CTBassin860 Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Just setup for the weekend.T-rig and jerkbait rods are going to be all I take with me this weekend. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 8, 2017 Super User Posted April 8, 2017 If I don't work tomorrow I might just see what Ponkapog has to offer. It's shallow, 6-7' max, so it should warm up quickly.  As of now I'm off Tues-Fri so I'm gonna marathon fish as long as I can.  'Course my motorcycle misses me badly too.  Maybe some bank fishing somewhere.  I can get my waders in the saddle bags.... Hmmmm. 1 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Went out for a couple hours today.Very windy and very cold.No bites Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 9, 2017 Super User Posted April 9, 2017 Picked up an overnight detail so fishing this weekend is a maybe.  One thing I noticed while staring at my phone, looking for 'magic', was Google Map's picture of the Quabbin.  It looks like it's at its low point last year which should help mapping out underwater topography.  Remember, opening day is only a week, or so, away. Super User MassYak85 Posted April 9, 2017 Super User Posted April 9, 2017 Tight lines everybody, spring is finally here.  Went out for a couple hours from shore with a friend. Got two pretty good size pickerel who were being very aggressive. I was using a soft jerkbait worked pretty quick up near the surface and they hammered it. Both were near downed trees. Also got a much more subtle bite on a shakeyhead but missed it on the hookset, not sure what that was. I'll definitely try more from shore this week but it's going to kill me not to be out there with this weather. Enjoy it guys. Quote
BR1AN Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Went yesterday for a bit at the end of the day. Dragged a small swimbait on the bottom and texas rigged a 7" power worm. Definitely going tomorrow for awhile. Probably add a crankbait & jerkbait. Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Fished a lot this weekend!  Fished 4 ponds Saturday! 3 ponds Sunday! Saturdsy got to a honey hole of mine, caught my PB last year outa here. Wind was brutal! No fish! Decided to head to another spot I've been fishing! Checked out a new way in! Paddle across a pond to a canal to get into this pond! Way easier then dragging the yak through bogs!  This pond I paddle through was a new spot! Picked off a handful of fish 2lbser here! Working my way to the other spot! Got to the other spot! Bite wasn't good! Had some hits but square bill cranks managed 2bass 1 on a jig the other on a squarebill!  Fished the other pond a little bit more picked off 2 more bass!  Decided  check a honey hole I got down the street! There was a culvert I always check out before I got to the pond! Tons of yellows up there spawning! Like hundreds! Saw a chunky bass sitting there to! Fished a small tsunami jerk minnow! Danced it around 10 minutes later it smoked it!  Head to the pond! No fish until dusk! I decided to try topwater for some night fish!  Fishing the mouth of a river! 2 chunks! First 2 nigh bass of the year!  Sunday! Fished a spot I heard the bite was good! Tubes jerkbaits and spinner baits! No fish! Saw some guys caught half dozen 3-4lbsers next to us in a  cove! ALWAYS WEAR YOUR LIFE JACKET! My buddy tipped his yak! He didn't have his life jacket! Thank god I was next to him! We were like 10-20'feet from shore! No fish here! Fished another pond attached to this place! Had 1 hit on a tube!  Decided to fish the spot I fished Saturday where I got the night fish' another chunk in the culvert and that's it for the day! 4 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 10, 2017 Super User Posted April 10, 2017 I'm heading to Dennisport for a few days next week, bringing my kayak, of course. A family friend is also coming with his kayak. Â Anyone know of some kayak friendly waters around Dennisport? Evan is one year out from chemotherapy so easy launching is key. Â I'm going to do some recon this week if I can, and any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Quote
CTBassin860 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Went out for a couple hours after work today.1st bass of the year out of the way!!! It was a dink, but it was a fish.Got em on a @Siebert Outdoors jig and SK Rage Craw.Man its good to get one.I was sick of the skunking. 3 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 11, 2017 Super User Posted April 11, 2017 Nice job guys! Nice to hear of bass being caught. Two more weeks for me and hopefully I'll be catching some too. I tried from shore at the Merrimack today but the river is so high that I could only find like 2-3 places to cast from where I could even get my lure past the treeline that is usually the shore! I was using an old bomber crawfish crankbait. I need to give it some attention because I snagged it like 3 times. Got it back every time but both hooks are pretty bent up now and need to be changed. 1 Quote

Same problem here as well. Most of my lakes were completely flooded. Without a boat it was impossible. I had to stop targeting bass and go for trout. Caught 6 biggest was about 3-4 lbs Quote
Janderson45 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Got out in my kayak both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday was meant to be a fishing trip but turned into an exploring/adventuring trip... paddled a bunch of water looking for new places to fish, only ended up making a handful of casts...didn't catch anything that day.  Sunday I paddle a local pond for a few hours in the afternoon, caught 3 up real shallow on a spinnerbaits in newly flooded cover, all pretty small.  Lost 1 out a bit deeper off a point on a ned rig.  Water temps on Saturday were 47-49 degrees in the river, water temps in the small local pond on Sunday got all the way up to 53.  Felt good to get out there at any rate, things should pick-up more over the next few weeks and I'll be out there.  Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 12, 2017 Super User Posted April 12, 2017 Launched at Ponkie for the first time this season around 4:00 this afternoon. Â Â Managed a nice 2-4 Larry on a yellow perch Shadow Rap shallow. Though I'm gonna have to give jigs a serious look this season.... this one or two fish per outing has to stop ...? Â Water temps ranged from 55.x to 57.x. Â Max depth I saw was 7.5 - 8', the deepest I've ever seen the place. Â If I wake up extra early I might hit it again for an hour or two before work in the AM. 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 wow water temps at 57? i need a thermometer. i felt the water it felt super warm yesterday Quote
CTBassin860 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Got some nice low pressure rolling through today.Might have to put on the wet weather gear and go out again today. Quote

JAB50 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 God, I hope not. I need the water temps to stay cool until I come up. I don't want them doing the prespawn lock jaw/ right before they spawn or right after they spawn attitude on me. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 12, 2017 Super User Posted April 12, 2017 Water temps should stay cooler in deeper waters. Â Fishing Rhino said waters around The south coast were in the low 50's. Quote
JAB50 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 My brother fished Webster lake yesterday. He caught a nice smallies and 3 other largemouth. Said the water temps were 53 degrees there. 2 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 12, 2017 Super User Posted April 12, 2017 Sounds like they might be spawning by the time I get home. Good luck guys, catch some toads! Quote
