Super User Chris at Tech Posted December 25, 2009 Super User Posted December 25, 2009 I fish primarily 2 colors...pearl white and smokin' shad I rig them either weightless with a 4/0 EWG or with a very lightly weighted (1/32 or 1/16 oz) 4/0 EWG. Rigging it straight is very important to get the right action From there, I experiment with the retrive cadence and depth. Cast it out, let it sink and give it some light twitches to get it to move erratically. I'd recommend you drop it into the water right next to you and give it a few twitches. If you see it's favoring one side when retrieved, you can fix it immediately I find the hardest part about fluke fishing is waiting for it to sink deep enough, and waiting long enough between twitches Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted December 25, 2009 Super User Posted December 25, 2009 IMO, there isn't one, have yet to get a bite on a fluke type bait, I have given them many chances and have yet to produce a bite. I'll still continue to try them, I'd like to catch something on one, just hasn't happened yet. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 25, 2009 Super User Posted December 25, 2009 Recently on a drop shot rig. I'm fishing the 3" Slug-Go 18-24" off the bottom; using a 3/8 oz weight so I can jiggle the bait without moving the presentation. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I love flukes, was one of my most productive baits in 2009. How do you fish one? like any bait, there's no real answer for that. I use a 1/8oz keel weighted hook 99% of the time, helps the bait swim properly even on fast retrieves. Sometimes i'll just swim it back nice and slow, sometimes i'll burn it, sometimes i'll fish it like a jerk bait, sometimes i'll just let it sit on the bottom and give a slight twich now and again. Best bet is to experiment, and see what works best for you. I like Chris' part about putting it in shallow water. (I try to always do this with baits i'm not familiar with) Play around a lil bit, and see what the bait does under different conditions. It really helps your confidence, and helps to work the bait the best if you can visualize where it is, and exactly what it's doing. Match that with precision casting, and you'll be deadly! Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 25, 2009 Super User Posted December 25, 2009 and what is ur most purductive color and technique because i kant seem to catch nothing on them plz help and thank u and merry christmas and happy holidays I hope Long Mike doesn't read this. I fish flukes almost exclusively. The Arkansas Shiner produces best for me and I fish it weightless. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 25, 2009 Super User Posted December 25, 2009 Same here...I did try a new way just for the heck of it..I cut just a tad off the head of the fluke and tied a 3/8 oz scrounger head on, the fluke has to be really straight, but the action was pretty good, I'll keep trying.. IMO, there isn't one, have yet to get a bite on a fluke type bait, I have given them many chances and have yet to produce a bite. I'll still continue to try them, I'd like to catch something on one, just hasn't happened yet. Quote
s13john Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 you cant fish a fluke wrong in my opinion. i have seen them kill it when its all riped torn and to pieces. As for riging unweighted ewg hook is great when their shallow, weighed when deeper, carolina rig well really the ways are endless i've even wacky riged them once or twice. baby bass, white ice, pro blue green has worked for me really good pick up one of those zoom kits at dicks their like 10bux and has a nice selection of them and come with a box. happy fishin Quote
-nick- Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I like them on a keel weighted hook or a carolina rig. Quote
flyboy Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I started fishing flukes a few months ago. So far I have been amazed how well they work, though I have yet to catch a big fish on one. I fish tanic water in Florida lakes and have found green pumpkin with red flakes one of the better colors. I love the way you can fish them in extremely heavy cover and get strikes too; flukes are almost like top water lures in heavy cover. So far it seems that all you have to do is figure out if the fish want it slow or kinda fast like a jerk bait, in fact I think in the beginning I fished them way too fast and seemed to get plenty of strikes. I have a friend who is a much better fisherman than I, and he has not had success with flukes. He says he can't buy a fish on one which baffles me because this guy is really good. Quote
brushhoggin Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 ive caught LM and hybrids with these, rigging them almost everyway possible. like road warrior said drop shot is an excellent presentation, also just rigged on a jighead if youre fishing in the open, and especially weightless. they really have the action of a dying shad rigged weightless. ive even caught one pulling it kinda fast across the surface. awesome baits. i always go with the fluke jr. jamarkwe Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Recently on a drop shot rig. I'm fishingthe 3" Slug-Go 18-24" off the bottom; using a 3/8 oz weight so I can jiggle the bait without moving the presentation. This is my way as well Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted December 26, 2009 Super User Posted December 26, 2009 has anyone mated one with a swarming hornet? i like this bait in cool water. Quote
CookieMonst3r Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 I like to to use the Zoom Fluke in the Arkansas Shiner color. I fish it on a 1/4 oz. Chartreuse jighead with a jerk-jerk-pause retrieve and it works great. I usually fish it in medium depth water about 8-10 ft. deep. Quote
TJHfishin Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 thanks guys yea ive never been able to catch anything on them but reading some posts on here it made me wana try them again and after the posts i think i well diffinitly give them a whirl thank u for all the tips and ideas happy holidays and be safe Quote
Grant Williams Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 If u guys havent tried tha double fluke rig yall r missing out! u tie it with 2 swivels, one above the other with one of the leaders longer than the other, simple. We whacked'em at Guntersville this year with this tech! Aint nuthin like catchin 2 big g toads at tha same time. Used 1 zoom magnum fluke on the longer leader and a buzzsaw shad on the shorter, buzzsaw stays on top an seems ta get there attention a little better then useing just 2 regular mag flukes. Hope this tech. helps, its been awesome for me and tha guys i fish with! also the leader needs to be a larger #test than your main line cause if u get a double, and uWILL the fish pull against each other and will break! It a great way to catch schoolin fish, they r competin against each other for it an the bitez r explosive! 8-) Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 27, 2009 Super User Posted December 27, 2009 I know a couple of Striper guys that use them on Umbrella rigs... Quote
NewKidInTown Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 and what is ur most purductive color and technique because i kant seem to catch nothing on them plz help and thank u and merry christmas and happy holidays I am not a color oriented guy..so I use what I got cheapest which was Zoom Super Flukes in White or Pearl White, whatever it is. I drop shot them on Standout Hooks,,very good producer. I use them rigged weightless on a 4 or 5/0 Gamakatsu G-Lock over the tops of weeds Pre-spawn and post, sometimes works even during spawn. Sometimes nose hooked works well also. It's a good bait, always have em onboard. Quote
