What Makes Some Ponds So Dificult To Fish?

There was one pond (now drained) that was full of moss every summer. If your lure wasn't weedless, you could forget it. I saw MONSTER bass bedding so I know they were in there but I could never catch a big one and most of the time none at all. Now I'm fishing a different pond and everywhere you think the bass should be (points, lay-downs, or any type of structure) I never get a bite. I've thrown everything except the kitchen sink at those fish and I might catch one fish (2lb'er) on a trip, if any at all. This is an old pond with monster bass in it as well. Is it the fish or the fisherman?

Its could be a little bit of both, but i usually blame it on the lake being over pressured

How many other folks fish this place, alot of the time fish in ponds see lures ALOT more than people think. Try out something new, giant baits of whatever sort or tiny baits. Go at night and target them that way, however you think they havent seen yet

There are many reasons bass don't bite, talking about ponds, i'll choose overpressure or overfeeding; Try throwing big senkos, moving really slow, if you can't get a bite, go slower.

it could be some of both. try throwing them something you havent thrown before. or something you think they havent seen much of before. or you could try being more stealth and backing away from the bank some until you hook a fish...

sometimes when artificials just wont seem to draw a bite, i will not hesitate to break out some night crawlers and throw them, sometimes right in the basses face. i've only seen one bass in my life that just refused to eat a fat live night crawler and the one time it was semi-interested a bigger bass came in and took the bait instead...

also, it would help to find out what theyre feeding on at the time. try catching a small bluegill about 4-5 inches and throwing it out on a bigger hook, when that thing starts yanking on your line and is swimming funny, the big bass will come in and most likely eat it...

a lot of people think ponds are easy, but they can be real tough at times too...

Try using live bait.

I would try and throw smaller baits like grubs or bettle spins, something different...you have to get a fish by "inticing them."

i fish a shallow pond that is full of weeds and i know there are huge bass in there, only times i catch them is by throwing a huge lure or a big topwater frog or mouse. .

It could just be off days for fishing or bad luck. As we all know some days are just skunks for the most part and bites are few and far between and you can never hone in on a pattern cause its so random. A lot of times on a pond I can tell how good a day it is by the action on the surface. If you see tons of blow ups or all those little ripples next to the bank where they are pushing the fry then fish are fairly active and you should be able to catch a few. People say pond fishing is easier but that all depends on the pond. If you can come to my house and slay them at my pond and even more do it on a off day then you can flat out catch them any where.

Fish in ponds are very sensitive to their surroundings. If you're dressed in bright clothing or make a lot of noise you can shut them off pretty easily. Lots of pressure on a pond can make it very difficult also, sometimes even moderate pressure can do it. Most of the ponds I fish have certian baits that just catch them so you may have to fish lots of different baits until you find "the" bait in that pond.
