Got out to a spot we haven't been in a few years on the South Shore, manage to land this hawg on a full size brush hog t-rigged and pegged with a tungsten weight, 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG. Love the big brush hogs one of my favorite baits. Didn't have my nice digital scale but my crappy lip gripper had it somewhere between 5 and 6lbs, felt every ounce of that.

Funny/crappy thing is, we were staring at MULTIPLE bass that had pounds in this one and were a class above, 6-8lbs. It was unreal, we could friggin see them but they wouldn't touch ANYTHING. Spent hours on them, and they didn't appear to be actively gaurding any beds. Absolute agony. Any one of them would have smashed my personal best. Have never seen anything like that, and had no idea there were fish that big.

Bite was tough the other day out of the canoe on the A1 site in Westborough.  Managed 1 pickerel and 1 LMB in 4 hours myself, and my buddy got skunked.  Neither fish of mine had any size.  Both came on a carolina rigged lizard, short leader, like 10" fished pretty slow still.

Day was made when he got a call on his cellphone in the middle of the day with an acceptance to his number 1 med school.  He didn't care that he didn't catch any fish any fish anymore ;).

Went out yesterday on my birthday to neponset reservoir for a couple hrs. Wow that place is big maybe it just seems like it is cuz I was on my kayak but definitely the biggest place I've ever fished. I caught one 2 lb lmb and about a million pickerel. I literally couldn't make a cast without them grabbing the bait. I had to stop myself from setting the hook. A guy told me the pickerel were going crazy but I've never seen anything like that before. Still had a fun day and caught my birthday bass so that's all I wanted for my bday.

Out to Quabbin yesterday Gate 43  total of probably 14 smallies with a  5 fish bag pushing 23lbs,  2 over 5 couple of 4s and 2-3 over 3lbs water temps 55 to 65 degrees  depending on your location.  I have the pics if someone wants to post them up for me because I don't have a clue.

@je1946 what were you catching those quabbin smallies on? if you dont mind sharing.

Fish came on Jerkbaits, Spinnerbaits, and Bladebaits, one smaller fish on a tube. Three of the four came out of 15 to 25 ft of water, and one of the fours up close to shore.  Not much show of spawn inspite of the water temps 54 to 65 degrees and none of the fish had their tails torn up from fanning out nest. sent u a PM

Webster Lake 10:30-2:30 a dozen fish on 6" Elaztec Salamander 1/16 oz tungsten shaky head. Yes they are bedding.

Back to the Quabbin today.  Tough fishing with post frontal conditions(at least thats my excuse) 10 fish up to 3.5 lbs.  Strong cold northerly breeze for most of the morning, so the usual haunts were very sparse of fish with water temps falling back to 52 degrees, so it was off to warmer water  where we played run and gun with tubes, spinner baits and jerkbaits we found a lot of empty beds in the warmer water but managed some takers.   Talked to a couple of other bass guys at the ramp one said he caught 15 with finess baits his biggest was a little over 4lbs.  .

Been down in central Florida since Tuesday night. Definitely not used to this weather and fishing. Only managed one bass and lost one. Our plane leaves for MA at 5:30 so were doing one last hoorah in a canal and hopefully get that pig!!

Are the lady's on the beds yet?

I finally got out yesterday on a small local pond, and the bite was on.  Several largemouth the largest four and a half pounds.  Several smallmouth, the largest about two pounds.  One large pickerel, about five pounds.

My kind of day, cool, cloudy with intermittent showers, wind maxed out at ten mph from the southwest.

They hit wacky worm (4 inch senko watermelon w/ red and black flakes), 3/16th ounce shakey head with a four inch SK elaztec finesse worm peanut butter and jelly, Zoom fat Albert watermelon w/ red and black flake.

Anyone interested in fishing the pond, send me a p.m.  The front seat of the canoe is usually available.  Weekdays are best because the ramp is small and parking is limited.  The pond is only ten minutes from my house in Westport.

Here are a few images.

Wow that pond looks beautiful. That's a good day of fishing. I want to catch a smallmouth this year that is my goal.

I woke up with the sun this morning and drove to Blue Hills Reservoir before work.  Almost 2 hours of casting practice, and nothing more.  The water level looks lower than after the melt, and at least 15' down from last fall.  What were previously beds are now shoreline.

I walked the perimeter figuring I'd see something with a fin on it, but I hate to say it, there isn't a sign of life in the water.  This reservoir was reopened in 2008-09 after the state drained it and installed two underground storage tanks, so it's a young system.  I've never confirmed whether or not it was stocked after completion, and the three years I've fished there my numbers steadily decreased.  I also witnessed people taking their catches home many times.  If that's the case, this water might be plain old fished out.  Too bad.

I saw two bass my last trip there, I hope they're not the last two....

Back to the Quabbin again today, thru the pass to Russ Mtn, fishing the shallow flats, beds everywhere but not a lot of fish on them, water temps back to high 50s to low 60s stiff cold breeze making conditions tough so back inside to warmer water.  We managed about 8-10 smallies on tubes, and spinner baits but the bite was tough all day, biggest about 3lbs.

This year has been all messed up so far.. You got striper schoolies already getting caught down at plum island. Haven't caught a single bass yet though lol

Wow, that sux! That res is so convenient to hit on the way home. Guess it'll be Houghton's, Buckmaster's or somewhere in Easton.

Funny you mention that OTHER bass...  I live on a peninsula on the ocean and saw a few comorants diving in the creek on my street at high tide.  I don't usually see them doing that until the pogies & little stripers come in, which is usually late June, early July.

I too am still waiting for my 1st LMB of the year.  Heading to NH in June with a kayak, my MTB, and plans on catching some bass....  They're not cooperating here in Eastern MA...

No worries, I'll post my success / failure while I'm in NH. I'm hoping for some good fish.

Spent a few hours yesterday fishing with a friend's son who's fighting (and winning) leukemia at Little Pond, in Plymouth. Evan did well, with my wife paddling him around on our 128T, though he didn't catch anything.

I had two bass that felt good on a T-rigged swim Senko, but poor hook sets aided their escape, so they don't count, not making it to the kayak. I thought I had them - they held onto my bait like I hooked them.

Between the Bruins not making the playoffs, the Sox return to mediocrity, and my inability to catch much of anything this year - the mojo's sure gone somewhere else....

Too bad Fr. Guido Sarducci's not around anymore....

Had a busy day so to Whitman's Pond in Weymouth after dinner I went. Hit the water about 6:45. By dusk I'd had not so much as a whiff of a hit, throwing a T-rigged zoom I generally do well with, a perch flavored scatter rap, a 1/4 oz gold in-line spinner, a blue & chrome shadow rap, and a brown/black/red spinner bait.

Here's my big catch of the night:

And what my Lowrance showed me:

I've had a decent week last Monday went to my favorite spot and caught a bunch on a whopper plopper. The weekend I was at a lake in foxboro and caught a million pickerel and one decent bass. Then on the way home stopped back at my spot and caught 2 small ones on a rage cutr worm and 1 close to 4lbs on a frog. That was my first one on a frog this year and I almost lost it. As soon as I got it in the kayak the frog fell out. Close one I need to get better at setting the hook with the frog I've missed a bunch of fish. Hope you guys have better luck.
