage just waiting for a boat. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 We had a similar problem with a friends boat on the upper Potomac in an area where the channel runs tight up against the bank, get out of the channel and BAM ! hit a solid rock on the bottom. He now has a River Runner attached to the lower unit to protect it from further damage; so far he reports it saved him on two other occasions in the same area. http://www.basspro.c...ct/20945/139176 Let's hope the rest of your summer is better Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 2, 2012 Super User Posted June 2, 2012 My wife and I run down the dead-end dirt road pictured below several days a week. It's 3 miles long, pretty much in the woods with 1 home at the very end. Clearly it gets very little use other than the home owner, many deer, us and our dogs. The home owner hangs flags up & down the entire length of the road every spring - one every 1/4 mile or so. I'll admit that we are both big-time flag huggers and the first time we came across this in the early morning fog, neither of us could talk - it was very cool . A-Jay Quote

The home owner is probably ex-serviceman, or has a child in the service. You ever talk to them?; if you do, please thank them for me for displaying our flag. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted June 2, 2012 Super User Posted June 2, 2012 Let's hope the rest of your summer is better It's the cost of fishing. I haven't been able to get out as much as I'd like because of work, but have cashed checks in 2 of the 3 tourneys I have fished so far.which covers my entry fees for the year. I can't complain. Quote

The first time he slowed as he passed, rolled down the window and with a big grin asked "How'd ya like those Flags ?" Of course our response was "Out - Standing ! " A-Jay Quote
