Just went out. Caught about 6 all between 3lbs-4.5lbs. Lost one that was every bit of 7 plus pounds. Right next to my kayak. Lost 3 other ones between 4lbs-6lbs. On beds. Windy as hell and the water is very stained. Just tossed to areas that looked like a possible bed. Fish fight like oversized smallies insane! Got my arse handed to by those fish.

fished yesterday afternoon in the yak! couple of dinks on swimbaits and frogs! got a 5lbers on a swimbait

Caught 2 smallies two days ago at the Charles River Esplanade. Another fisherman got 2 smallies as well, one being pretty decent. I also caught a few largemouth bass with bloody tail, which I guess it means they finished spawning.

Well, my biggest smallie is about 6.8lbs. That was caught at winnisquam in New Hampshire. But, White Island pond in Plymouth has some that big there. Long Pond Harwich and several waters on cape cod do also. Caught several in the 5lb range there.

Again, that's a great day of fishing when your catching those types of weights! Congrats

Is there a public launch at White Island? I looked it over in Google maps and couldn't see anything obvious. Thanks in advance.

Been going out frequently, Charles River in Watertown. Bass seem to be deep, well deep for where I am fishing. I'm bank fishing so I don't have a good view of beds to see if they are on them. The cold weather and wind over the last few days hasn't helped.

Catching most on weightless super flukes. Consistently pull out Large mouth but not in great numbers. Herring are schooling, but haven't had any luck with stripers.

New(ish) to Mass so I'm still figuring it out, but I love the Charles. Any good spots to bank fish in the esplanade?

Thanks

no and people will yell at you for fishing on it! they dont like outsiders. if you dont live on the pond they will get mad and call the cops and make you leave. crappy i know!

My brother has a friend whose family owns a place on it. So, as Mike said there really is no public access. Sorry, Dogbone.

No worries.  There's plenty of water in Plymouth/Cape Cod areas to fish.  With any luck I'll launch the kayak down there somewhere in the AM.  Hopefully it'll make up for today's GOOSE EGG @ Ponkapog.

Thanks for the replies.

BTW Mike - welcome to the forum.   You'll find it friendlier than MAF*****

Hey Dogbone,

ive been finding largemouth and smallmouth on beds this week. Just an FYI.

Kind of figured, with water temps right around 60. Ponkie is tough, being only 7' deep and mostly muck & weed bottom. I spent some time along the Northern shore where it turns from muck to rock but didn't see anything.  The Pickerel were hiding too.

No matter, wasn't the first or last GOOSE - EGG for me... Just keep at it.

I'm going to head to a small local pond in my kayak today. Never fished it before but they recently dredged it since it was completely choked with weeds in the summer.

I bank fished a local pond yesterday and did well. I caught a LM that was about 3 lbs and numerous smaller bass. I also lost the largest SMB I've ever (would've) caught right next to the shore.

I was fishing from some rocks and there's a sheer drop there underwater. I had the fish right right next to the rocks when it made a deep dive and my knot came undone. I tightened my drag up while fighting the fish in--in retrospect, I guess I set it too tight. It's crazy too because I had just retied! I've been replaying it in my mind, and the drag setting seems like the only thing I could've done different to prevent losing the fish.

All the fish I caught (or almost caught yesterday) came on wacky rigged senkos.

Just got done fishing. My brother caught close to an 8.5lber. We weighed it. We caught about 20-25 fish total. There wasn't one fish under 3.5lbs. Averages were close to 4.5lbs. But, it was windy again and the water is very stained. But, the fish were all big and fought like demons. All red tails and mouths.

Got out of work this morning and planned on a successful day fishing Great Herring. Got called to help out my in-Law's neighboor with an electrical problem, so was delayed getting to Plymouth.

Shortly after launch I found a hump I saw on a lake map so I stopped and tossed a tube on it.  The wind/current turned me around enough to get my line tangled in my trolling motor.  After paddling to shore, unwrapping, and retying I made it to a point/drop off where I'd caught some smallies last fall.  After about 3 hours of nothing more than a yellow perch following a black/blue swim Senko to the surface I gave up and headed home.

GOOSE EGG again.  I guess I'll just keep trying....  perhaps the light will go on and I'll figure out what you guys who catch big (and many) bass are doing and get some of my own.

Best of luck out there...

d**n dude, I wish I knew places to catch 20 4lbers

Anyways, I went to a local pond and got a few 1.5's but no signs of anything big. I hadn't been to this pond before so I was mostly just exploring. It was a lot shallower than I expected and muddy pretty much everywhere. There's probably a few big girls in there but I didn't see much reason to go back there vs my other usual places. All fish came on a wacky worm. Seemed like the males were still up shallow gaurding beds.

Let's just say this was a lifetime day. And they were all on beds. Blind casting. Water is very stained too.

Poseidon smiled upon me today. Ended up getting 6 striper at the beach. Most of them were small, one was a borderline keeper (didn't have a tape on me). I'll try to get some pics up later

I went from shore for a couple hours at a few places this morning with the swimbait, no takers accept some pickeral slapping at the boot tail. I went to one pond and soon realized the swimbait wouldn't be happening since the weeds were so grown in. But I walked the shoreline and saw a bunch of 2lbers on beds still. It was funny to see a bass bed 10 feet away from a bluegill bed with only some weeds separating them. I went out in my kayak and intended to continue my swimbait fishing but decided to just have some fun for a couple hours catching stuff on a little 3.5" paddle tail. A bunch of pickeral, some good sized ones too, and a few bass. You weren't kidding about the bass fighting like smallies either, the ones I caught weren't huge but they were jumping, charging my kayak and being really lively.

I had something pretty cool happen today from shore.

So back story, last time I took my kayak out I noticed a 4/0 EWG weighted swimbait hook on the ramp when I was taking my kayak out of the pond after fishing. I ended up keeping it, not that I really needed it but hey, it's free.

Today me and a friend went fishing from shore at a couple places. The last place we stopped at I rigged him up a little 4" swimbait with that same hook. About 5 minutes in, he sets the hook and the line goes slack. I was kind of surprised since I had just retied it for him. But I rigged him up another and we kept fishing. About five minutes later I get a bite on my scatter rap. It was about a 2ft pickerel. When I was going to unhook it, I notice something in it's mouth. It's that same swimbait my friend broke off. It was almost completely in it's stomach but amazingly the entire thing slid out easily. So I got that back, tied it onto my rod since the scatter rap bite died, and got another one on it.

Those d**n toothy creatures took a lot of my tungsten weights and 3/0 extra wide gap gammies this past week!

Spent Friday on Great Herring in Plymouth.  The weather was perfect, water temps just above 60, barometric pressure right where it should be, and calm water (a first for me here).  Caught 8 yellow perch and 4 smallies, all 1 pound or less.  I discovered I was using too small a hook on my Zoom worm and switched to a 1/0 wide gap (sorry Tru-Turn).  The perch hit nearly anything I'd throw at them, and if they didn't hit it, they'd follow it to the surface... fun to play with them.  It got slow in the afternoon, but I got a good hit on my jointed SMB Rapala around 4:00 pm but lost whatever it was because I let a little slack on the line - whoopsie  .

No harm.  My trolling motor battery lasted the whole day and I explored the lake more.  I found two humps adjacent to Camp Bourndale.  I think I'll try rolling a jig/tube down their sides next time I'm there.

Lastly.  I'm looking at new spots.  Anyone know/fished Waldo Lake in Brockton/Avon?

Fished the merrimack river behind my house in Haverhill. Got there around 5:30 and first cast caught a smallie.. Got 9 more after that. all dinks but it was fun on light tackle.

It was the outgoing tide so there was a lot of beach to cover.. When i was packing up i switched over to a Purple/Black/Blue booyah spinner and made one last walk.. Reeling in and BOOM! had my PB smallie on the line and missed him at my feet. If it was anything under 3LBS i would of been shocked. He hit like a freight truck, i actually thought it was a striper since there running right now.

Sucks i couldn't hold it, but atleast i know he liked what i was throwing lol.
