I don't think the recreational fisherman can sell, believe you need a commercial license to sell tuna, and the price of tuna is WAY down.

Je.   You are correct.   Tuna is going for ~$2 a lb.  and last weekend the tuna brokers shut down around cape cod due to too many crappy/non fatty fish.   My buddy caught a nice fish and just had a great sushi party.    Don’t believe the prices on wicked tuna!!!   But I’ll tell ya bluefin on light tackle is the best fishing In the world!    Call coastal charter sport fishing and book a trip....it will be your best day of fishing in your life.    Tell capt Dom that DR sent ya!!

Derby Report: Knockin' Rocks

Fished a team-tourney on S. Watuppa Saturday and by all accounts (caught a limit and kept my boat in one piece), I am happy with the results. Unfortunately, I cant say the same for some of the rest of the field; Rock-tuppa is known for eating lower units, and it got at least one more this past weekend. Safe to say I hope I wont be returning for a while, given the quality of fish there isn't great...

That being said, someone always seems to catch 'em, and this weekend was no exception. We finished just a few ounces out of third place with 11.90lbs, with the leaders sacking up a healthy 14lb bag. There were 5-6 (out of 16) teams that brought in >10lbs, while only 3-4 teams failed to secure a limit. Big fish was a healthy looking 5lb largie that ate a ned-craw type presentation in 8ft of water (or so the angler alleged haha).

Given my past experience on Watuppa (two days not even getting a limit), my confidence heading into the whole deal wasn't exactly sky high, but then again, I felt like our team didn't really have anything to lose either. Our game-plan was very limited, so we really just tried to roll with the conditions...

Starting from the top-down, the conditions (partly sunny, 70-80 deg, West wind 10-15mph) set up fairly well for power-fishing, so we set out to try to establish an area with active fish. It took us ~3hrs to do so, but eventually we settled on fishing the wind-driven NW shores after getting a few non-keeper bites on topwater/squarebills. From there, we slowed down a bit and took a two-pronged approach, I threw a 1/2oz chatterbait while my partner dredged deeper rock with a 3/4oz FB jig. My partner nabbed a decent 2lber out in front of a concrete retaining wall, and then the ball started rolling from there...at one point I managed to catch three bass on three casts off the front lip of this concrete structure, as it seems like there were schools of 1.5-2.5lb fish moving in to trap bait-fish blown up against the rocks (even some gulls got in on the action). From there out, we ran around milking similar concrete / retaining walls scenarios on the Western shore, and it seemed like we'd come into contact with a school every hour or so. We managed to cull 5-6 times by the end of the day, but  never came into contact with a quality bite (our biggest ~2.7lbs). If I'd done it again, I think I'd of focused a bit deeper (8-10ft vs 4-6ft) for better quality once we'd gotten a half-decent limit.

Hey all.   I just started a new job and I’m close to the Charles river where 95 and the pike intersect.    Can anyone tell me where I could launch a kayak/park my truck (no trailer)?   And which direction to go??   Is stony brook basin worth a shot?  Thanks

There's a launch right in waltham that has some good fishing. You can go either way a couple of miles before reaching a dam or bridge in your Kayak.

Lots of good lakes and ponds in your area, the state has a sight you can go to that has maps, access address and species info.  As far as your boat goes, you can use it in MA with the NH registration but if you live in MA your at some point going to have to swap the registration to where you store the boat.

I dropped into Great South in Plymouth around 1500 and stayed until dusk, starting with the same Sexy Shad drop shot that proved successful at Great Herring.  A 15 ounce white perch nabbed it on the first cast.  It hit hard enough that I thought I had a good SMB.

I worked the drop off along the west bank and came up with a 1_4 SMB on a drop shotted green pumpkin/red Hula Grub.  From the west bank I pedaled into the far cove, tossing a wacky rigged 4" Perch Senko and a Perch Sexy Dawg topwater.  A 2_4 LMB inhaled the topwater in 6' of water.  It had a big head but could use a couple Whoppers.

From the cove I drop shotted the southern shore, drifting E - W 10 - 25'.  The drop shot didn't produce so I went back to the Sexy Dawg.  A 1_1 white perch smashed it like it was a 5 pound SMB.

I trolled a bright red/pink DT-16 back to the beach and caught a 1_3 white perch in about 30' of water.  I caught one more SMB, 1_6, on the 4" wacky Senko right before dusk.

An interesting afternoon where white perch were the dominant fish and almost bigger than the SMB I caught.  Great South is an interesting place.

It was nearly calm while I was there.  Water temps were 77.x - 78.x and the BP was 30.0.

That is a tough place! Never had a lot of luck there, always had a hard time locating fish. Did you fish LS on the way to GS? Never broke 2lb in either place!

Would I then have to pay sales tax on the boat because I’m registering it in MA?

Here's the link to the MA boat registration requirements, and the application you'll need to do so when you're ready.

Welcome to BR and Bassachusetts! ?

As for your question about tax:

Generally, if you paid a Sales tax of 6.25% or more to another state, you would not have to pay a Use tax to Massachusetts. See TIR 03-1 for more information.

If you paid less than a 6.25% Sales tax to another state and registered your purchase with that state, you would owe the difference to Massachusetts, if your purchase was brought into Massachusetts for use within 6 months.

It's on/off for me.  Locating the fish is surely the key.  Google Earth shows a good view of the place.  You can ALWAYS pick LMB out of the cove farthest from the canal and the bowl around the left point.

I've measured depths of 40+ feet past the island heading towards the south cove.

As far as LS, I fished it once or twice.  Like you, I've never pulled anything larger than a couple pounds from there.

My best SMB and LMB from GS are just under 4 pounds, with most in the 1 1/2 to 2 pounds range.

Mr. Aquarium's pulled some pigs out of there, fishing nights, using swim baits.

What a perfect time to be out on the water!

Hope some of you get out today!

I’ll be out tomorrow afternoon... location TBD.

Hope to get out this afternoon now that I've replaced the shear pin in the "aircraft carriers" peddle drive. ?

Funny you should ask that because I've been tossing a few around in my head all season...maybe I should let you guys put it to a vote, or make suggestions. ✔️

1.) USS Bass-Hawk CVA1 *

2.) USS Inferno CVA2  [because of the color- Fire Camo]

3.) USS B.A.Y. [big A** yak] CVA3

*[CVA (attack aircraft carrier)]

Would you settle for a battleship? Your profile location suggests the USS Bassachusetts.

I’ll go with #2.  USS or CV/CVA is up to you.

Hmmm...can't imagine why...too bad FF didn't have that color for your 11.5 it would match your truck!

They did but I thought it would be TOO much. It’s enough that I bought orange rod socks when I bought my truck.
