Triple Surgeons Knot

Anyone use it to attach 2 lines,like maybe braid and Fluoro or Mono and Fluoro? How does this knot stand up against a Uni to Uni? Seems easier to tie the triple surgeons knot,but how strong is it?

Albright, or uni to uni are the two best knots when tying a leader material.

I am a terrible knot tier, that said my basic knots hold all fish I catch from freshwater to offshore ocean, knot failure is rare (rare doesn't mean it never happens). I do not tie line to leader unless I target fish that will attack a swivel as readily as the lure, case in point spanish mackerel. These are my knots: joining mono to mono, back to back ordinary clinch knots 6 wraps. Leader to swivel: ordinary clinch, then to lure a loopknot with 2 wraps. Joining braid to braid: back to back improved clinch knots (if targeting fish over 50# an extra wrap on each side). Braid to swivel: improved clinch, an extra wrap when targeting bigger fish. When I do tie line to leader it's the alberto. Leader to a bait hook, again the ordinary clinch doesn't fail for me, that's my knot arsenal.

Any knot must be tied correctly, not unusual for me to tie 2-3 times until I'm satisfied. I moisten the thicker monos. I do not use f/c lines and seldom use f/c leaders, in my experience I do not catch any more fish and the knots are not nearly as good.

I prefer the surgeons knot to all others for attaching leaders. But I have not found it held using braid main line.

I use it ocassionally when in a hurry because it is fast to tie and will hold fine. I tie a double surgons and see no difference or decrease in reliability. The problem with the knot is it is to bulky. An Albright or uni comes through the guides much better.

I don't care for the Uni/Uni connection, only because of the bulk of the knot. It "clicks" when flowing through the rod guides on the cast. I've been using the Alberto (double Albright) a lot in the past few years and have become pretty good at whipping it up in a hurry. It has never failed me and is a much slimmer knot. JMO.

Triple Surgeon's not bad in mono and coploy's, but it is not a good knot to use in braid. The testing I've done with a couple different brands has shown that knot to be the weakest link and break in braid, mainly because the braid cuts into itself too easily. That said, given a high enough breaking strength of braid used to counter the weaker knot, the connection is surprisingly strong.

Forget the rest of them unless you're going to be using an inline splice with hollow braid.

Surgeons knots sit on top of the two lines instead of running with the lines like the above knots. If you like having knots hang, have at the Surgeons. If you want to use a quality knot, learn how to tie the Albright(s). Superior to the uni-uni splice IMO because of the way it wraps up into a smaller package.

I use the triple surgeon's for braid to flouro connections and I don't find it to be bulky at all. The tests I did showed it holding up better than a uni-uni. I tried the alberto but need to practice more with it. It didn't hold for at all when I tested it. When I tested the surgeon's my palomar broke at the hook before the surgeon's did.
