Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 16, 2015 Super User Posted April 16, 2015 Finished work at 2:30 and had a couple hours to myself so I drove up to Blue Hills Reservoir. Â Water level is very low compared to last Fall and water temp was 52. Â Â Threw a pumpkin colored jig for a little bit because I never have. Â No bites with it, but it told me the rock shore continues much farther than I originally thought. Â It got caught between some rocks and well, is still there.... Â I tied on a Kreature for the first time, dragging & hopping it as slowly as I could across the bottom. Â It too got snagged many times but I got it back. Â There were five other folks fishing while I was there. Â Nobody caught anything that I noticed. Â The last couple of years I've not caught much there. Â I've seen people taking their catches home for dinner, and only being open since 2008 I'd have to say the bass still there are very tough to catch. Â I've also not seen many sunnies or perch there in the shallows in the last year too. Â The food supply might be small, which would cause the bass population to react accordingly. Â It's still too soon to tell for sure, it's still a nice location to stop and cast for a short spell. Quote
Mike2841 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Went out yesterday after work for trout. Hit the ipswich river, got nothing. I did spend more time exploring than fishing, also I'm not sure if they stocked it yet. Quote
BR1AN Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 They updated the trout stocking list earlier today. Didn't see Ipswich on there. Quote
grampa1114 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Gramma1114 and I went out yesterday on Webster lake for  the shakedown cruise....water temp 47 deg...just like the "Classic"... so I tried the 'underspin' lure that they used to win...........Nuthin'......what did work was 3" Sluggos with 1/16 oz non-lead jigs in alewife color......unfortunately the little woman was throwing them. After her 2.5 pickerel and 1.5 bass were 3 hours old.....I finally caught a 1lb pick and tucked my tail between my legs and went home.  The year has begun.  Grampa1114 Quote

Chris186 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Fished Cooks pond in Fall River for about 4 hours this morning. 10 in the boat, 3 came off. All were caught on 1/2 oz rattle trap, didnt get a sniff on anything else except for the toothy critter that took my jig. Water temp was 52-53, biggest fish was 3.8, smallest was probably around a pound and a half. I caught one 12" smallie that looked like it swallowed a baseball. Quote
BR1AN Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 So I finally got to spend some serious time out on the water today with a good buddy of mine. We went for the freshly stocked trout.. Why not huh? Well we pull up to the first lake in Boxford and there was a guy there who simply said good luck.. We asked if anyone was catching anything and quickly he jumped into a story. Apparently he was there when they stocked on Friday am and the guy handling the fish was very bad at it.. Dropping them into 2-3 inches of water banging off rocks etc.. A lot of them were floating on their backs. One of the guys witnessing recordered video of it. It really enrages me that happened. So with that major f up all the trout I am assuming are really stressed at the moment. We tried 2 other stocked lakes today as well and same deal nobody was catching anything. Quote
Mike2841 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Went out for trout yeaterday had a few bites, but only caught one of them. For the first time I saw EPO and had my license checked. Nice guy we chatted about fishing, he asked me for my license and then went on his way. Quote
BR1AN Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Feels good to finally land a fish. 4 rainbows today. Quote
massrob Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Went on my new kayak today and caught 2 small lmb on a red red eye shad tried everything but that's the only thing that worked. Got the tip from the kid who sold me the kayak. It is awesome to have a kayak. I can't wait til I don't have to worry about freezing to death if I fall in. Quote
Pain in the Bass Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Where abouts did paddle/fish Rob? I love my small canoe but didn't make it out this weekend - maybe next! Off to buy some red red eyed shad lures :-). Quote

Janderson45 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Nothing but two dinky LMB in two short little pond/bank fishing outings I've had so far.. Got a quabbin trip planned for this weekend, we'll see how the salmon and lakers are biting! Also got my new kayak showing up on Thursday, so can't wait to get that rigged up and wet. Going to be a good week! My thoughts are some of this warmer rain we are having and will continue to get should help liven up the fisheries a bit too? Fingers crossed. Quote

I'm coaching my son's Little League team which started March 31st and we're having our first game tomorrow. 3-4 days a week until about the second week in June. I'll be looking at this thread for advice because I'll never have time to get out prior to that.  Keep the reports coming and I hope you all have a great spring season. Quote
BR1AN Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Â Went to wenham today for trout, Never fished there before but heard they stocked yesterday. Showed up and noticed everyone covering the ramp and beach. So i walked the trail a little bit until i was on the opposite side of them. Caught 4 nice rainbows while no one else caught anything. It pays to leave the crowed! Quote
BR1AN Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 This is a Lamprey and it was attached to the belly of one of the trout like a suction cup. Never seen one in person before absolutely disgusting. Google it so u can see the mouth on these things. Quote

I don't see why not.. Only difference between an eel and this thing is the ugly ass mug. I couldn't imagine catching a 2 footer. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 25, 2015 Super User Posted April 25, 2015 Took my wife's friend's son and one of his friends to Houghton's pond today. We didn't stay more than an hour and a half because the boy's going through chemotherapy and tires quickly. The kids never fish much but they had a good go of it. Neither caught anything other than a tree where a Senko & in-line spinner now reside.Another party was fishing near by and landed a nice rainbow trout. It was rather windy, and all things considered, a great afternoon. I still think it's early for bass. I might try throwing some PowerBait on Monday and try for trout. Quote
massrob Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I've been working so much I haven't had anytime to fish. It's driving me crazy. In the meantime I've been buying all sorts of things for my kayak just got a new rod holder and these clips to put on the side to hold the paddle. I'm trying to find a lake to go to around my area. The biggest place I know of is canton reservoir and Norfolk reservoir. Does anyone know any other lakes that are good? I love being able to get on the water it changes everything. Some of the places I fishes last year I've learned so much by being able to look into the water. I found the places I would expect them to spawn. I can't wait to see a fish on a bed. I'm not sure if I will fish for them. What baits are you guys using this spring? Thanks guys Quote
