massrob Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Finished both jobs and the girls were out so what's the best thing to do when you've got a couple hours to yourself. GO FISHING. I stopped by BHR on the way home, started with a black/blue chatter bait. Got nothing but backlashes from my normally backlash-proof T3. I ditched the chatter bait and stripped off a length of line and tied on a 5" watermelon slice Senko, wacky rigged. I left my patience in the truck so I shelved the Senko for a 7 1/2" T-rigged chili pepper Culprit worm. The Culprit produced a 2+/- pound bass in just a few casts. This fish was ticked enough to take some line off my reel, to my suprise. I then caught a pound/pound + 1/2 bass on the very next cast. That's twice this year the Culprit worked on consecutive casts.... go figure. What really blew my mind was the size of the bass that followed #2 to the shore, something I've NEVER seen before, and sure don't know why. The video I took is too big to post here, so here's the Youtube link. Pretty cool. https://youtu.be/LrRgQcGXAvg I don't know why they're 90 degrees out of whack, but here they are: IMG_4554.JPG IMG_4556.JPG Nice fish dogbone. That video was awesome I've never seen anything like that before. Quote
FinCulture Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Wow! Amazing vid! I'm going out to my honey hole tomorrow, will post results! Quote
BR1AN Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Good stuff dogbone. If that bass was smaller the other bass would of definitely tried for it lol. Went out Saturday during the rain and thunderstorms on a canoe. Couple dinks but overall very slowww. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted August 18, 2015 Super User Posted August 18, 2015 It's not unusual for other fish to follow a hooked fish. But I've never seen one follow another to shore and hang around like that. They usually scoot when they get near the boat.  I have had a bass jump into my canoe when I was paddling through a lily pad bed. 1 Quote
MaBasser Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 What's up Guys, been killin it on the frog, nothing huge but even in this heat the bite has been on. Mostly late evening bites , even stopping on the way home from work to take a few casts from shore has been producing. Here's a decent one from a couple weeks ago. She weighed 3.6. Â Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted August 19, 2015 Super User Posted August 19, 2015 Took a quick trip to Killington to burn off expiring time-share points.  Fished Kent Pond in Killington, because it was close to the condo, around supper time yesterday.  Scouted the pond out until dark and managed a couple small bass.  One poor fella tried swallowing a 4" Senko, hook and all... I couldn't get it out.  I feel bad when I gut hook fish .  Returned at dawn, fishing until just after noon when I had to get back home.  Caught a pile of little bass, yellow perch, and what I think were pumpkinseeds in the morning on just about anything I threw at them (3" Senko, in-line spinner, perch flavored suspending Rapala, AND Live Target MOUSE.).  It was amusing to see a dozen Pumkins follow the little Senko from 10', hand around it and drift back down.  Once the sun got high the action slowed to nothing.   Kent pond ranges from a 3-4' with lots of grass & reed beds to 18' and a generally flat bottom (out by the dam/road).  There are a few points and lots of trees & stumps, especially by the island in the middle.  An old-timer who was there when I was packing up said there are BIG trout there... I sure didn't see any.  Then again, Grampa Casey always said, "Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see..."  I hoped to bag a smallie, or a BIG Larry, but I'll take the pile of little fish and not being at work for 24 hours any day...  I'm heading to Stoneham, ME for another 24 hour 'fishing frenzie' at the end of August. At the moment I'm targeting Horseshoe Pond, and/or the GIANT reservoir/lake East of it (name unknown), depending on access. Let's see if I can catch a PB. Quote

Shouldn't you be fishing?  I went out by myself for a couple of hours today (after a 2 week break)...managed 4 nice keepers, 3 were 1.58, 1.44 and 1.56 lb and one was 2.88 lb all Larries also the usual suspects of pickerel and perch. Not my best day but a lot better than staying home. Dragging stuff on the bottom worked just fine. By the way...if you bring a scale, your #'s become a lot more realistic.  Grampa Quote

Dragging stuff on the bottom worked just fine. By the way...if you bring a scale, your #'s become a lot more realistic.  Grampa  Can't afford a scale right now.  It's all I can do just to keep baits on the hooks.   Didn't go near the shore today, except for launching and loading.  Didn't get within a hundred yards of the beach.  Worked all the areas with vegetation in water 6 to 8 feet deep.  Two types.  One is curly tendrils that reach to the surface.  Each tendril has a small flower about a quarter inch across.  Yellow center, white petals.  The other is thicker with leaves.  About six inches of the top is lying on the surface.  The tendrils yielded the most fish, but it would have been a mistake to skip the other.   The thicker plants are easier to find.  Instead of the clear water being a blue/green tint, it takes on a brownish hue that lets you know it's a place to try.  The tendrils are just a stalk with the flower at the tip.  They are a whitish color.  Looks like possible T storms tomorrow morning.  If that changes, and they aren't threatening this area, I'll be out on another scouting mission.  The wind will be easterly, like today.  I like that since it is better for scouting the east side of the pond.
