I've been working so much I haven't had anytime to fish. It's driving me crazy. In the meantime I've been buying all sorts of things for my kayak just got a new rod holder and these clips to put on the side to hold the paddle. I'm trying to find a lake to go to around my area. The biggest place I know of is canton reservoir and Norfolk reservoir. Does anyone know any other lakes that are good? I love being able to get on the water it changes everything. Some of the places I fishes last year I've learned so much by being able to look into the water. I found the places I would expect them to spawn. I can't wait to see a fish on a bed. I'm not sure if I will fish for them. What baits are you guys using this spring? Thanks guys

Billington Sea in Plymouth is supposed to be good. I fished there twice last year but spent most of my time paddling & mapping the place out with my Lowrance. There's a gravel boat ramp on the Morton Park side of Billington Sea.

Whitman's Pond is still a bit of a mystery for me. Haven't caught more than some dinks and pickerel. There's a boat ramp on Middle Street.

Jacob's Pond in Norwell is good. It's only 5' deep and is a bass, perch, and pickerel fest. By May, however, it's fully overgrown. They've got a nice kayak ramp off Jacobs Lane. Just park at the upper lot after you unload.

I've not been down to Long Pond yet. That's supposed to hold nearly everything. Look it up on MAFishfinder.

Yea I just put in for vacation to go to Plymouth in June my aunts got a house for a week. I can't wait to go down there. I saw someone catch a giant fish out of long pond on mafishfinder. I went to look at the charles river in Dedham and it was flowing so fast I think I'd be scared to go in my kayak. I'm not sure if it's like that everywhere or just the place I looked. I think Long pond has smallmouth too. I really wanna catch a smallmouth that's my goal this year.

If you live in the Norwood area, Plymouth is only an hour away.  Do you have a rack on your car/truck to transport your kayak?

If you have free time on weekends, good place to start fishing.

I would love to go down there on the weekends but I only have Sunday off and I don't wanna have to go too far. I'd rather stay around here until I get a real weekend. Hopefully work slows down soon. I do have a rack to transport. I'm still in the process of rigging my kayak. I can't wait to have it all set up.

This is a Lamprey and it was attached to the belly of one of the trout like a suction cup. Never seen one in person before absolutely disgusting. Google it so u can see the mouth on these things.

It looks like Iaconelli printed his name on it.

When do you guys think the bass will start bedding up? This time last year I was killing it!

I think we're a couple weeks away.  The last two times I've had the kayaks out the water temperatures were hovering around 50 degrees and we've not really had enough warm weather to get any higher.  The 10 day forecast said we're looking at hitting 70 next weekend.  I think we need some of that to bring the water temps up.

Anyone been to Mashpee-Wakeby yet? Looking at heading there next Sunday since there are no tournies

Had some time this morning so off to see if Wampatuck State Park was open. Yes, it is. Got the kayak in to see if I could catch anything.

It was very windy, but My 128T is as big as an aircraft carrier (read STABLE) so I parked it in 16' deep water between two big points that had steep drop offs & current going down the middle. Threw Rapala DT 10 (yellow perch) & 16 (bluegill) for a bit, without a bite. I tied a green w/purple flake Kreature on after my knot failed and THE DT16 flew away. Nothing on that either.

I moved to the middle area when I found a dip that went from 15' to about 20' that held fish, according to my Lowrance. The Kreature struck out again, so I switched to a white/chartreuse chatter bait. Nope, nadda.

Ran out of time, and even though I couldn't buy a strike, I had a good morning. The reservoir is quite large, so I know it's going to take at least a full season to learn.

The surface temp started @ 53 and finished at 55. This is my 1st early Spring on a kayak, I don't really know if I'm looking in the right spots, perhaps the shallows would be a better choice later this week, time permitting.

This might help: http://www.bassmaster.com/vandams-6-season-bass-guide?page=2

The best part of the trip was that the wind calmed down and sun came out about the time I had to leave.

Got a few hours in today not much luck. Got a pickerel on a jerkbait and seen the first signs of life moving to the shallows small bass / pickerel / bluegill so that's good. As I was getting ready to go I was tossing a blue senko out. Had one hand in my pocket the other on my rod and of course I got that unsuspecting tug!! Went to set the hook and it just slipped out of her mouth without ease but I did feel the weight for a quick second and she was a decent fish. Guess my first bass of open water will have to wait another day.. Ohh and that d**n wind once again.

10 to 2 today on Webster. Water temp 50.2-53.6 backwaters were warmer. Plenty windy but when you could maintain contact with the bottom for more than 2-3 seconds, you might get a bump on small rubber stuff. 2 keeper bass and a pickerel for me and a somewhat smaller bass and a perch for the little woman.

Oh and the next time you see a lamprey.....crush it's head with pliers. Where there's one, there could be enough to ruin your body of water.

If I don't snag an OT shift in the morning I'm heading to Plymouth/Carver... Dunno yet. Kayak is on truck, ready to go.

Went out on the quabbin for opening weekend and got a few nice lake trout, one was 19.5" and 2lb13oz, the other was a bit longer (didn't get length as it was a clear keeper) and weighed in at 3lb9oz.

Went out on a reservoir in westborough yesterday in search of LMB. Ended up boating 3 large mouth and a pickerel. The first two LMB were 15" and 15.5". The 3rd and final fish was a 21" fatty! I was stoked to bring her in, first good bass of the year. Wish I had a scale with me! Here are a few pics of that last bass.

Had a day off yesterday and decided to try some new water. I set my compass South West to Sampson's Pond in Carver because my neighbor said he's had good luck there. Arrived around 10:00 and , WOW, the place is big for a kayak. Spent at least half my time paddling & exploring but ended up with a PB crappie of at least a pound, a decent blue gill, and a feisty little yellow perch. All were caught on a blue gill flavored Rapala Scatter-Rap. I also threw a orange/brown Senko, Chartreuse Chatter bait, Rapala Shadow Rap, and a Kreature. I'm still waiting for my 1st 2015 bass.

My 128T tipped over while loading it on my truck and broke the plastic clips on the seat, so a quick stop @ Joanne Fabrics in Hanover supplied replacements. Figured I'd go to Jacob's Pond for a bit since it's right there. Was there about 20 minutes when I got called into work. Had a good hit on a chrome Rapala suspending minnow, but that was it.

Tonight, after work, I hit Blue Hills reservoir. Threw a chartreuse chatter bait, black w/flake Senko, and my blue gill flavored scatter rap. Zilch. I spent some time walking the whole place slowly to see if the bass made new beds since the water is so far down. I almost convinced myself the place was void of life when I saw two pretty good bass hanging out on the north west stone bank. They snubbed me by slowly swimming off. I could hear them laughing.

ADD: I forgot to mention the water temp @ Sampson's was around 57 & Jacob's was 60.

Bass laughter is a cold...cold sound. Good effort though and nice thinking outside the box on the clips.

Caught two small smallies today off a blue flavored jerk bait. I was mad a t first because I left my first spot then ten minutes later saw a little kid pull out a bass, then I hooked into my first fish.

New here to the forum (as a member). Longtime viewer. Also longtime Massachusetts Largemouth/striped bass angler. Been pretty successful too!

So after my two previous trips to my favorite honey hole (the only body of water i wont ever share the name of. Not like that at all! Just this one spot, its special to my farther and i).

Anyways..after two crappy trips out (we own an 8-foot pontoon boat with a trolling motor we use)..the third trip was unbelievable.

We caught 36 bass and 4 crappie yesterday. Nothing to rave about size wise (though there were a few 3 pounders mixed in, and one 4 or 5 pounder that got away) nonetheless just an unbelievable day fishing. I tend to have a day or two like this every May!

Anyways im typically a big advocate for the senko.. But yesterday almost all the bass were caught on a double tailed hula grub rigged on a 1/8 oz jig head. Love this setup. Can work it offshore in the open or cast it to shore or parallel to the bank and work it back to the boat nice and slowly. When i ran out of hula grubs (cuz i stupidly didnt bring enough, assuming the senko would be the ticket)..i switched to pitching a brush hog  texas rigged with a 1/8 oz weight and caught my biggest fish on that. Lots of fish were locating near a couple sets of pads that must have emerged in the past week. So i believe a combo of the warmth and and new vegetation provided for the awesome fishing day.

looking forward to sharing tips/tactics/reports with all of you and reading yours as well! Tight lines, enjoy this awesome weather.

Got the yak out on Winnecunit in Norton today for a few hours this afternoon. Was fighting some pretty rough winds for the few hours I was out there, the anchor trolley made a huge difference! Nothing note worthy to speak of, 2 small LMB (both around 12") and one average sized pickerel. All fish came on a red eye shad in the grass. Did have one toothy critter break off my black/blue jig I was throwing as well... Probably a good sized pickerel, I'm not confident it was his teeth that broke the fluoro off though, I didn't inspect it for any kinks or nicks above the lure like I usually do, oh well.

Beautiful day, I'll likely be out again tomorrow ;)
