I have seen these are very popular and wanted to give them a try as I continue to try and learn new techniques. I am aware of the slow methodical retrieve technique, any other pointers or advice?

Thanks

When will Senkos become a thing of the past?

Senkos!!!! Stick baits!!!! Love 'em.

Hallman, there is nothing more exciting (other than for a topwater blow up) than feeling the tap-tap and watching your line move to the right or left when fishing Senkos or stick baits.

You can fish these baits Texas rigged, rigged backwards, wacky, shaky head, drop shot, Carolina rig, Mojo, split shot, with a weight, weightless, swimming, on a baitcaster or a spinning rig and anywhere you want. Anything goes with a Senko.

Yesterday, at my double secret pond, I threw out a 5-inch Junebug Senko and got it hung up on some wood. As I snapped the line trying to get it loose, I noticed the bait was still stuck and was not moving but my line was about 20-feet from where it got hung up.

So what did I do? I SET THE HOOK!

The big lady must have taken the Senko off the wood as I was trying to dislodge it and swam away with it. She went over 5 pounds and put up a great fight.

So throw those Senkos. Read the Senko thread on this Forum and suscribe to the Gary Yamamoto Enzine email and add Gary Yamamoto to your Facebook page.

The more you fish Senkos the more you will understand that they are great all year and in all conditions.

A suggestion: Go wacky young man, go wacky!!!!

Never. Like the Jitterbug, they will be with us for centuries.

When you quit winning tournaments on them... :)

Using senko's will last forever its one more pattern and presentation in our vast arsenal.

I use the senko & BPS stick o worms from shore on a 1/8oz brass weight with a brass ball knocker and a weedless hook, with a carolina keeper with a 24'' leader.

First cast i let it fall freely or i can twitch it all the way down.

If i get a strike and miss it on my second cast a shot of scent means a hook up on the second cast.

The BPS stick o worms seem to last longer over the senko's and the stick o 's seem just as productive too..

great post, most days i get to fish it is just for a hour or 2 so senko's it is.Just the other night I had a hit that turned out to be a snag or so I thought, fishing with ul gear and 4lb line it didnt take much to snap the line.Being short on time and not producing with the wally world red/black combo I tied on a old pumkinseed and a owner hook vs the red gama's and bam a nice 3 pounder hit..............care to guess what was in his mouth, yup my red and black senko along with the pumkinseed i reeled him in on.

I've had guys with massive tackle boxes get ticked at the fish i've cought on these things,I converted a friend who is from another country where live bait fishing is the norm when I outfished his minows with senko's

I've figured out how to fish them top water, with bobbers,on the bottom and wacky rigged to name a few,the combinations are endless.

P.S.I just joined this forum to try and get away from fishing just senko's because my tackle box hasnt moved in years

Hahaha.

There was only 3 minutes left before I had to make the short run back to the boat ramp for weigh-in or face disqualification for being late. I had hundreds and hundreds, if not a thousand, dollars in tackle neatly stowed on the boat. I had dozens of Lucky Crafts, War Eagles, MegaBass, Culprits, Anacondas, Dirty jigs and Lake Fork swimbaits, but there I was, flashlite stuck between my teeth, desperately crawling around the bottom of the boat on my hands and knees trying to find a salvagable Senko.

I had finally found the fish and was in panic mode to cull my last dink. Six fully rigged rods with various baits lay on the deck, ready to do their job, begging to be given a chance. I just couldn't bring myself to use anything other than a Senko. "Come on, hurry up and find one" I kept yelling to myself. Time was running out but I didn't care. My mind was made up that I would waste the remainder of the tournament looking for a torn up Senko instead of throwing something else. For a moment, I understood just how an addict felt in search of their next fix. I needed a Senko and I needed one bad!

My alarm sounded and it was time to head to the ramp. I had just spent 3 minutes of prime fishing by searching for the least torn up shredded Senko that I could find to no avail. I missed the money by THREE louzy ounces.

I tried Senkos for the first time the other day and wasnt very impressed...

The plastic these baits are made of is of poor quality. They tear, shred, rip, slip, and just plain fall off. I even glued one to my hook with fishing glue....that worked for about two casts even after allowing for dry time.

I did catch fish but no more or any bigger than with my usual plastics. They are way overpriced (IMO) for how long they last.

The best thing about Senko's is the ability to lure other anglers to believe in them.

If I were still fishing tournaments, I would always have a supply of them, all chewed up, to throw down on the floor of the boat at the end of the day. As others walked by my boat in the parking lot, there wouldn't be any need to lie to them about what I caught my fish on. They'd simply see those things and never ask.

Then I could continue to use more productive lures without them catching on!
