Super User LgMouthGambler Posted May 22, 2012 Super User Posted May 22, 2012 I carry a sharp pair of dykes with me at all times. If the hook is deep (gut) I just cut the hook where its easily reached and slide it out. Never had a problem doing this, and it save a lot of time. I would rather save the fish than my 20C hook. 1 Quote

No part of the hook is left in the fish. I cut the hook, whether through the mouth, or access through the gills, and then I can slide the hook out without the barb being an issue. Quote

Regardless, you could be saving your hook too, and i still would recommend that everyone learn the through the gills method. Quote
