Bigbassboy123 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Ok guys I just tried out my Abu Garcia revo sx and I like it but theres one problem I having. When I cast, probaly every 4 or so casts I will cast and about 20 feet out in the air, it will just stop like its catching on something. I don't know if it's the line I'm using or if there is knots in my line or something. It be great if someone could maybe give me a idea of what it is. Thanks, -jeremo Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted May 25, 2012 Super User Posted May 25, 2012 What kind of line are you using? Quote
POPRG Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 If its knots in the line, just pull out most of the line off the spool and see if its knotted/overlapped. is the spool "over-running" on the cast causing a backlash? Thumb-bar locking up? [does it click back to the retrieve position after the line stopping?] Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 25, 2012 Super User Posted May 25, 2012 Is it braided line? this is my thoughts as well iv noticed with braid at times this will happen from the line digging from the previous cast if you got hung up or anything. Quote
Bigbassboy123 Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Yes it's pro braid 15 lb. line and I have pulled every inch of line off of that spool at least 2 or 3 times and it still does it. What line would y'all recommend? Quote
KSRonH Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 15# braid will dig into itself on a baitcaster. I would recommend using at least 30# braid with 50#, (12# mono equivilent), being a better choice. Save your 15# for use on a spinning reel and spool up your baitcaster with a thicker diameter braid. Hope this helps. Quote
auburn5 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Try loosening the brakes a little that might be making it hard to cast long distances. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted May 25, 2012 Super User Posted May 25, 2012 The point of braied is the strength and abrasion resistance. Even though you may use 12# mono or fluoro, that doesnt mean use a 12# braid. Remember, 30# braid is usually a 6# diameter. You will want to use a braid that is the Diameter rating as wwhat you would use for mono/fluoro. IE: The best all around dia. for a baitcaster would be about a 12#, so that would equate to a 50# in Power Pro, or 65# for Spiderwire Stealth braid. That very light 15# strength braid is for spinning rigs that would use a 2-6# mono/fluoro. I hope this helps you to understand a little better the point of braid. 1 Quote
bwell Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 15# is way to small for braided line. I would recommend like others have said going to 50#. Quote
