flipin4bass Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Keep that MSO (Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin) that came with your kayak, you might need it to register your kayak if you live in one these states: STATES WITH CANOE & KAYAK REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS Alaska Requires registration of all paddle craft Arizona Registration requirements repealed in 2000 due to lack of funding, high cost of administration, and ineffective ability to return services to the paddle sports community at a level corresponding to the fees. Illinois Requires registration of all paddle craft Ohio Requires registration of all paddle craft. Oklahoma Requires registration of all paddle craft Iowa Requires registration of all paddle craft Minnesota Requires registration of all paddle craft Pennsylvania Requires registration of all paddle craft using Fish & Boat Commission access points. STATES PROPOSING NEW REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS Alaska Connecticut Maine Montana Oregon Washington Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 20, 2012 Super User Posted May 20, 2012 In Iowa canoes and kayaks <13' with no motors or sails need no registration. oe Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 20, 2012 Super User Posted May 20, 2012 I hope no MASS politician sees this thread. Right now registration is not required for paddle craft. I hate to bring it up but of the states that do require registration for paddle craft, do all sailboats also have to be registered? What's next? Waders and innertubes? Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 20, 2012 Super User Posted May 20, 2012 New York requires registration if a motor of any kind is used. Quote
Cousin Vinny Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Connecticut would do anything for more tax dollars. Our Governor is a tax loving big spender with my money. Oh, maybe thats for a different forum...... Did i mention that Connecticut would do anything for more tax dollars?? Quote
WookieeJedi Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 What's next? Waders and innertubes? Yes, then it will be lifejackets and beer coozies. Quote
RyneB Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 me an my wife bought kayaks last year. We were out on a small public lake near my house. We threw all of our stuff away because i had no idea i needed to have them registered. A conservation officer met us at the ramp and jumped my arse because i had no registration. I told him i had no idea i needed a registration and he became ignorant and telling me to quit playing stupid and trying to insult his intelligence. He gave us each a ticket for no registration, luckily my wifes father is a man who knows "people" and we had the tickets evoked. Its only $13 i think for the registration, but i have no sales receipt or the other stuff i need. I have no problem paying, but the state just wants you to prove you paid taxes on it. Personally, i think its a joke. Quote
SouthrnMisnomer Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 sounds like some states are going a little far.... kind of sad Quote
RyneB Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 illinois. we are the only state that does not allow some sort of concealed carry, so it was no shock they would be so anal about me not having a kayak registration. Quote
