bass_masster Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Haven't be out in about 2 weeks but here is a trip from Sept 4th: http://bassmass.xyz/index.php/2015/09/04/unplanned-canoe-trip-yesterday-around-plymouth-pays-off-big-with-a-6lb-class-bass/ Scroll down to the pics if you don't want to read. Got one decent 3lb-er and one nice big beast at 5.89lbs on the scale, few ounces off of my PB 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted September 29, 2015 Super User Posted September 29, 2015 Been back to my new 'favorite' pond (Ponkapog)a couple times in the last few days. The numbers aren't great but the average bass is 2+ pounds and a best pickerel of 2 pounds 10 oz. I went right after shift this morning with the intention of staying until I had to return to work, but as luck would have it, I got called back in after an hour and a half of tossing a LiveTarget mouse along the lili pads and weeds next to the boat launch. Had a bunch of little fish attack it, but nothing big enough to hook up with.... If time and weather cooperates I'll be back there as much as possible this week. Though heading south is a possibility. Quote
WPCfishing Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I want to fish South Watuppa. I haven't been there in years... I still fish Stafford a few times a month. If any of you locals want to hook up let me know. We can meet at one of the lakes. I fish out of my rigged canoe and usually fish alone but if you need a seat I can arrange the canoe easily enough. JG233 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Quiet day today - picked up a decent sized bass and a few fat crappie. I might try doing a little shore fishing next week, but I think this pretty much wraps up my first year return to fishing. 1 Quote
Janderson45 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 anyone got any recent/relevant water temps? I was out on Sabattia in Taunton couldn't have been more than 2 weeks ago, and mid day water temps in the shallows (less than 5 feet) were as high as 83 degrees still. In fairness it was during the middle of that nice unseasonably warm stretch we had.. Temps in the deeper (15-25 feet) areas were about 78 degrees. I'm assuming the water has probably cooled off significantly in the past few weeks. All of this rain we're going to be getting is sure to shake things up too... Anyone noticing a difference in the bass' behavior?? More likely to chase and catching them shallower potentially? Falling water temperatures and rising water levels has got me thinking the fish should be good and stirred up. I'm guessing there's still a lot of good fishing to be had, just going to have to dress a bit warmer. Quote
Mike2841 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 The pond near me was still sitting just above 70 before all the rain, haven't been out in about a week 1 Quote
JazzPipes Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Just spent 4 hours fishing Cochituate from the shore. The boat house was closed an the whole park was a desert for the exception of 3 or 4 cars parked with people inside drinking coffee. Caught nothing, I saw some bluegills and that was it. Then, me and my buddy went to Dug Pond, very limited shore access and we caught a small LMB. Finally, we went to Sudbury Reservoir and we caught a little Perch. A lot of casting, not a lot of fish. Is anyone intending to hit Cochituate this fall? They website says that it has a ton of fish but I didnt see anything. best Quote
JazzPipes Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Got to Ponkapog today after lunch, paddled out to the NE corner and continued with the 5" swim-Senko I had luck with the other day. Nothing happening with Mr. Senko so I switched to a chartreuse spinner bait. My reward was a decent pickerel and a bass between 2 - 3 pounds, though I can't count the bass because he spit me as I reached for it to bring into the kayak. Note to self: work on hook-set... Hoping to stay until sundown didn't pan out - got the call back to reality, so I packed up and back to the world. I noticed the weeds dying off quickly. For you guys with a lot of experience with Ponkie, is it time to work closer to shore with topwaters & spinnerbaits? The place is pretty flat with a depth between 4 - 5' deep. Thanks, in advance, for your help. How is the shore access on Ponkapog? Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Was up on Ossippee last weekend and the water temps were a consistent 66. The weekend before, the lakes on the MA/NH border were 74ish but falling fast. 2 Quote
timcauliffe Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Was up on Ossippee last weekend and the water temps were a consistent 66. The weekend before, the lakes on the MA/NH border were 74ish but falling fast. Same here! - Here's my report of last week: Had a great night this past Thursday. Launched my small boat around 7pm. Soon as dark hit, the bite was on. Fished an opening in some thick pads with the BBZ-1 Rat in Ninja color. Had a strong hit, but duffed the hookset. 2-3 casts later - nailed her. I've pulled a bunch of 4+ pounders this season, but this was was my seasons best at 5.07lbs. Moved down the opening in the pads...about 4 casts later, landed a 4.15lb slob. It started getting late and really buggy, so I called it a night. The next few days, I spent the weekend with a good friend at his parents cottage on Lake Ossipee (NH). Took a half day from work and fished throughout the afternoon up there on his Whaler with no luck. We had some beers and BBQ then set out for some more night topwater. Landed a nice 2lb smallie on the ninja rat. Duffed the hookset on another. He had luck with 2 smallies and a largie on a popper. Next day, we setout for the main lake. He pulled in the first smallie, mid-day on a craw in some pads. We moved on to a rocky section of the lake fishing tubes. 2 smallies each for both of us on tubes and craws. One gut hooked itself so bad that is basically died when dragging it in - he was a little bummed. My friend also earlier lost a fat smallie on a jump. The night dropped down to the 40's. I had one hit, but we were unsuccessful the rest of the night. The following day, we set out on Purity Lake and were only able to pull in 1 slime dart each. Bummer. Went back to Lake Ossipee. He pulls in a giant slime dart which shakes off at the boat. We start heading in as the wind is unbareable - I get a hit on the Jackall Ganatrel running it horizontal near his dock. Some decent followers, but no luck. This one lived, but got herself a little bloody. All in all - good weekend! Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 2, 2015 Super User Posted October 2, 2015 Any thoughts on whether or not this cold snap will shut the bass down for the season? Water temps were in the mid - high 60's last time I went out.Next week's forecast calls for 40s - 50s @ night, upper 60s during the day. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 2, 2015 Super User Posted October 2, 2015 How is the shore access on Ponkapog? There's a dirt road circling the pond with some shore access. You can get to it via the car top boat lot off Randolph Street. Quote

Just a guess but if you can catch'em through the ice....a little cold snap won't end the season. Down size and slow down. Don't be afraid to throw those moving baits....just a little slower. JazzPipes Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 What about this hurricane coming? It will tick my dad off for sure. The guy is coming all the way from Brazil just se we can fish together! man!!!! Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 6, 2015 Super User Posted October 6, 2015 Had an hour between jobs this afternoon. I stopped by BHR and on my third or fourth cast bagged a nice 3+ pound bass on a craw flavored chatterbait with a brown/red-flake Havoc something or another trailer. That was all, but I'll take it. I'm planning on NOT working Wednesday, just haven't figured out where to go and for how long to fish.... Quote
Mike2841 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 any trout guys on this thread? I usually turn to trout when the bass bite dies off, unless I'm going for lakers at wachusett Quote

Janderson45 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 any trout guys on this thread? I'm fishing the Quabbin reservoir this weekend before it closes. Looking for trout/salmon/smallmouth bass. Haven't decided whether I'll be hitting the east side or the west side of it yet, it'll depend on what species I decide I want to target the most. There's lots of good little trout ponds around the Plymouth area and down towards the Cape. Peter's pond in sandwich comes to mind if you've got a boat, or Little pond and Lout pond in plymouth if you're looking to target some trout from shore. As mike Said Wachusett is also a good bet Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 8, 2015 Super User Posted October 8, 2015 I hoped to get out this week with the good weather but our plans changed quickly. We're hosting an exchange student from Spain for a couple weeks. My daughter dropped that request on us on short notice so that 'to do' list everyone has around their house just skipped 1st and went right to 5th gear... If I don't get out for bass while our guest is here, I'll surely get out for some trout fishing. I've been dying to try out my 9'6" 'float'n'fly' rod.... especially since I don't know ANYTHING about trout fishing. Anyone want to give it a go with me, drop me a PM. Have a great week everyone! JazzPipes Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Caught myself a little trout today! First time ever I eat a freshwater fish from mass! 1 Quote
