Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 21, 2016 Super User Posted November 21, 2016 A FRISBEE TOURNAMENT. Â I've not heard of one of those since college, 30+ years ago..... Â I haven't been out since last Thursday at Great Herring. Â I'll try to get out once or twice before ice over. Â I've caught fish every month except January and April, so I'm not giving up, unless work and weather prevent it. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted November 21, 2016 Super User Posted November 21, 2016 First Snow! And of course the entire Thanksgiving long weekend is forecasted to be a total washout....hopefully they get that wrong. I'd like to get out one last time besides from shore. And yea it's an interesting sport Dogbone, most colleges have a team these days. Quote
JAB50 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Jeez, I played football for UMass Lowell when we still had a team. Then they got rid of it several years after I graduated. Unfortunately Massyak85, you need that rain up in the northeast really bad! It just stinks that it's coming during your thanksgiving break! Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted November 21, 2016 Super User Posted November 21, 2016 Yea we do need it bad. I might try and get out in my kayak once if there's a half day that looks decent enough. Quote

I'm torn, whether or not to get out again on the kayak or to go hunting Monday....  My girlfriends mother burnt herself pretty good early on thanksgiving morning.. Dressing it for her and ultimately taking her to the ER put a damper on my fishing plans ?.  So I haven't been out.  Winds permitting I was thinking of trying to fish Wequaquet in Barnstable for pike/LMB/SMB either tomorrow or Sunday.  If winds kick up to much (looks like they could) I'll probably stay off the cape and head out elsewhere, potentially concord/Sudbury river as someone else recommended previously.  I'm a little torn, I want to get out a time or two again before it really cools down, but I don't want to waste my time on less than optimal bodies of water and conditions.  I'd rather splurge on a couple of good destinations where I've got ample depths, structures, and hard cover to fish.  I don't know what water temps look like on a lake down the cape like Wequaquet, but I'm imagining it might still be holding around 50 degrees, perhaps a few degrees cooler but undoubtedly still warmer than all of the inland bodies of water.   Edit: massyak- Brimfield res also a place I'd consider, I know I remember you fishing it in the past.. Only been there once this summer and didn't have a good day, but seemed like a decent place.. Supposedly a decent pike fishery for central mass too which is a plus considering I'd imagine it's water temps are mid 40s.  Quote

It'll be a 'game time' decision. Can't get out Sunday, it's Quincy's Christmas parade and all off duty FD personnel are encouraged to march in it. Good PR.  I'm off Monday. Quote

There's definitely some good fishing there though. Quote
JAB50 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 This time of year Wequaqet can be pretty lights out. I always fished the coves. Throw jigs, spinnerbaits, rattle traps and jerbaits. Find structure. And 10-12 feet of water for the traps. Mashpee Wakeby use to be  dynamite too. But, gets pounded now. We use to throw spinnerbaits in and at the mouth of Pickerall cove. We actually caught close to 20 fish one day. While it was snowing! If you go to the Concord; fish Fairhaven bay. That was a thanksgiving day ritual for me and my friends. Get up early(4:00am). Launch no later than 6. Place can get packed! Use the same lures as I mentioned for Wequaqet. Sometimes around this time of year you'll see bait still being chased! Senko time Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted November 26, 2016 Super User Posted November 26, 2016 Went to A1 on what was probably my last fishing trip of the year. Got there and it was like glass, not even a ripple. It was just me and another guy in a kayak with his son. I saw them catch something but couldn't tell what it was, didn't look big. Better than I did though, I spent the few hours I was there throwing a hudd 68. Didn't even get a nibble. It was still nice to get out though. Hopefully we can start making ice soon. Quote
Cyacnba Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I fished at the Charles for 2 hours and caught around 10 bass on a Ned rig. Nothing big, but they were all fat and pretty feisty. Biggest one was probably around 1.5 lb 2 Quote
Micropterus Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Got out yesterday and had a great morning for quality, got four between the two ponds we hit, not pictured is a 3.66 4.38 5.51 5.33 6 Quote
Cyacnba Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Went back to same spot as yesterday, but I only caught 3 largies using the ned rig. It was too windy, which made it hard to feel the bait (went more finesse today). 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 i went out both days this weekend, saturday fished a new pond. slow action at first but i found where the fish were. lost a big fish on a jig. 1 dink on a jig with a few hits. sun went down and i started tossing swimbaits. picked off a few more dinks on big baits. had a big blow up on one.  5 dinks total. sad to say but that was the best day ive had since september. sunday went to a good cold water pond. caught a chunky 2.5 plus. it swam out the hole in my net before i could weigh it.  also caught some big perch. i hate this time of year, i can never catching anything big or the fishing is super slow! 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 29, 2016 Super User Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) Mike, it sounds like you need to put a net on your Christmas list... ? BTW, if anyone is in the market for a size 35 spinning reel, Gander Mountain is closing out Pflueger's Patriarch XT at 50% off...... Â I already have too many spinning reels but thought I'd pass this along. Edited November 29, 2016 by DogBone_384 surfing too much on Cyber Monday 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 30, 2016 Super User Posted November 30, 2016 Friday looks to be the last day we're going to see temps around 50. Â As of now I'm not working and am going to be in the Plymouth area giving it a go for smallmouth and or trout. Â Right now I'm planning on Big Sandy with my Lure 11.5 or Great Herring with my Ascend 128T. Good luck to anyone else that gets out there. ADD: Didn't get out, likely the end of the season for me; hopefully not, but if it is, I had a great '16. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted December 1, 2016 Super User Posted December 1, 2016 Question for any of you guys who use jigs. When the water gets this cold, do you go small or big with your jigs? Like a 3/32 kietech jig, or a 3/4 football? They are slow right now for sure so would a tiny one be more likely to draw a bite since it's so subtle, or should I use a bigger one since they will want to conserve energy and take advantage of a larger meal? Or should I just keep chucking my hudd 68 and crawling it on the bottom until it bounces off the ice? "hamma" Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I'll use a 1/4 or 3/16 oz  black hair jig with a 101 black pork trailer, on a med action rod with 10 lb test green mono.  for "jigging" and I will also "drag/stitch" either,.. a 1/4 oz football head jig with a yamamoto hula grub, on same type gear. or a 3/8 oz standard jig and pig, on 12 pound test green mono and a flipping stick 1 Quote
