No, it should not get hot cause it bounce of the heat. It is just like fishing your usual gold shimano Calcutta, the reflective surface does not reflects the sun light directly back to your eyes. If that is your concern.

the reel does get a little hotter if you leave it out in the sun...however on cold days, the finish on that reel is cold and might be uncomfortable to use. But all in all one of the best reels out there.

My boat is called the "Rainmaker" a shiny finish on a reel would not be a problem for me.
