Aluma-Bass Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I've been thinking about getting one of those UV face-mask to protect my face/skin from sun as i dont like using sunscreen. Just curious to those who wear them are they comfortable for all day fishing? are they hot during hot days? do the breathe easy? how do you like them... Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I use mine regularly. Some don't cover their nose, I do. I can get my lens fogged up on occassion, but it takes a little adjustment. I am heat sensitive, with rosacea that the sun will cause flare-ups. ( I also hate getting carved on by the Dr). They are very breathable and they do help! Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 29, 2012 Super User Posted May 29, 2012 I treat my Buff like an Amex card. Don't leave home without it...at least on fishing days. Best 20 something bucks I ever spent on fishing related clothing. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 29, 2012 Super User Posted May 29, 2012 I'm sure you'll be pleased with it. Hit google up and you'll eventually find a video on the tons of different ways you can wear it. I believe Buff used to have it on their website. Quote
Addicted to Smallies Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 My Buff is the single best piece of fishing clothing I've purchased. I hate sunscreen, so it's perfect for me. At first I was worried that it would be too hot, but it's actually not hot at all, except when your nose is totally covered and your breath heats it up a bit... But if you wet it with fresh water, it's not a problem and the moisture cools the air and stops your glasses from fogging up. That and my Columbia sun protection long sleeve tee shirt and BPS lightweight zip off SPF pants, and I can fish for days without my fair Irish skin even turning pink. I'm a convert now. No more burns for me... And no more dermatologist visits, I hope. Funny, but I find that it feels COOLER when I wear the long sleeve tee and the buff than without it. Must be the evaporation effect being enhanced by the fabric. Quote
Addicted to Smallies Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Oh, I forgot to mention how handy my Buff is when the insects and "no see ums" are swarming. Works great to keep the bugs off of your face and neck, too! Quote

Works great to keep the bugs off of your face and neck, too! Ask anybody I've been on a boat with that lives down here. Once the big motor is fired up, my face gets covered. One trip I took to Istokpoga with Piscicidal from the forums made me realize how much it's worth it. The sun started to drop and the bugs came out in swarms! Once I picked a few mosquitoes out of my teeth, the Buff was on in full face cover mode. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted May 30, 2012 Super User Posted May 30, 2012 I'm like the others- I never leave without it now. Used to hate it, just because it felt confining to me, until it wears in a little bit. Now, it's mandatory. Quote
Zach Dunham Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I just got mine in the mail this week. I cannot wait to get out there and try it. I wore it while working in the yard a little bit this past weekend and it seemed to be quite comfortable. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted May 30, 2012 Super User Posted May 30, 2012 Just looked up this said Buff. I think I will be placing an order for one soon. Where is the LM Bass one though, did not see one? Quote

piscicidal Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Necessary equipment... One melanoma removal was enough for me. Be prepared for the good-natured jokes which follow.... "Hey you guys hold up a bank or something?" Quote

"Hey you guys hold up a bank or something?" I get the terrorist thing Mine is chemically treated for insects too, I have it with me in the car but don't wear it too often, it quite warm. I use it on chilly mornings pulled around my neck. Very good line on insect repellent clothing http://www.exofficio.com/search/bugsaway/mens Quote
grampa1114 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 See...now I love conversations like this...between my Buff mask and gloves and a good 100 spf sunscreen I finally got through a dermatology visit without being cut. It took five years but I finally made it. Use this stuff like your life depended on it.....it does. Grampa Quote

bayouXpress Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 i used one for the first time this weekend and could not believe the difference it made. We have some saltwater rodeos that last for several days. After being in the sun for 10+ hours a few days in a row it can get miserable. Especially down here where it gets 90+ degrees and 90+ humidity before summer even starts. That paired with a good sun hat and long sleeves, i never broke a sweat. Definitely will be a part of my fishing attire for years to come. The sun on your skin is what makes you hot. The Buff head wear is very breathable, thin, and you don't even feel it on you. ITs like your fishing in the shade. The only thing is the fogging of your glasses when its up on your nose. Quote
Addicted to Smallies Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Never thought about the gloves before... but seems like a good idea that I might try. Do any of you guys use them like Shaw describes in that video? Quote
