Ratherbefishing75 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 The nip in bridgewater is still all ice Quote
Ratherbefishing75 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Ok today is a good day to go fishing kinda warm and there are some lakes and ponds that are ice free Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 3, 2015 Super User Posted April 3, 2015 Here's some encouraging news for everyone: WHITMAN'S POND HAS ENOUGH OPEN WATER TO CAST FROM THE ROUTE 53 SIDE! I didn't catch anything, but got to shake the cobwebs off my favorite ML spinning and my Diawa T3 Ballistic reels for a little while.... Houghton's Pond is still frozen, but there's a 3 - 4 foot ring of water around it, so fishing season is not far away! Quote
Mike2841 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Did a lot of driving today, went to the new cabelas. Seems like some bodies of water are starting to open up really well while others are still completely frozen. The cabelas is pretty nice, smaller than bass pro. In general I feel like cabelas carries better stuff and I think this cabelas is no exception. If you're wondering if it's worth the trip I'll tell you that you won't find anything there that you can't find (probably cheaper) online, but if you're like me you probably just like looking around in those stores anyway. massrob Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Around me some ponds are open and some are completely frozen. The C harles river where I go in Dedham is flowing so fast you can even fish because it just takes your bait. I'm dying to go fishing. Thanks for the cabelas tip Mike I'm definitely going to make that trip. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 5, 2015 What a difference a couple of days make! I went to Quincy and drove through Blue Hills, Houghtons is just as DogBone reported, a nice 3' soft water ring around it and Blue Hills Res had a ring around it as well. The res in Canton had areas of fishable water from shore as well. This week with the rain and warmer weather coming in should make a real difference! Quote
massrob Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I caught my first fish of the year today at my favorite pond. It was frozen two days ago I couldn't believe it was open. It was a 2 lber on a sebile squarebill sunfish and I actually lost it there last year and it was floating in the water so I grabbed it and tied it on. 2 casts and it got inhaled. I gotta change the hooks but it was in pretty good shape for being in there the whole winter. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 7, 2015 Super User Posted April 7, 2015 Congratulations on you're 1st '15 bass. I drove to Bass Pro in Foxboro and Cabelas in Berlin (you're not missing much there, but that's another thread) to see what's what. Though Houghton's Pond is still mostly frozen, I noticed all the waters I passed along 495 and the Pike were open. It's coming very soon. I'm not working today, so I might drive to Plymouth to see if Little Pond & BIllington Sea are still frozen. ADD: Billington Sea and all but the North 20% of Little Pond are open. Whitman's and Jacob's Ponds are still solid, but looking very slushy. If weather gets to the 60s over the weekend as forecasted, we'll be good to go. Quote
BR1AN Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Congrats Rob Drove around today in Haverhill and one of the ponds is frozen except for the edges. Good thing is it looks like ITE only a coating of ice doesn't look thick at all. Another real small pond in the area is half defrosted and more than enough room to cast. So I am hoping this will be the week I nab my first of 2015! Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 Get ready boys & girls Already planning for Monday if I can't snag an extra shift or side job.... can't wait.... Quote

This would be my first trip down with a boat here to bass fish it only trout fished it from shore in past. Just wondering if anybody had any imput if it was a good idea or not. I assume it open water or mostly open by now down there. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 11, 2015 Author Super User Posted April 11, 2015 Haven't been by there, but as far as I can see, if Houghton's is open, that will be. grampa and I fished that and I can't imagine that being iced out and not Houghton's? MHO anyway. I'd say go for it and good luck? Quote
BR1AN Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Fished for about 5 hours yesterday. Through everything I had at them with no luck. Was windy as a wretched yesterday to. I hate wind.. I rather fish pouring rain to be honest. 1 Quote

Water temperatures were in the mid 40s. Houghton's should be pretty well open in castable areas. Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 13, 2015 Super User Posted April 13, 2015 Got the kayak in at Jacob's Pond in Norwell this morning. Water temp at 8:30 was 48, by 1:00 when I left is was 51. I threw a brass in-line spinner, chartreuse spinner bait, a couple different Rapalas and a t-rigged U-tail worm in gourd green (my best performer). Managed only one small pickerel on a suspending Rapala yellow perch(jerking and pausing it). Can't complain for a first day out. It got too windy for baitcasting, luckily I brought a spinning setup with me. 1 Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 14, 2015 Super User Posted April 14, 2015 Had free afternoon so out to Whitman's Pond I went. I started between 10-20' deep areas, moved to 5-10', then middle ground @ 12-15'.Stayed somewhat near points and the couple spots I caught fish last Summer. Used in-line spinner, chartreuse chatter bait, a couple different Rapalas, and a Fat Ika (my 1st one, figured 'what the heck').Managed one Pickerel on a suspending Rapala, working it as I did @ Jacob's Pond.Water temp ranged between 48 - 50 degrees. The Lowrance didn't reveal much in the way of fish, even on the drop offs and areas I've seen them before. Perhaps they're still in the deepest part of the pond, which is 20-27' in the channel coming from the rte 53 side. Quote
Janderson45 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Glad to see people back fishing! Wanted to get on here and see if anyone was doing any catching yet and what water temps looked like. I'll probably try out a bit of bank fishing in the next few days just to wet a line. Happy to report that I just placed an order for a new 2015 wilderness systems ride 115x, can't wait to get out on the water in that bad boy! Hopefully next week it'll be here Quote
BostonMahhk Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Fished a tourney on Wequaquet on Sunday. 20 boats and nobody came in with a limit. Winner had about 12lbs I believe and 4th place had 2 small rats. I didn't catch any bass but I did manage to catch my first northern pike that was about 3ft long. Hell of a fight. I have the Mass State Team tourney open Saturday on Lake Cochituate. If anyone has any info on Cochituate from this year let me know how it is. Quote
BostonMahhk Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Temps Sunday on Wequaquet were between 45-47 bye if that helps anyone. Quote
