After work is in lynn, the profile pic is from deer island in winthrop

I thought North Shore, but wasn't sure.  I'm in Hough's Neck, Quincy.  Boston looks reversed from down here....

Had no work booked so I got out to Whitman's Pond on Thursday, early afternoon.  The wind was blowing hard enough that my 3.5# anchor wasn't doing squat.  I did my best for a couple hours, and without a strike, paddled my way back to the boat ramp and packed it in.

I drove to Billington Sea Friday morning because I've been told it's good fishing.  Found the boat ramp in Morton Park and hit the water around 8:30.  Since it was my first time there, I, from a distance, shadowed two guys on their bass boat.  Without so much as a strike, I packed it in around 2:00.  The two guys in the bass boat didn't seem to be catching anything either.  Though a total loss, fish wise, I made a bunch of mental notes about the place and plan on getting back there again.

Both days I used chartreuse and shad colored spinner baits, perch and bass 'flavored' Rapalas, and as a last resort, T-Rigged & Wacky rigged Senkos.  When talking to my neighbor who fishes a lot more than I do, he said he'd had a tough couple of days but added his belief of 'wind from the East, fish bite least' - who knows.

These two days, plus my previous trip to Wampatuck shared clear skies, air and water temperatures in the low 60s.  The one thing I noticed in Wampatuck and Billington Sea was that the water was pretty stained/stirred up, which might have factored into lack of bites.

This is my first Fall fishing from a kayak, so I'll just chalk my being skunked all week as just a learning experience.....

The north shore is a strange and mysterious place. I grew up in roslindale then moved to westwood in high school. I don't think I ever went to the north shore until I got a job up here.

I've been doing pretty well up here, not sure if the fishing is better or if I've gotten better at fishing.

Got over to BHR after the Pat's game today.  Caught two bass, about a pound or so, so not bad.  The first on my 'ususal' T-rigged gourd green Zoom, and the second one bit into a yellow perch flavored Rapala.  My chartreuse chatter bait didn't do much for me tonight but cruise the bottom.

Dropped my daughter @ school & beat feet to Billington Sea in Plymouth. 5 hours on the Eastern side proved fruitless, not so much as a bite. Worked depths between 5 & 12' throwing bass & perch flavored Rapalas as well a chartreuse chatter bait. Played with different retrieves, but nada.

Moved over to Little Pond, about a 1/4 mile away, where I had a decent Summer with soft baits. Again with the Rapalas, but switched the chartreuse chatter bait to a darker color. Two more hours of practice, but no takers.

My first Fall with the kayak seems to be an ongoing learning experience....

Haven't been out in about a week but how do you guys think this crazy weather is affecting the bite

I think it's a great way to rationalize my lack of success over the last couple of weeks which I've been out much more than I normally can.

Getting out there, somewhere, on Tuesday, wish me luck...

Got out of work this morning, had nothing on the  books for job #2, so I tossed the kayak on the truck and off to Whitman's Pond I went.  Tried a couple different rigs and ended up with one bass on a perch flavored torpedo I've had as long as I can remember - might have been a pound - not great, but not a dink.  Just prior, a good one grabbed my Zoom U-Tail but spit me: need to work on my hook setting....

Left Weymouth about 3:00 and headed to Little Pond in Plymouth with higher expectations.  A green/brown chatter-bait was fun to cast, but didn't produce.  A modified Carolina rig produced the same.  While getting ready to head home I found a 18' deep 'hump' towards the middle that averages 35 - 40', so I anchored and tossed a chrome/shad Rapala DT-10 Jerkbait and came up with a decent Rainbow Trout.

Overall I'd have to say it's been a tough Fall fishing season for me.  After reading 'tales' of folks killing it in other parts of the country and having the sparse pickings since late August makes me thing I'm fishing all wrong for the Fall, or the bite here was just way off.  I'll just chalk it up to my first year kayak fishing and/or inexperience with Fall Bass.

Oh well, keep at it I guess.

In early September I was doing really well, haven't had much time to fish lately. I might take next week off and give trout a shot.

After a week drought I finally caught two this morning. Both on squarebills one was a sexy shad and the other was the live target bluegill. That live target bait is so realistic. Today was probably the last good day we'll have

Got over to a small pond on a cranberry bog I know has good fish. Not terribly big, but good for shore casting. Only spent an hour there, and struck out anyway. Got called to bail out the boss' (read: WIFE) friend and conveniently ended up at Blue Hills Reservoir for 45 minutes - again nada... Though a guy fishing shiners across from me got two decent looking LMB.

Tomorrow's job got rescheduled. Weather permitting, I'll get out there somewhere & maybe focus on crank baits.

Got over to BHR an hour before dusk yesterday and threw a chrome Rapala jerk bait around for a while.  Switched to a candy-craw chatterbait off the bottom.  Got one decent hit but blew the hook set.

Had a pretty good fall but after Tuesday's Pickerelfest.....the boat went to the marina for winterizing this morning. Now I'm shorebound and waiting for spring. Rods need cleaning and fresh line anyway.

Went out for an hour or so in natick. Got a small pickerel off a jerk bait, and I think a turtle hit my senko. I was working the senko really slow, letting it sit for a few seconds then lifting it. On the pause I got a vicious hit, set the hook and tried to reel it in. It felt like I was snagged, wouldn't budge at all. Idk if I was snagged or if it was a big turtle, but it had me pretty excited for a second (I like to think it was a turtle)

OK, I'm parked in front of the TV watching the Pats beat the Broncos (2nd qtr).  It's 39.2 degrees outside but expected to reach high 50's to low 60's this week.  I've got day shifts off this week....  any predictions on the daytime bite?  If I don't head to Plymouth with the kayak, I'll be shore bound at Blue Hills Reservoir or Houghton's Pond.

I might try for some trout.  I've never fished for them & caught 3 my whole life on a shiner, Senko, and chrome Rapala jerk-bait: in that order.

If you're fishing a body of water known to have trout with your kayak try trolling small cranks, 1.5s and small jerk baits.

I'm planning on Little Pond, in Plymouth, if I take the kayak.  Houghton's Pond if I'm on foot.

Usually wen I fish for trout from shore I'll throw one line out with power bait and let that sit while I fish with another rod

I just had a good day before I go into work caught 4 all together 2 3lbs and another 2 about a 1.5. All on squarebills. I didn't think I would catch anything but it turned out pretty good for an hour of fishing.

Didn't get out on the kayak today.  Had EMT continuing ed. class and bought stock for another job.  Stopped by BHR but didn't fish for more than 15 minutes or so.  I spent an hour with my Sonarphone cast-able fish finder trying to find some fish.  I let it go with the current to its max broadcast distance of about 100M and located nothing in the places I let it go.

Average depth 20' off the bank was 18-22'.

Surface temp showed 41-42 degrees.

I'm planning on getting out tomorrow for a few hours.  I'll be using my canoe as it is the only vessel I have that can navigate the narrow channel between the ramp and the pond.  Been doing pretty well but the fishing has been slowing down.

I agree with you. I took my kayak to Jacobs Pond in Norwell yesterday morning after getting home from work. Within the 1st hour or so I caught 1 bass, 1 pickerel, and 2 yellow perch with a perch flavored Rapala topwater minnow. They were all little guys, but no complaints. My Lowrance showed a surface temp between 49 & 51.

Just as I started to work a jitterbug along some reeds I got called into work.

Perhaps I'll try casting for trout too.
