Super User MassYak85 Posted March 10 Super User Posted March 10 Pulled the trigger on a new Tatula. I had an 8 year old one that was my workhorse reel and finally had to retire it lol. I pulled it apart and the two levelwnd bearings were not just rusted, but somehow fused to the worm gear. I destroyed both bearings, the worm gear itself, and the plastic housing trying to get it apart. Oh well, it had a good life and I've got other tatulas and fuegos I can use the parts on. Called Daiwa and unfortunately they don't make that specific worm gear anymore. 2 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 12 Super User Posted March 12 The parking lot was full at my favorite Plymouth pond so I moved around to another small one I've only fished a couple times. I managed two decent picks. The first on a perch lipless and the second on a green/chartreuse Senko sitting still in about 15'. A bladed jig, jerkbait, crank, jig, and paddle tail on an underspin produced nada.  Winds were stiff at 15+ mph from the S. Water temps were 44.x, and air pressure was 29.8. 2 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted March 12 Posted March 12 First kayak trip of the year. Felt good. But my back hurts, i forgot the seat. Bit uncomfortable. They only wanted a the jerkbait. Got one bass missed a good one , snagged a suckah, and got 2 jumbo yellas. Really surprised no pickerel especially at this place on a jerkbait. Â They were shallow on the wind blown side. 6 Quote

Talking with a buddy on the south shore it seems your waters opened up at least a week before the north shore, likely longer since he said there was no ice in sight and mine was still from shore to shore with wet cracks.  I think I'm gonna try to hit a bank in central MA tonight, think I might only bring a jerkbait.  If you had about 300 yards of rocky bank to hit tonight, and you could only bring one lure what would it be? Quote

TheSwearingAngler Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Got out for a couple hours Saturday morning.. water was 45 degrees on one side of the pond 50 on the other.  As far as I’m concerned Spring is here.      1 Quote
MassBass Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Hold over rainbows are hittin. Got my limit last weekend, I think for sure could have gotten more bites. I'm going to keep hitting trout for March. Quote
ne_dan Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Got out this afternoon after work.  Only managed two bass, but they went 4.25lbs and 3lbs.  Both came on a crankbait in about 5-6’ of water.   I forgot to check the batteries on my trolling motor remote, so I was stuck fighting the wind trying to stay on spots.   3 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Bite sucked, it was cold, raw and windy. Only got 2 dinks and 2 pickerel on a jerkbait, couple other whacks. Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 21 Super User Posted March 21 I took the Ranger to Plymouth for a shake down before my Cape trip. I started at the north end with a bladed jig, blade bait, wacky Senko, PBJ jig, V110+1 jr, lipless, and 3.8" Keitech on underspin. Marked little or nothing around 2/3 of the pond. I saw a some topwater action in 12' near a steep point but it turned out to be a school of yellow perch. I finished the day at the south end on a 10-12' flat. I managed two good picks on a red/orange 6th Sense square bill with a third good pick follower.  Winds were light from the SW, and air pressure was 29.9.   Not what I'd hoped for, but I've not caught much here in the last few years. I'll take the two picks instead of a skunk. Vegetation and fresh water clams aren't what they used to be.  I'll be on the Cape from the 21st to 29th with my Ranger, hoping for some decent fish, but the forecast is less than favorable, with very high winds and below normal temps much of the week. Carver Plymouth  I got out yesterday, again random fish. Got one early on the bama rig continue fishing dead, , then I picked up another fish on a jerkbait off a dock. 2 dink bass. Keeping the streak going, slow bites, 2 dink fish. I fished lipless, swimbaits, under spins, bama rig,  jerkbaits, tubes, jigs. Still can’t figure out these d**n fish. My buddy said the water was 50  gotta love when I come home from fishing only to find out people smashing big bass!  1 Quote
1984isNOW Posted March 22 Posted March 22 @Mr. Aquarium okay yeah, I remember us talking about getting together last year, or the season before but my memory is like a bowl of lightbu... what was I saying...  Anyway, I'm planning to really put in some work on bigger baits that I know your prone to throwing. I have a few swimbaits and wakebaits that have been collecting dust. Wondering if you'd still like to sync up  Now that I think of it I'm pretty sure @TheSwearingAngler said something towards the end of the season last year about trying to find some fish together too  We should just get a bunch of us together and do an Eastern MA Bassresource Meet up once the spring kicks in just a little bit more.  Anybody interested in something like this this season? GitInMuhBoat Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Hit up a couple of spots on Pemaquid in Maine today, first outing of the year. Looking for Brookies, hoping for an incidental Bass. Both locations I was using an yellow/red inline spinner and white senko dragging very slow. First was a private location with a cove that was still surrounded by ice. No deeper than 5ft. Result to be expected given the depth, skunk. Second spot was the public boat launch which, for the first day this year, was completely ice-free. About 10-15ft at casting distance from the shore. Same result. Saw 4 baldies hanging out on remaining ice bergs and 3 Canadian geese buzzing the tower, so I'm not calling it a total wash but it was skunk town. 2 Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted Sunday at 10:29 AM Super User Posted Sunday at 10:29 AM @Saltysmalljaws and I hit the Cape yesterday.  We started deep where the smallies winter but only came up with small perch.  We moved to the far north end and found everyone shallow.  I caught two SMB, just over 2 pounds, and one rainbow.  A Berkely Stunna jerkbait and unknown brand square bill did the trick.  Jake caught a couple picks, LMB, and a rainbow on a jerkbait. We also saw our first Osprey of the season, so it’s officially SPRING.  Water temps were 44.x in the south pond and 48.x in the north end.  Air pressure was 29.8 in the morning and 29.6 when I left in the late afternoon.  I talked with another boat coming off the water.  They said they did well.   Good luck to everyone getting out.  It looks like the bass are waking up! 1 Quote

1984isNOW Posted Sunday at 01:39 PM Posted Sunday at 01:39 PM @Mr. Aquarium @DogBone_384 Sweet! IDK if it would be easier to try to squeeze something in April with or just wait till better weather is definitely here and even if the day we pick is rainy it would be a warm summer rain? Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted Wednesday at 11:06 PM Super User Posted Wednesday at 11:06 PM I fished Mash-Wake 4X since Saturday.  Saturday was the only day I caught anything worth anything.  I managed a swimbait sized SMB on a blade bait late Tuesday, and other than that it was pain and suffering.  I marked little or nothing, threw 67% of the Tackle Warehouse catalog in deep, shallow, and in the middle.  Water temps were 46.x - 47.x.  It was nice but chilly yesterday, cold and drizzly today until the afternoon when the sun finally came out.  Hopefully it’ll warm up next week.  If it does, you’ll find me somewhere shallow.  These big deep waters make my head ache this time a year… Quote
1984isNOW Posted Wednesday at 11:10 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:10 PM I know they say it's more about the season and daylight, but below 50° still just feels like the fish are asleep Quote
