I wonder if we should edit the title to this thread as just "MA Fishing Reports" and get our central and western fishing friends on here?

Sorry all, I'm bored and counting the days down to vacation. 2 work days left and I'm off til next year...

never got out this weekend =(.  Ended up putting a water heater in, Sunday was crappy so football it is.  Thats the last chance I've got for a few weeks to fish, NH this weekend, a wedding the weekend after.  At least I'll be having fun on the weekends.

I would be fantastic if the sun would stay out a little longer so I can fish after work.

Only three days to go and the days will be getting longer.  Your wish will be granted.

This is when the depression sets in.  Driving around this morning and there is skim ice everywhere.

You too. I’m likely hitting Hedges in Plymouth. It’s only 25-ish acres and has smallies & yellow perch that average 2 and 1 pounds, respectively.

I pulled into Hedges Pond park and found the pond 75% iced over!  Total bummer.  I drove down the road to Great Herring, which was wide open.  Great Herring is a BIG chunk of water for a kayak, but off I went, throwing a gold blade bait, brown/yellow hair jig, and goldish Rage Tail Menace.

Water temps settled in at low 37.x.  Great Herring is a pretty windy place, and today was on/off windy.  All in all I marked fish sporadically and landed one yellow perch off a point in about 12' of water on the gold blade bait.  That'll do it for 2018.

All said and done, I averaged just under 3 fish per outing and was shut out 19 times.  My average weight is somewhere around two pounds, likely just under.  I had a couple fours and a bunch of threes, but overall two-ish pounds is my most common weight.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the membership.

Let's nail down a date for a group lunch and talk about 2018 & 2019.

Cold water today but no ice on my deep water go to. One nice perch and one near 3 pound smallie both on a 3/8 oz vmc neon moon eye with a 3.3 keitech fat swing impact. No skunk! It’s been a hell of a year a lot of memorable fish and memorable days.

I may get out Saturday. I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and I want to thank everyone on this thread for their input and information. I’m glad to be in the company of bass junkies like myself ✌️

After tomorrow I think most lakes in Eastern MA will be fishable again (RIP ice). I will probably try and get out Sunday and Monday. Fingers crossed for Saturday it's supposed to be over 50 but they're saying 15-20mph which is a no for me in the kayak any time of year, but especially December lol.

My year was slow! 2 fish over 5 this year! 5.9 and 6.13! The spring was super slow!  Summer was good at one particular spot! Bunch of 3s and 4s no fish over 5 here! Lost 2 big fish one day here!  Saltwater fishing was horrible! The big fish were there but I couldn’t get em! Did get a few keepers this year biggest was 35 inches!  Went for pike one day! Had a few good whacks got 1 10lber!

Went to Florida in April! So happy that I went! I’ve only been to Disney! So finally got to fish down there!  It’s differnt the what I’m used to! We were confident in fishing down there but we were humbled! DRove down with 2 deaf people!  It was a quiet car ride! Lmao! Caught a Pleco catfish, 2 types of tilapia, snook, sea trout, gar, can’t remember what else! Saw sea turtles, manatees!

Went to upstate Ny twice!  The first time was awesome! Caught some nice stealhead, brown trout, Atlantic salmon, king salmon, rock bass, gobies, white perch! Lost some absolute giant fish! Salmon and trout! So d**n big it will haunt my dreams!

The second time we went! It was a bit slower! I only caught king salmon! My buddies did better with browns and steelhead. The water condionts sucked! Dark and high!

Fishin dropped off and it got slow and hard since I’ve been back from Ny

What are your goals for 2019??

1) break 8lbs for largemouth. This is a huge goal for me, been hunting this fish for a few years.  My PB is 7.8lbs northern strain largemouth  caught in MA

2) I highly doubt that I will ever catch a 7lbs smallie, but my PB is 6.9 MA smallie, I could tell you before I caught that, I was sayin "I highly doubt I'd break 6lbs"

3) MY FIRST TUNA!!! THIS IS SUPER HIGH ON MY BUCKETLIST!!!!!!  I've been dreaming of this day for  a while, I've gone out after them seen them, never hooked up. Even when casting into blitzing tuna. I dont have the means of getting out after tuna. I need richer friends hahaha!!

4) MY FIRST FRIGGIN COHO!!!!!!!! Been going to Upstate NY for a few years now, Dying for my first coho, I wish I could fish up there more often to increase my chances, but a 7-8 hour drive is a very long drive. I may have hooked one and lost one this past fall. COULDNT REACH IT WITH THE NET AHHHHHHH, so close to landing this fish, one last run, GOODBYE!!!!! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE ITS A COHO, HAHAHAHAH.

5) 20lb pike, just got to put in time on the right locations.

6) The most important cuz with this I increase my chances for an 8lbs largemouth, 7lbs smallie and 20lbs pike.
A JOHN BOAT!!!!  This will change my fishing for ever! I fish out of a kayak and HATE IT.

7) A 10lb carp, put time into the right locations.

8 ) A BETTER JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  that way I can afford a better boat and be able to get tuna, and all the other saltwater fish I havent caught yet.

I can keep going with this list, these are the most important, I have a lot of local fish I'm  dying to catch but dont have a way of getting out to them. Living on the ocean with a boat that you cant do much on is tough. I can only stay in close to shore.

For me it's mostly to stay more disciplined, I've definitely gotten more patient and have found myself more willing to slow down and fish an area or try a slower retrieve which has definitely helped the past couple years, but I still find myself going to my "favorite" lures when the fishing is slow.

As far as fish, I'd like to break 6lbs for northern strain. I got a 6.5 when I was down in Virginia but something about catching a hybrid strain in a private lake during the spawn felt wrong lol.

Good luck dude. You’ll get em! No doubt! I fish slow all the time, rather it’s a jig,a swimbait, jerkbait,

topwater, what ever, slower then “normal”. I’ve caught 3 7lbs fish in MA. Many over 6! I need an 8! I’m getting in the mindset to get that 8! I’m hunting that fish.

Goals for 2019

First thing I’d like to do is to try and meet up with you guys for lunch. I’ve been to a few fishing get togethers in the past mostly prior to this thread. It’d be nice to get back into it.

Secondly: Just hoping to get back to fishing again. I didn’t even get a license in 18 knowing I’d never make it out and based on my past 3 or 4 years lack of outings I’ll be basically starting all over again.

Maintaining my workout program. It’ll help me for when I do go fishing. Especially if I get s kayak.

Merry Christmas

How's January 12th at the Redwing Diner on Rte 1 in Walpole?

I'm gonna dig out the gear again tomorrow and either try my luck from shore or bring a couple setups and try for a few hours in my kayak. We'll see if the wind calms down at all from today though. Looks like next weekend is supposed to be almost an exact repeat....warm rain Friday and sunny and warm on Saturday. Nature can't seem to make up her mind! As long as there's either safe ice or open water I won't complain though.

Both of these weekends I can’t fish! NH this weekend a wedding next weekend! Hoping that the weekend after next will be warm! I NEED TO FISH
