My plans have changed as well and I also plan on being there. Looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting new people. Quote

Super User MassYak85 Posted April 15, 2018 Super User Posted April 15, 2018 There's a "private" manmade neighborhood lake down here in VA within walking distance from me that I for some reason have never tried from shore. There's a small park with some decent shore access so I decided to give it a go. Glad I did! Finally broke my PB! Landed a 6.54lb fat girl on a spinnerbait. Seems like the bass down here are getting into the swing of things as far as the spawn goes. I also got another about half that size on a chatterbait in the same area.  Catching my PB down here almost feels like cheating lol, a semi-private lake, hybrid strain largemouth, during the height of the spawn. I do miss fishing up there. The water down here is always stained from the clay bottoms, I miss the clear natural lakes. Quote
Janderson45 Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 Got caught up in a spring cleaning project, not going to be able to make the meet and greet, sorry guys.  Hope to finally meet and fish with some of you this spring.  Fingers crossed for tight lines and warm weather until then!  2 Quote

Super User MassYak85 Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 Whitehall is a strange animal, I rarely do great there, but rarely get completely skunked and every now and then it gives me a day that gets me to come back. Plus I've heard of and seen the occasional giant (by MA standards at least) come out of there. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 Tax season is over so the wife and I are on the Cape for a few days.  I drove by Jenkins pond in Falmouth.  The state webside says there’s public access but the three beaches I found were chained up and posted as PRIVATE and part of XYZ association.  Bummer.  Despite the weather I launched at Hinkley’s around 2:30 or so.  The wind wasn’t bad at first but an hour into things the weather turned into a regular Nor’Easter.  I lasted another hour but packed it in when the white-caps came over my bow regularly...   Needless to say I didn’t catch anything.  Good news is my Frogg Toggs proved plenty waterproof.  I’m going back in the morning so ‘the boss’ can sleep & relax.  Water temps were 46.x.  Tomorrow’s game plan is blade bait, jerk bait, and maybe hair jig. Mr. Aquarium Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 i cant wait to get back in the swing of things. get out and get on some bass. found 4 new ponds that i cant wait to try out. heading out this afternoon. who knows where 1 Quote
gjfisher Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 I went out for the first time this year last week, before the cold front hit.  On Thursday I bank fished Hail Reservation in Westwood to try a new rod and a few new lures accumulated over last year's holidays. Got 6 LMB in about an hour, all dinks. Hail has been mostly a dink factory for me the last few years; I don't think I've caught anything more than 3lbs there. On Friday took my kayak out on the Charles for a couple hours and got 4 pickerels and a 3.5 lb LMB on a square bill. Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 i tried yesterday at my honey hole. fished swimbaits but didnt get any action. i think the cold front we had, cold and a lot of rain shut off the bite Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 19, 2018 Super User Posted April 19, 2018 OK, fishing Hinckley’s in the rain was a bust, but Tuesday turned out better.  Launched early in the AM and stayed until after lunch when the wind became too much.  Ended up with two SMB, one being 3-0, and a beat up LMB coming in at 2-10.  My gold/black Yozuri squarebill and blue/black Rage Tail Menace got the fish in the kayak. Water temps were 47.x.  Moved over to Seymore pond this morning, despite a forecast of 20+ MPH winds.  It was 36 degrees when I launched, and by 10:30 the wind was as forecasted so I bailed.  I tripped across Sand Pond, also in Harwich, and it was well protected from the wind so I launched.  Water temps were 46.x.  Three hours of paddling and tossing different Rapala DT’s, a NED, and a gold blade bait I came up with a yellow perch.  Water temp was 48.x - 49.x.  A passer-by stopped as I was packing up and asked how I’d done.  He said it was a good bass pond.  I’ll take him at his word based on the way my Lowrance was lit up.   I’d hoped for better luck but the weather was down right COLD and WINDY.  I don’t blame the fish for not cooperating....  I’m going back for REVENGE when the weather finally acts like SPRING! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 19, 2018 Super User Posted April 19, 2018 Meanwhile, the average high temp in May for Counce, TN is 80 degrees, with a record high of 95. Two weeks from now, I'll be well on my way, somewhere between Knoxville and Nashville. If I get a couple of days of rest, I might get out of here a day earlier. 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 went out for after work shore mission, had a good hit on jig, and a good wake behind my jig when i was reeling in, off to spot 2. missed a small pickerel on a skid stick. then to old faitful, greeted with windy cold conditions. had one hit on topwater. nothing happening at night yet. COME ON SPRING. HURRY THE HELL UP!!!!!! i had enough of this crap. havent caught a fish in 2 weeks, I hate this weather. 1 Quote

Janderson45 Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 No Quabbin smallmouth for me opening weekend, it was an unexpected slug fest on lake trout though.  All on bass baits and in some my typical smallmouth locations.  Water level is higher than it has been for the past couple years, DCR claimed it's at 95% capacity, I would guess it's still lower than that by looking at some old maps and Water lines/levels but either way, it's up by 5 or 6 feet from last fall in some spots.  water temp was 42-46, wind picked up nasty in the afternoon out of the north and we lost our anchor on a stump early on, made for tough bass fishing.  All of the Lakers came in 20-35' of water, mostly on ned rig or finesse swimbaits, although one hit a jerkbait as well.  They all had some good size to them (probably 4-6lb range) and we released them all since we didn't bring a cooler.   Fun day, hope to be back soon and find some smallmouth that have been eluding me here so far this spring! 1 Quote
