what do you guys think of these for football jigs?

I make a 1/4oz football jig with a 3/0 Owner 5304 deep throat jig hook and I have never lost a fish that was hooked on it. Those are stout hooks and I usually use them for flipping jigs but a guy I was making this football jig for showed me a neat way of using a football jig. The 1/4oz with the 3/0 hook makes for a small compact jig that is really good in less than 10' of water and I know what you're thinking, why use a football head in shallow water? Well I was shown that the smaller football head is a great tool to fish secondary points that begin shallow and move out to about 12 to 14' deep, fishing that jig shallow and working toward deeper water is a killer and it usually never makes in past 8' befoe it gets bit.

Very Soft Hooks. I set the hook on only ONE Dinky bass 1lb and the hook bent straight up. Definitely not going to use these hooks again. Nice looking hooks but a waste of $. Id stay with my Heavy wire Mustads. Very Thick and tough hooks!

As with all hooks, there may be a few that didn't temper as well and what happens is the hooks either bend easily or break or the points roll over, it has happened to most of us at one point or another. The reason I say this is I really like Mustad hooks but the Owner deep throat hook is about as stout of a hook you can get without being a straight shank flipping hook. If you are using any type of jig that features a heavy flipping hook and the hook bends or breaks, it is more than likely from a batch that didn't get fully tempered, they temper thousands of hooks at a time so to get a hook that is not tempered correctly can happen.

I agree with smalljaw67. I like these hooks as well. I have never had one bend. I ddi try to bend this hook once and it just snapped. So this is a very strong hook that I would recommend to anyone. They are also very light and since I use small jigs, it slows down the fall even more.

I like the fact they keep the trailer from sliding down the hook.

I use 50# braid and my line will break before my hooks bend.

This happened to my whole batch of 20 jigs with the deep throats, not just 1? Not sure what the problem here is....?

You bent the hook straight on 20 Owner hooks on one pound fish? How hard are you settin the hook!?

ahah LIKE MADNESS!!!! Just kidding... Lol i gave 10 too my cousin and 10 for myself, so this is not just all me.. We both set moderately. Like any regular hook set. Nothing HARD where the fish come flying out of the water... Two different users and still the same outcome..

Wow, I would definitely agree that is a manufacturing defect. I have only straightened ANY hook by getting it caught on a log and pulling it with heavy braid. The bass arent huge up here (4lbs is a nice fish) but I have caught them all day on light wire worm hooks with no problem.

Write the company. If you have any hooks left send them with your letter. I am sure you would get some replacements.

Good Idea, I havent thought about sending them a letter. Maybe i might just have to do that!

It is a tempering issue, I just went through the same thing only it wasn't 20 for 20, it was more like 20 in a batch of 500, I also went through the same thing with Mustad 32886 5/0 hooks and for those of you that use that hook you know how stout it is, they were really soft, like take it in your hand and make it into any shape you wanted soft, I poured some dummy jigs with them because the hook looks normal, so next time I am out with my brother in law who never seems to bring anything with him I will throw him one of these to use..... should be worth a laugh
