Mr. Aquarium Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 went out in the wind yesterday! the motor died across the lake so we had to paddle back in the wind to the launch  so i could run home and grab another. fished all day only one HUGE pickerel. it was my PB pickerel On 2/25/2017 at 7:41 PM, DogBone_384 said: Mike, do you use an anchor? I started with a five pound claw and moved to a seven. I have trollies on both sides of my Lure and one on my Ascend. The seven pound anchor keeps me still in all but really harsh winds. I got it at West Marine in Braintree. i need one!! Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 Got back to Plymouth again, launching around 11:00. Started out with the lures I caught smallies with the other day. Didn't get one on the first cast, but my jointed Rapala came through in about 8' of water.  It was quiet for a little while so I switched to a yellow perch shadow rap deep and Mepps 1/4 oz spinner with a brown tail.  I got one with each, with the bigger coming from the Mepps.   I also tried a brown/orange hair jig, copper/red Senko on a 1/8 Keitch jig head, a green/red flake tube, and a chrome/blue shadow rap deep without success.  The biggest of the three had a minnow in it's mouth, and all three had more fight in them than the two I got the other day.  All three smallies were good sized, but skinny, under a pound.  Water temps were 46.x - 47.x.   I plan on returning tomorrow for another go around.  Perhaps I'll try some different colors.   1 Quote
Micropterus Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Got down north of Boston to take advantage of your soft water, and got my first kayak fish of the year, a couple dart pickerel and three bass, and missed three more good bites. They're not stunners but I'm still psyched about getting some open water bass in February, water was 39-42 F between a couple ponds    3 Quote
Janderson45 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Glad to see people are on em early this year.. hopefully weather stays warm and the water stays open from here on out...  Dogbone - Where on earth are you fishing in Plymouth with water temps in the high 40's pushing 50 already?!? Personally I have MUCH more success when water temps start to creep above 45 degrees.. I haven't gotten out yet but when I do if I can find someplace with warmer than average temps that would be ideal. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 1, 2017 Super User Posted March 1, 2017 Hedges Pond in Plymouth, off exit 3.  Was there AGAIN today for a couple hours. Lowrance showed 46.x - 47.x again.  Coaxed one smallie to devour the Halloween flavored Shad Rap Deep before the temp dropped like a stone and heavy rain came through.   A Mepps spinner, GY Heart-tail w/ 3/16 weighted hook, and pumpkin/black/green 4" Hula Grub on 1/8 oz. Keitech jig head couldn't buy a bite for the 2 hours I was there. Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 2, 2017 Super User Posted March 2, 2017 I tossed a brown/orange hair jig two of the three days I fished there, without success. Â I've never had much luck with jigs or blades. Â Hedges is pretty clear. Perhaps I'll try a different color next trip down. Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 a blade at hedges is killer. glad your gettin out man! havent been out much. going this afternoon in my waders to a honey hole i got. hopefully they are chewing Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 2, 2017 Super User Posted March 2, 2017 I'll have to get down there again next week and bring just a couple of blade baits and jigs. That'll force me to figure out what I'm doing wrong with them .... other than not catching fish ?. Â I have a brown/orange and a black/blue punisher jig. Any other suggestions are welcome. 1 Quote
Janderson45 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 NASTY looking weather pattern moving in... Looks like I'm going to have to wait at least another week to wet a line.. Maybe I'll chuck a spinnerbait or blade from shore just to scratch the itch.. Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 blades you lift them to they vibrate and let them fall, coldwater dont over work them. you need to find the cadence and how they want the lure presented to them. fast or slow? ive caught them  draggin blades caught them actively jiggin to  Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 2, 2017 Super User Posted March 2, 2017 I'm off Tuesday & Wednesday next week and plan on hitting Hedges and/or Halfway ... if anyone wants to meet, lemme know. Quote

Maybe I'll chuck a spinnerbait or blade from shore just to scratch the itch..  I spoke to a guy working the perimeter of Hedges the other day who said he got 7 smallies with a gold spinner while there, one being 3 pounds.  You can work the entire pond with waders.  It's a kettle, so hitting 8-10' depths is doable from shore.   I found two humps within shore casting range, one on the south side before the inlet and another by the west side. Mr. Aquarium Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Got a decent fish today after work! Got another bass and perch 6 Quote
