Got out after work today for a couple of hours on a smallish lake, weird algae bloom going on hopefully it’s not blue green algae.  I hadn’t been there since spring (even though it’s 5mins from my house) so I idea what’s been going on with the lake.  

It was another day where the only thing they wanted was a jig.  Majority of the fish were offshore on isolated rock piles and on rocks at the end of points.  Did pretty good number wise, biggest was a hair under 3lbs.   So far this has been a very good fall.

Got down to my favorite kettle in Plymouth for a couple hours late this afternoon. I couldn’t find any smallies, but the perch were biting.  My biggest went 1.3 pounds.

 

Water temps were 62.x

Got out for an hour and half tonight before getting chased off by some downpours.  Went back to the same lake as Wednesday, split the limited time between deep offshore rocks and remaining weed lines/pads.  Managed 13 bass, biggest went 4.3lb off some rocks in 17ft dragging a football jig.  You can all most call your shot as soon as you feel the jig hit the rocks.  This is my first year having side view on my kayak and it’s been worth it’s weight in gold for finding offshore structure.

These last minute warm spells in the Fall usually spell some awful fishing in my experience, but I'm going to go out tomorrow and try anyways haha. Anyone else find the same thing?

Yeah, I'm going out all day tomorrow.  Will probably try a few Metrowest small lakes/ponds.  Don't have high hopes, but it should be a nice day anyways (beats working).  The lack of any decent wind is really what has me discouraged.

 

I'm a lot more excited about Sunday's forecast.  Heavy clouds, low 50's, steady light rain and a NE wind.  Those are my type of conditions for fall fishing.

I got out on Monday and Wednesday on my kayak.  Fish were still where they’ve been for the last couple of weeks.  Water temp hasn’t changed much but it was early in the warm up.  I’ll be out Sunday morning on a river before the rain comes down.  Might be one of the last outing in the kayak for the year if the weather keeps trending colder.  Then it’ll be time to take out the float tube.  
 

I might get out for an hour or so on Saturday on the outer Cape after visiting my parents.

Your season won’t be over if you have family on the Cape.

 

It’s not frozen over there in the last few years.  I fish on my boat & kayak year round as long as there’s open water.

 

Blade baits are your friend when the water gets cold.

Temp is supposed to approach 80! Get out there! Probably won’t see it again this year!  🤔

I got down to @Fishing Rhino's home pond on Thursday (solo, Tom hurt his hand & can't fish right now).  It was the same story as my last trip: soft baits weren't doing anything and my faithful perch Rapala Shadow Rap was the big winner.  Pickerel were the most active, with a few LMB and two nice black crappie made it to the kayak. 

 

I went to another pond in Westport after Tom's home pond and the story was the same.  I had to force the bite.  More pickerel than bass.

 

I got to my home pond in Canton for a couple hours yesterday.  Vegetation was still pretty healthy and very abundant.  It wasn't until the 8th inning I found a 3.99, 20" Larry on a Seibert Outdoors chatterbait.  

 

It was very bluebird-ish both days.  Water temps were in the low 60's in Westport and mid 60's in Canton.  Air pressure was 30.2 on Thursday and 30 yesterday.  

 

Water temps are still a few degrees warmer than this time of year in '22 and '21.

Fished a new pond today. Pain in the arse to get to. Far drag with the kayak. But I’ve been wanting to fish it for years.  Caught all my fish out deep. Most of them were on my hand tied jigs.  They were chewing them. Missed a few fish.  Got one on a 3:16 mission fish few whacks on that.  Got one on a Berkley underspin a rage swimmer combo. Got one on a tube jig. Missed a fish on BiCO jig with a beast coast trailer. Couple of missed fish on a real prey. 
 

bright sunny clear water. Fish weren’t shallow. All deep where you can’t see bottom. No idea what I had for depth and water temps. No fish finder on my yak. Always fishing blind

Got out most of the day on Friday in the kayak on a small Metrowest lake.  Fished from 7am-3pm.  Water temps around 60 degrees most of the day.  Numbers were just okay for a long day, but I got a 5.7 and 5.1 on a hump out in 15' of water.  Both fish slammed my a-rig a few cranks into the retrieve.  Probably got another 7 or 8 fish between 1-2lbs as well.  Most of the small fish were on a Chatterbait around grass.  Few on a lipless. 

 

Hit the local reservoir this morning (no boats allowed) and smashed the dinks for a few hours before a family bday party.  Place is notorious for small fish.  Probably landed 25 fish and the biggest might have gone 1.5lbs.  Many less than a pound.  Jerkbaits, lipless and jigs did all the work.  I did manage a nice 4.7lb larry on a Chatterbait right as I was leaving, so that was cool.  I usually have to catch about 100 dinks over several trips before I catch a 3-5lb bass here.

Did a float with a friend on a western MA river. Started well with two fish in the first half hour but then the front came in and the remaining 3.5 hours were just pounding the banks with only one follow to show for it. Sure is nice to have a someone to run the net for you!

The weekend is looking very seasonal. Some wind on Friday I'm hoping that and the low overnight temps gets them into a good feeding mood. I'm gonna go out for a solo session.

I checked off November with a morning trip to my favorite little Plymouth kettle.  Two smallies chomped on a Hot Mustard DT8, one perch played cannibal with a perch V110+1 jr.. 

A second perch, almost as big as the smallies, pounced on a 4" watermelon/copper/orange Senko.

 

One of my SMB was caught before.  It had a worm hook stuck through its tongue almost to the throat.  

 

I'm still on track to catch bass in open MA water in every month this year again.  Hopefully Mother-Nature will cooperate.  Water temps were 58.x.  Winds were 5 - 10 mph from the NE and air pressure was 29.9.

That water temp is just getting into the sweet spot. I always found mid - upper 50's wakes the fish up for a final push of heavy feeding. Once they drop into the 40's it slows down dramatically.

The 34" Pike I got a couple weeks ago was caught at the end of the major period at 2:30 in the afternoon...

Went out today...managed one dink.

 

The lake I fished was 49-52 degrees and has a shallow north basin and a deeper south basin. Well the entire south basin looked like chocolate milk, and this is usually a very clear lake. So I'm guessing it had just turned over. Sucks but can't do good every time out. Couldn't even force a jerkbait bite in the northern part that seemed to be normal conditions. My lone fish came on a chatterbait off a windblown shore. Didn't even see fish besides that one. To not even have perch or pickerel tapping/following baits is just crazy.

Disappointing trip this morning from 7am-12:30pm.  Water was 51-53 degrees.  Perfect conditions with heavy clouds and a steady 6-8mph wind.  Got a few decent bass in the mid 2's early on a Chatterbait.  Thought it was going to be a good day.  Then I preceded to catch about 100 pickerel on various moving baits and never saw another bass.  Catching a few is fun but this was frustrating....
