hatrix Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 So I was fishing a grass minnow today and I got a bite set the hook. I get the fish back to the boat and it turns sideways and my minnow is stick out of it's gills. I though wow thats kind of weird he must of really ate it. I go to un hook it and what happened was my line went under its gill and the grass minnow go stuck up underneath. I was kind of cool since it was at the end of a long cast also. So i reeled him all that way while never hooked. Quote
Shad_Master Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 When Sweet Beavers first came out, I ordered an assortment and took 'em to my local "test pond" just to check them out. On the first cast, I felt a tug, swung and the line went sideways. I got the fish turned and he started running at me. Swung him up over the grass on the edge of the bank where I was fishing and he fell off. Got him back in the water and when to reset the hook point and it was still buried in the bait . A good endorsement for beavers. Quote
logan9209 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The one and only crankbait I've been able to use on my lake (supposed to run up to 3ft deep but even with an 8lb line it hardly goes below surface) caught a bass. But the bass broke the crank right off my line. *wait for it*. So this other guy comes up and starts fishing next to me. Don't know his name but I call him magic cuz he's caught bass doing some off the wall stuff. Anyways, he throws out a 10" worm and next thing I know, he's reeling in the very bass that stole my crank. Once in a life time shot right? *wait for it* Turns out that the worm had some how wrapped around the fin on the belly (dorsal?). The bass was never hooked by the worm. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 5, 2012 I caught one flipping a tube once that when I set the hook the bend of the hook wedged behind it's tooth pad on it's bottom lip and the hook eye was stuck against the roof of it's mouth, basically had it's mouth propped open with the hook and it was wedged in there so hard that I fought it to the boat and even swung it in without it ever actually being hooked. Super User clayton86 Posted June 7, 2012 Super User Posted June 7, 2012 it happens to me alot usually with dinks thinking there B.A they grab a paddle tail I set the hook they come flying at me and the lure falls short hook un touched. Iv done it with almost every soft plastic some times I land them some times I don't but they usually get out of the water and either flop back in or I pounce on them like a cat going after a laser pointer lol. Busy Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Only time I managed to catch a fish without hooking it we were fishing for bluegill to use as catfish bait with a cane pole. Bluegill took the worm and as I went to yank him out of the water a bass hit the bluegill and came out of the water with him too! Two fish with one stone? lol, interesting stories on here! Also caught a bass one time on new shiny circle hook after I accidentally pitched of my hot dog (again catfishing). Was reeling the bare hook back in and a bass hit it. Maybe we spend too much on tackle!! Quote
hatrix Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 I think it was last year but I also caught a fish on a snap swivel. I forget what bait I was using but somehow the swivel opened up on the strike or something. I got it to the boat and went to unhook it but it was not hooked. The swivel never punctured it and it was just the pressure I kept on the line that got it in. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 8, 2012 Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2012 I forgot about this one from earlier this year. Not a great picture but this one did basically the same thing as the fish I mentioned earlier except it was a popper. The back hook was over it's top lip but hadn't penetrated it's mouth at all and the front hook was swinging freely, the popper was just wedged in it's mouth and I fought it to the boat like that.
