Kowen117 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 On any given day on the water how many do you generally have in the boat? I currently carry 7 combos 2 spinning 5 casting but it always seems like I am short a rod or two. Just wondering how many rods you have compared to how many you actually use on any given day? Quote
aumdb487 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 When fishing from the back of a boat I carry 5, usually 3 casting and 2 spinning, sometime 4 and 1 depending on what kind of pattern the boater is on. In my own boat I have all my rods in the locker but I still only pull out 5 at a time (or less), keeps me in the same frame of mind when tournament fishing from the back of a boat. Quote
buzzfrog Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 i am on the shore, so about 4, then if my bro goes, he has to extra hand so about 6, we swap back and forth Quote
Nice_Bass Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 15. Typically only use three...A bad day is when i have 6 or 7 rods on deck. Quote
piscicidal Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I usually bring 10 if by myself and 4 or 5 if fishing with someone else. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted May 22, 2012 Super User Posted May 22, 2012 I only need 4. 1) Shimano Curado 50E, 12# Yozuri for open area plastics. 2) Shimano Curado E7, 65# Spiderwire, heavy cover plastics. 3) Shimano Citica G6, 17# Mono, Spook. 4) Revo SX, 65# Spiderwire, jiggin. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 It really depends on the body of water. Three to seven depending on on that and the species. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 22, 2012 Super User Posted May 22, 2012 When by myself 18 with 10 out and 8 on standby. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 9 baitcasters and 2 spinning on the boat. 1 baitcaster and 1 spinner on the kayak Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 On shore.. four. But I can only carry three on my float tube, and then I usually carry my only baitcaster, and two spinning. Quote
JaxBasser Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I fish from the shore so I usually only carry 2 or 3. One baitcaster for soft plastics/jigs, one for cranks, and a spinning setup for light stuff. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted May 23, 2012 Super User Posted May 23, 2012 one jig one jerkbait one crank bait one swimbait two senko I'm finding myself needing another crankbait rod though. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 23, 2012 Super User Posted May 23, 2012 Right now I have 3 spinning rods: one 7' ML/F for drop shotting, one 6'8" M/XF for flick shake/finesse jigs/shaky heads, and a 6'6" M/F for skipping docks/ soft jerkbaits. Super User Hooligan Posted May 23, 2012 Super User Posted May 23, 2012 Typically I'll have around 35 in the boat for a Four Day, that's not inclusive of practice. Fun fishing, I'll generally have between seven and 12. During crank season, that may increase by four or so. I usually have at least triplicate of my crank rods with rattling, non-rattling, and off-set color baits. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 23, 2012 Super User Posted May 23, 2012 I have a small boat, so I usually fish alone. In the middle of the summer is when I carry the most rods because the greatest variety of techniques work. I carry five casting and two spinning. 1. 200E5 Curado spooled with 10 pound Stren. 7' BPS M Crankin' Stick (cranks, light topwater, light spinnerbait) 2. BPS 5.2:1 PQ and a 7' MH Crankin' Stick, 12 pound stren (Heavier spinnerbait, heavier topwater) 3. BPS 6.4:1 PQ and a 7' MH BPS Tourney Special , 17 Pound stren (jigs, creaturebaits, heavy spinnerbaits, heavy topwaters, heavy senko or worm) 4. Daiwa Megaforce, 7' KVD Crank Rod, 12 Pound Stren (buzzbaits, rage shads/toads) 5. BPS 6.4:1 PQ, 7' H PQ Rod, 50 pound power pro (frogs, heavy cover, punching) 6. Pflueger President Spinning Reel, 7' MH Quantum Alliance Spinning Rod, 8 pound stren (senkos, flukes, smaller worms and plastics) 7. Pflueger President Spinning Reel, 7' M Browning Silaflex Rod, 6 pound stren (light balsa cranks like #5 shad raps and tail dancers, zara puppies) Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 23, 2012 Super User Posted May 23, 2012 Shore fishing, 1 rod Jettie fishing, usually 2 sometimes 3 Boat offshore, 3. 1 conventional, 1 boat spinning and 1 hvy inshore spinning. Rods are never on the deck, must be in a rod holder when not in use, need room to move without tripping over anything. Quote
tholmes Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I fish from the shore so I usually only carry 2 or 3. One baitcaster for soft plastics/jigs, one for cranks, and a spinning setup for light stuff. Exactly what I carry. Tom Quote
jerzeeD Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Usually 4-5. If we are on a body of water that holds Muskie or Pike... A 6th rod may creep in. ;-) Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 24, 2012 Super User Posted May 24, 2012 I'm at my happy place playing Football with the fishies. so normally I only take 2 rods. sometimes they are both jig rods. Makes me wonder why I have the arsenal of rods that I have. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I fish as a non boater so I am limited. Depending on the time of year, lake, game plan etc... somewhere between 5 and 7. Quote
tbirds00 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I carry anywhere from 3-5 rods and will hopefully add a 6th soon Quote
Diggy Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Ive carried up to 6 but Im trying to cut it to 1 since Im walking around my complex looking crazy. 2 is my new low for now Quote
james 14 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 This time last year I started fishing tournaments seriously and had 3 baitcast combos. Now I have 9 and will probably get a 10th for Father's Day since I'm "in need" of a spinning outfit for the rare occassion I do any finesse fishing. Now that I have this many rods I don't know what I'd do without them. I've got something different on each one and enjoy the freedom of being able to jump from bait to bait while trying to establish a pattern. All but one is spooled with braid and I'll use a flouro leader in clear water or when throwing a slower bait like a worm or jig. The other has mono for topwater baits. This gives me the ability to use each rod for whatever I want...generally speaking anyways. I do have a dedicated flipping stick and another that has a frog tied on 99% of the time. The others are 2 each, 7.5', 7' and 6.5' not counting the topwater rod. Quote
