Did you catch that in Medford/stoneham mass????  Looks like spot pond in the background

Fished that place plenty.  There some gd ones in there, but they're few and far between, try it at night some time.  You'll like it.

Caught my first bass of the season on Thursday before the storm. The fish was a tank which was shocking as the pond I caught it at is a dink factory. I don't think I've broken a pound and a half at this pond before. Hopefully, this means a good spring is in store!

Fished that place a quite a few times, used to live right up the street.  Some gd ones in there but few and far between.  Try it at night some time with a canoe, used to be decent after midnight.

I used to fish all the little ponds there when I was younger with my dad. Great fish and congrats on it being early March. Now that I know it's open water in Middlesex county I am going to have to make a trip to some of my honey holes

Went out for a quick shore mission!  Got my first good fish of the year! I’m soook happy! Caught it on a swimbait slow reeled up a drop off with pauses during my retrieve! Fish hit after a pause!

Field Pond in Harold Parker (North Reading

Sounds like I need to pack my travel rod on my MC and take a ride when it warms up a little ...

Better yet, is there anywhere to launch a kayak?

Yes, I park right off Harold Parker Rd near rt. 125 and they have an easy spot to launch your kayak.

I'll definitely have to try that. I need to get out night fishing more this year.

Before heading over here to Mdlsx county please be aware that due to the crazy weather many of the waters that were open are now skimmed over again. Was out and about yesterday between Ayer and Hudson and saw more ice than I have in a couple weeks.

If there is a particular place you have in mind, and it's not too far East of me I'd be happy to try and put eyes on it for you.

PM me if you like.

With the wife and daughter working this weekend I had some time to fish.  Drove down to Hedges Pond in Plymouth yesterday.  Caught 4 SMB, lost one, and had a really nice looking one follow a JDM lipless I'd never used before back to the kayak.  Surprisingly the gold Binsky bait didn't catch anything but the yellow perch Rapala DT6 was popular.  The four that made it to my kayak weighed in right at two pounds +-.  Water temps were down a little from my last visit, sitting in at 42.x - 43.x.

My local (IAFF 792) spent some time helping folks clean out their yards from last week's storm today and luckily finished early enough to fish Ponkapog in Canton for a couple hours.  Water temps were down eight degrees since my last trip here, coming in at 38.x - 39.x.  I tossed the same Yozuri 3DB prism shad square bill and came up with a nice 3-2 LMB and a couple pickerels.  The bigger pickerel was nice enough to unhook itself right at the kayak, thank you.

My kayak is packed up and tools and snow shovels are in the back of my truck.  So far it's been a very good 2018.

With these freakin nor'easters I think I'm a few weeks off again. There is a place in Ayer right near a set of train tracks I'm almost positive it's called plowshop.but it has produced some monsters.

I also want to get on the concord river near Bedford where I grew up too.

You're correct, Plowshop is just behind the Ayer District Court, as is Grove pond. They do have some monsters in there BUT.... please be warned that you should never take any fish from those waters for eating. Plowshop/Grove once had leather tanneries on them so the chemical waste has contaminated everything. I hear tell from one of my old timers that folks have found some disturbing critters in that water (frogs with two heads, highly deformed fish) I was also warned for all reasons above to wear gloves so your skin is protected....use of a fish gripper is recommended. Sad isn't it?

If you come down this way there are several other great bass ponds without the hazmat issues. Badacook in Groton,  Knopps pond also in Groton - both are popular tournament waters. Lake Shirley is very productive, and another popular tournament lake, but also very busy with boat traffic, jet skis etc.

As for the Nor'easter barreling down on us just saw the totals for the Rt 495 area are increasing...again! We went from a scant 5-9 inches yesterday to....drum roll please...12-16+ Ugh!!!!!! Possibly 20+ for some of us.

On that note I'm going to resume hugging my tackle boxes and praying to the sun and Fish gods!

Stay safe everyone!

If it makes you feel any better we actually got snow down here in Virginia from that storm too

I’m off to a great start this year, so a foot of snow is fine by me.  It’ll melt in a week an I’ll be back at it.

Though any snow down south shuts down the entire town.  I experienced such in Nashville years ago.

Some of us on this thread had a meet & greet lunch at the Red Wing Diner on Route 1 in Walpole last year.

We're doing it again on April 15th at 1:00 PM.

Let me know if you're coming.  If we get a good number of folks I'll make a reservation.

I'm planning on being there.  A good time to share notes and make new contacts.  We've got a lot of territory covered from Cape Cod, southeast MA and a good bit of central MA.

I was all set for the 14th but can't do the 15th.  Enjoy, I'll be there in spirit.

Not "Eastern" but Wachusett Res and Watershed

Dead slow until yesterday morning, very active smashing TW Frogs and Lizzy before 7:30 after that SF DK worm was getting good action on DS. Big was 3.4 w/ average of just under 2. Going to head out that way in a few and hit the rail trail area near the pumphouse. Couple things I wanted to ask. for work I am being forced to stay closer to Boston for on call durty for a few weeks in July far away from my area of comfort. Any easy suggestions around the city or inside 495?

Hi DrewD44!

Nice to see another angler from my neighborhood!

Please forgive the question, but you mention Wachusett reservoir in your post, are you currently wetting a line there? I'm really hoping I misunderstood the gist of your post because Wachusett doesn't officially open until April 1st.

I'd hate to see you get bagged by the EP's

Went to the usual spot at the Charles River to see if there were any striped bass, but no luck. Tried for largemouth bass as well with jerkbaits, jigs, chatterbaits, but nothing. I will try again at the end of March when the weather settles down a bit.

As of right now you can count me in.... do we get to go play at BPS for dessert? ?

Where do you launch your kayak at Ponkapoag?  I can't find a parking lot/access point on google earth.

Welcome to the forum.

The parking/launch is off Randolph street right next to Temple David.  It’s a rough, dirt parking area you’d drive right by if you aren’t looking for it.

You’ll need a cart to get to the water.  There’s a fire gate at the end of the parking area.

You might find me there tomorrow. I haven’t decided if I’m hunting SMB or LMB.

I drive an orange Tundra with a BassResource sticker and paddle a blue camo Lure 11.5.
