gjfisher Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 New PB today! 6.4 on a rage swimmer on an underspin. The big girls are definitely biting now. I am not catching many fish these days but the quality has improved. On my last trip two days ago, I had a 4.8 and two 3's. 6 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Went out back on the boat to find some late season schoolies. Mission was fish on my 10 foot ultra light, salmon/steelie noodle rod, and my ice rod. Got a handful on zoom flukes and albies snax. Fished along the flooded marsh. So much fun. Going back today. Gota get em while they are still here. 3 Quote
GSil Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Hit Whitman's pond on the yak for my lunch break at work yesterday, from 12-2pm. Couldn't avoid the skunk and didn't even get so much as nibble. been tough outing my last few trips Quote

I figure at this time of year we are in the typical fall patterns but man it’s frustrating not getting bites when this time of year is supposed to be so productive 1 Quote

Seems like that "hot bite" just hasn't happened yet, at least for me. But the timing and water temps are getting right down to where it should be happening. I'm split between investing in the swimbaits for the next month to try and end the year on a couple big fish or to try and dial in some sort of fall pattern and maybe have some killer numbers days on spinnerbaits or something. It's supposed to be cold next week and full moon on Halloween (spooky haha). I wonder if that will really fire them up? 1 Quote

I think a cold front is going through Saturday night and Sunday is gonna be like 20 degrees cooler than Saturday. I’m supposed to fish that day and it will probs be tough with the cold front passing through (Naturally) but again, I think you’re right....as the week progresses it’s going to be consistent cool weather and maybe that will trigger something. I’ll report back on how I do on Sunday. Also gonna try and fish during the week to really test that cool weather and the full moon! 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted October 24, 2020 Super User Posted October 24, 2020 My dad and I hit webster today. 9 straight hours...not even 1 bass. I'm honestly at a loss. Our worst day this year, and the first time ever on that lake without a bass. 1 Quote

I thought today would be great and I was wishing I was on the water. I’m going tomorrow but will see how that is lol..... Quote

Same here, I figured right before the front, overcast, windy, crashing barometric pressure would be lights out. That's why I'm so stumped. We tried shallow coves with typical power fishing techniques like spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, I had some swimbaits going too. We tried the deeper areas where we usually see baitfish schooled up thinking they might be deeper. I avoided the skunk with a decent pickerel but other than that nothing. We marked some bait balls but not much activity around them. I dropshotted and used a tail spin around those areas with no interest other than pesky perch. Idk we missed some detail I just don't know what. Idk it was just one of those days where you think you've got it all figured out and a solid plan and then nature hands you a big ole heaping tray of humble pie. 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 Went out to my usual spots. Little shore mission. Got a nice little brookie at spot 1. spot 2 was hoping to see the juvy herring stacked up. But they were no where to be found. Got a perch. spot 3 I haven’t been to in awhile. Got a few pickerel, perch and 2 bass. Most were on the jerkbait, but I got a few perch and pickerel on a jig I tied. Quote

Caught a pickerel with a Keitech and underspin. Was using a squarebill around lay downs but a bit weedy so switched to a black and blue jig and landed a decent bass off a downed tree, maybe 2.5 lbs? Felt good to avoid the skunk and get a decent bass today although would’ve liked more fish. I was in a kayak and had to paddle a ways so I’m sure if I was in a boat (which I don’t have lol) or on a smaller body of water I would’ve had a decent bag. Definitely encouraging! Curious how I’ll do this week..... 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted October 25, 2020 Super User Posted October 25, 2020 @Styguy922 Good to hear! Personally I can't stand Cochituate. I'm sure there's good fish to be had but I've never caught them. I've never done well for size OR numbers there. Quote

Yeah it was actually my first time there so I can’t say otherwise....I’m trying to find a decent spot not too far from Boston I can consistently go to but the search continues. Grew up in northern MA which obviously isn’t far but live in Boston for work so have limited time to spend driving to places to fish Quote
gjfisher Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Fished Saturday morning for 3-4 hours. Caught 3 bass and 1 rainbow trout, all by bouncing a molting craw colored ned rig with 1/10 oz head in shallow water near some rocks. Nothing else worked. What a strange fall! Normally this time of the year, I would be throwing square bills, lipless, jerk bait, blade bait and catching bass. This year, none of those worked for me yet. What worked for me this fall, kind of, were baits that I had been throwing since mid summer, like topwater, swimbait and ned. I did have some brief success throwing 1/2 oz spinnerbaits in white color with swimbait trailers on windy days, but that's it. I wonder if these patterns will change in the coming days as weather cools. Tight lines! 2 Quote
JAB50 Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Caught these fish on a Cape pond, during Columbus week. Forgot my wading pants in the truck, and our trolling motor battery blew a cell/crapped out. The largemouth was close to 5lbs and the smallie was 4lbs. 3 Quote
JAB50 Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 All fish were caught on a 1/4oz Texas rigged creature bait(green pumpkin). Caught fish everyday, but those were my two biggest for the week. Caught most fish on this and Ned rigs, senkos and spinnerbait. The jig, chatterbaits, crankbaits and top water bite was non existent. My brother caught a few on the same baits and the dropshot and the beast coast miyagi swinmbait. Water was in the mid 60’s. Crazy. I’ll be back up to Mass. for thanksgiving week, and thcape fishing. Maybe the normal fall bite will be then. Quote

It ended up being a pretty textbook fall session, water temps down to 61-62 and largemouth still in deeper water off the bank (10-15ft) relating to a mix of vegetation and rock. We managed a dozen or so keepers, two 4lbers in the mix that both bit a jig marinated on outside weedlines. Got a couple more fun bites on jerkbaits (slower cadence) and the chatterbait as the wind picked up out of the north. Pickerel were plenty active as well. Bass bite should only improve from here as temps get into the mid-50s... Is that a beast coast jig? Lol I swear I saw that pic on their IG story. Either way, nice bass and glad you had a great outing! Quote

GSil Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Last night I hit Furnace Pond in pembroke with my cousin from about 6-9pm, not even a nibble for either of us. I was throwing out a jig, chatterbait, senko, and a frog. He was tossing out a little spoon and a t-rigged craw. Oh well, hoping to find the bite soon lol. Quote
Don51 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 That’s surprising. Crappie and white perch should have been crushing that spoon! Sounds like a weird fall bite going on. ? Quote
JAB50 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 I also have several of the beast coast lil hustler jigs. They are really nice. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 29, 2020 Super User Posted October 29, 2020 Anyone know what these might be? I found them in a small pond in Braintree just off a steep drop off. The best I could pull off of them was a LMB that MIGHT have been 1/2 a pound....? Gonna have to figure out a way to get a side imaging transducer rigged up on my yak! Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted October 31, 2020 Super User Posted October 31, 2020 Those are some really cool images @DogBone_384 The first one's I might have said some tree limbs but that last one almost seems man made. It's quite large though not likely something someone sunk as artificial cover. Got out today just to experience fishing with the snow covered shorelines. I thought there might be a decent jerkbait bite but couldn't manage any of that. I did get absolutely CRUSHED on a Hudd 68 though. I was just creeping it on bottom in maybe 12 FOW over some small rocks and I mean this thing got hammered. I missed the fish but I got the bait back and it had gashes on it's cheek and a decent chunk almost got taken out of the side of it's head. Not like pickerel teeth marks though which are usually nice and clean. To me it was like a bass tried to absolutely freight train it into the bottom to kill it. I've never felt a bite like that though. I was barely paying attention at that point cause I was fishing so slow and it kinda scared me back awake haha. Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Fished 5p-1a. It was a grind, 2 spots. Couldn’t find any biggons. All small fish biggest just shy of 3. 7 inch slammer, mini slammer and G2 shellcracker got the job done. Got a few crappies on the shell cracker as well. Spot 1 they were all in the inlet area. Spot 2 they were in the coves . Got about 8 fish Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted November 7, 2020 Super User Posted November 7, 2020 I thought this weather might be a good thing but I just went two straight days of skunking ?♂️ Quote
