GoTakeANap Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Hello all. I decided to walk down to my pond today and try out a jig/bushhog combo I made up. Never caught a fish with a jig in the 10 years ive been fishing. ( Also didnt know you were suppose to use a tralior with it) LOL. Thats probably why! Well after a few cast I caught a 3lb bass. Was a awesome feeling. It built my confidence up some using a jig. Here is a pic of the jig and fish! wooooooooooo hooooooooooooo Quote
GoTakeANap Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Here is the fish. Still trying to figure out this pic posting. Confusing me. Quote

shimmy Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Great job! What a great feeling and it looks like this is the beginning of you getting the net over and over again. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Congrats man....it's always great when you do well with something new. Hope it's the first of many with a jig!! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 24, 2012 Global Moderator Posted May 24, 2012 Good job on the first jig bass! My favorite bait to fish without a doubt. A jig and full sized brushhog can be a really good big fish bait. Craw style baits like Rage craws or Havoc Rocket craws make good trailers and so do twin tail grubs. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted May 24, 2012 Super User Posted May 24, 2012 CONGRATS !!! Really nice job, it's only the first of many, the jig is one of my favorite baits to fish as well !!! Thanx for the pics and the story !!! Quote

stkbassn Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Nice work....it's fun catching em' on jigs for sure! I love it myself. Congrats. I wish I had a pond like that close by! Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 25, 2012 Super User Posted May 25, 2012 Outstanding, Go. I caught three big ladies today at my double secret pond on a jig and pig and lost one of my jigs when I did not tie a Palomar knot and the knot failed when I was fighting another big one. You can drag the jig or hop it along like a moving crawfish. Don't forget to dye the claws in chartruse JJs Magic or Spike-It. Use the trailer of your choice. I like the Rage Tail craws as they claws move fast. Quote

Yea its nice living on a pond. I walk about 100 yards and im there. The pond is close to 10 acres. If you are ever around SC one day I would gladly take you fishing on it! Its also nice to see comments from people who love fishing just as much as I do. I went out in my pond boat 30 mins before dark today. Caught 3 bass in a matter of 10 mins. Biggest was 1 1/2 pounds. I really like this jig fishing. Hope to catch many more this way. About to spend some money and buy some nice jigs... Any brand of jig out there that stands out more than others? Quote
unionman Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I would look into assembling your own. You just need skirts and jigs. The combinations are endless. You can even add lips for "chatterbaits". All for less than your basic, "fully asdembled" jig Quote
