5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Caught this bass today, and the eyes seem to "bulge" out a lot more than the other much smaller bass. Is this normal with a big bass, or something wrong with her eyes? Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 It's normal for older bass. You ever see the ones at bps those things look like their eyes would pop out if you thumped em on head Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Lol. How old do you think she is at 12.8lbs? About 26.5 inches long. Quote
MaineBassFishin Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 If you weighed that at 12 lbs you may want to check your scale.. Nice fish though Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Sorry, 6.8 lbs and the length I am not sure of. Wanted to know about how old she is? Typed those numbers for something else before I posted. Quote
MaineBassFishin Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Oh ok that's more like it haha, thats a real nice looking fish though 6.8 around here is huge Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Caught her here in central nc in a pond. My friend said 6 or 7 years old because 1 year old per pound. Not sure if that's accurate. :-/ Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Probably impossible to tell cause they grow different rates in different places but at 26.5 " I would guess 8-10 years Quote
james 14 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Gotta be bigger than 6.8 at 26.5". That is unless she was super skinny. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 I'm certain of the 6.8lbs. But didn't measure it. See my earlier post it was a typo. :-). Big eyes though lol Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 She had a big belly!!!!!!!!!! Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 You can pull a scale and count rings to get an idea. I caught a 12 this year that seemed to be 5-7 years old, but this is from a freak pond. I pulled a scale from a 7 that looked to be over ten years. Its really dependant. But with those big ol eyes I would guess shes alot older than 6 or 7 NGaHB Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 I read some about and need to read up on more on the scale technique. That does seem to be the most accurate. Next time I catch a big one I need to do that. Thanks! Joe Quote
