jeremysayshi Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 True story, the craziest thing just happened to me today. I was fishing with a plastic frog in some lily pads and a freakin monster bullfrog gobbled it up. I swear this really happened. Do bullfrogs eat small frogs?? Quote
plumworm Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I was fishing pool "10" on the Mississippi River a couple of years ago with a "salad spoon" Had a blow up and set the hook. A 3.8 lb. bull frog weighed on a digital scale. Frog legs are good eating.I have a photo of the frog but I have to find it. They probably eat 1 lb. bass. Quote
GoTakeANap Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 wow man that is crazy. i bet it was awesome to see that happen thou. Quote
POPRG Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 if bullfrogs were as big as german shepards, humans would be endangered! they will attack anything which resembles a worthy meal! i caught one so big in my early teen years on a snag proof frog that barely fit inside a 5 gallon bucket..fished a lily pad cove that i would run down to as soon as the car pulled into the cabins, cast the frog out with high hopes of a huge bass from reading the old snag proof mail order ads in the back of field & stream magazine. was so proud that i caught it,grabbed a bucket off the dock at the vacation house and showed it to my dad and neighbors and they were stunned at the size of it .. 1 Quote

jeremysayshi Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Wow, I had no idea. I've been fishing since I was a wee little lad and never had that happen. I'm surprised it's so common. Quote
jeremysayshi Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Ive caught more frogs with weedless frogs than fish. Nice. I tried to get him all the way in cause I wanted to take a pic, but alas he let go right at the bank. I thought it was a fish at first, sure fought like one but as he came closer my mouth dropped. That sucker was huge. After letting go he came up to the bank a few feet down and sat there as to mock me. Actually I saw him go after it again but he didn't grab it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 25, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 25, 2012 I've had it happen several times. I try to pull the bait away from them when that happens but a lot of times they won't let go. I used to fish for frogs all the time when I was a kid in the little ponds that didn't have any fish. BigBassBarry Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 my fatherinlaw caught one with a spinnerbait in a pond while I was fishing with him. Quote
hatrix Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I caught a few when I was a kid on floating broke backs. They are kind of a nuisance when they won't leave you bait alone. They get there feet caught in the trebels and it's a pita. Snapping turtles can be the same way and it's tuffto get hooks out of them. Quote
