Lures That You Have To Have?

Today I was at my local tackle shop looking to pick up some lures and I found my self staring at the shelves clueless to what to get. There are so many options, so what are the top lures that I should pick up for bass. After some time, I just decided to pick up a rat-l-trap and some senkos. What else are the essentials along with what weight I should get. My rod calls for 1/4oz to 5/8oz.

Can't go wrong with 3/8oz jigs in black / blue, green or brown combos.

Texas rigged 6-7 inch plastic worms with 1/4 to 3/8oz bullet weights. Red shad, grape, junebug, watermelon are a few good colors to start with.

I'd just pick something out from a brand you've heard of and match it to the depth you want to fish. After you have some experience under your belt with these lures you'll probably develop your own preferences for brands, styles, colors, etc.

I think for this rod/reel setup I'm going to stick with crankbaits and topwaters. I have another set up I was planning on using soft plastics for.

You did great getting senkos and rattle traps. Those are 2 lures i have tied on alot of the time. I have a 6'6" mh spinning rod i use strictly for senkos, mainly skipping them under docks/boathouses. Rattle traps are another lure i fish on every trip. I would grab a couple spinnerbaits in 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz to start with. Use the lighter weight for shallower water. I would recommend a standard white or chartreuse/ white mix. If you cant catch fish with either of those 3 lures then there are no fish where your fishing.

When I first stocked my wifes tacklebox I put in: 3/8 white spinnerbait (willow/colorado), Original shap rap, rattle trap (med size), floating rapala (any size, but I think #5!), 4in and 6in worms. (Purple, black/blue, white), Buzzbait. I consider those the Baisc need to have lures. Good luck!

5. floating crankbait like a mann's baby 1 or baby 1 minus, a bomber model a. These can be worked top water very slowly over submerged weeds too.

JIgs. Pick three colors in three sizes, and trailers to match and fish them hard. Learn to fish a jig and you're far better off than a lot of your competition.

I would focus on perfecting what you have on that list for now and then expand when you get a plastics setup...

Try different worm and weight combinations. Or even a jika rig with a 1/4 oz swivel. The action on a big worm with lighter weight looks awesome and has produced fish for me.

Muddy lakes and a clear reservoir mainly.

Picked up a gold/black red eye shad today, watermelon/brown jig, a white/bleeding red spinner (1/2oz), a smaller white spinner (1/4oz), white/blue crankbait, and a black jitterbug today.

Not so much weeds, more rocks then anything and some timber. Im fishing off the shore line usually in the open or in a channel. Unsure of the depth but I would say 10ft max.

Well the lakes I fish are more weeds than anything, so I'm not real sure. I've done well on spinnerbaits and jigs in timber and rocks, but who knows. Add in some soft plastics and squarebills you should be set imo. Particularly since they seem to be shallow lakes. Pretty much anything you can bring through and bang off the cover while working the structure should be great. I happen to enjoy bringing spinnerbaits and jigs through limbs and off rocks, but they may not be the best option, crankbaits being a close second for me. Hopefully others can join in with more experience in those type lakes.

I used my jig today and liked it a lot, didn't have a trailer on it tho. I gave my girlfriend a crankbait today and told her to stay away from the rock pile, fist cast she got it stuck. Then I decided to try my rat-l-trap in what I thought was a open area free of snags, but that got stuck too.

I plan to pick up a few more jigs with different colors and weights, along with another rat-l-trap and a squarebill.

Jigs in natural colors and black and blue, spinnerbaits, shallow and deep diving cranks, rat l traps, ribbon tail worms, creatures. One of my personal favorites and its in my panic box is a half ounce Rooster Tail in line spinner, or whatever brand you prefer. Everything that swims and has a mouth will bite big in lines.
