airborne_angler Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I buy alot of assorted soft plastics online. In on purchase I got a bunch of different odds and ends worms in unmarked Ziploc Bags. One of the bags has a few 3 inch segmented cigar shaped worms that have two words on it "JERSEY and RIGGS. Ive looked up those 2 names together and seems these are a finesse worm meant to be fished on light line, wacky rigged with nothing larger than a 1/0 hook,on spinning tackle in no more than 12 ft of water.Something like a Senko with the same thickness throughout, not tapered on one end and not blunt ,but rounded on the ends.b Ive watched a video and seen these catch pretty much nothing but Dink Bass, Crappie and Pickerel, but testimonials claim these have won $$$ in Tourneys. Anyone have their own testimony about these? Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I know all about those "Jersey Riggs" It was invented long before the senko -It was invented by a guy named jeff camerrino . One of the best guys I ever met. They were written up in Bass Masters back in the mid 90's.. Jeff was a tournament fisherman here in NJ. I met him and he used to hand me bags of them saying "ya gotta try this" after 2 years of him annoying the hell out of me I took nothing but them to a local pond--Whacky rigged one--Clear with gold glitter--said this looks stupid as hell.. first cast 3 lbr-- I said HMMMMMMMMM I ended up mastering that bait- .It was on its way -THEN came """"DA DA DA DAAAAAAA The senko" it was over for the Jersey rigg. jeff is now a Game Warden in PA 1 Quote
NJHOOTMAN Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 well i was seacrhing the web looking to order some Jersey Riggs when i saw this post...so i registered on the site just so i could reply....i was lucky enough to stumble on to the JR about 6 years ago and decided to order...about 30 mins after sending my e-mail Jeff Camrino himselff called me...i guess if you are an advanced worm fisherman this would not have a big deal...but at the time i did not have the confidence fishing this style...anyway he gave me a tutorial, i ordered and since then i have usually outsfished most of my partners.....i've graduated to fishing senko's wacky style but the Jr in certain situations seems to outfish all others. pros - any knucklehead can use it..the technic is so easy that i have had a number of first timers on my boat that have caught with it...to me it does not require the same finesse as t-rigging...you can catch many more bass then a senko before it is destroyed....dirt cheap...will build confidence cons - hard to fish in the wind with a 1/0 but you can use a heavier hook....can't throw into cover - still not convinced it will catch the biggest bass(3.5 is my biggest on it) but it will put up numbers... backwater4 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Great bait. Unfortunaley you can't find them anymore. I had some custom made and they worked ok, but not the originals. Try using the 3" senkos in their place. Also not the same, but ok. Quote
Megastink Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Those things are AWESOME! I grew up fishing them in Jersey. Awesome bait wacky, Texas or split shot rigged. 1 Quote
WookieeJedi Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I used them a few years back, then you couldn't find them anymore. After that, I just used regular Mann's and Creme worms and wacky rigged them. If they didn't sink well, I put a bb in each end of the worm. You can still fish like that if you run out of senkos. I like senkos better. They are heavier and fatter. Quote
MrTroutFisherman Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Have know Jeff for a number of years from NJ. Been using them for a long time. Sometimes Senkos are too big and the bass will not take them. Unlike one the replies, have my 2 largest bass on them 5 1/2 and 6.3 lbs. Smallies love em. Also have caught pike on them. Yes, you heard correctly, Northerns. They seem to like the bubblegum but have caught on other colors as well. Smoked is my favorite. Great for sight fishing. Cast one near a bass and let it sit, 2 twitches and you are on. Nothing better than casting near rocks and all of sudden you see your line moving lateral with a smallie ready to break the surface. Lost a number of 4 pounders, snapping the line. Landed tons for 3 + pounders. I fish 6 lb. I think you get more hits with the lighter line but yes, you have fear of snapping. Need to check line for nicks more often. Get spoiled with using braid where you can get away with it. I use a 1/0. Gives me a little more casting distance and will sink a tad faster. You can also put a split 12 inches up if windy to get it down. I usally start twitching earlier when using this method. Good luck. I still think Jeff sells them on his website. Just look for jerseyriggs.com (your welcome Jeff). Quote
