So why bass fishing? why do all of you like bass fishing the most over say pike or walleye or any of the other sport fish.

I mean what made y'all like bass fishing so much why do we like watching BASS and FLW with KVD, Ike, Skeet, and them guys and not the other pros like Pete Mania and the walleye and pike guys or the Redfish tournaments that seem to be on tv alot nowadays.

Huh, good question. Maybe its the fish thats found just about anywhere? Other fish seem to be regional, Bass are everywhere. Just a side note, Id rather fish for Snakeheads than Bass, they fight better.

Good question. I have no idea....LOL

I'm not really strictly for Bass fishing. I do a lot of other fishing also. Primarily I do fish for bass when I'm allowed to up here. But I call myself a smallmouth fisherman mostly what I target. I don't complain when I catch largemouth bass. I got a river here that holds a good amount of both of them together.

I fish for walleye for food and pikes when I wanna have some fun. A few times a year I go after the bluegills.

It doesn't involve trolling. Trolling, to me is quite boring. Finding the fish and patterns are somewhat the same, but the fish. hooking itself, takes much of the fun out of it. I like casting for fish and bass seem the most plentiful. I catch plenty of other species while bass fishing, and enjoy the fight of all the fish. I'm quite good at identifying the fish from the fight it puts up.

I will say this. If I could cast for king salmon year round, I'd never fish for bass again.

Several reasons I fish for bass more than others:

1. They are plentiful.

2. They can be anyting from very difficult to down right easy.

3.They battle you with vigor.

4.The take artificial lures readily.

5. They live in places I find relaxing.

When i was in about the 3rd grade i lived pretty far from all my school friends. During the summer all i really had to do was fish. There was a good sized lake behind my house that i would fish nearly everyday until someone can home from work or i got too sunburnt to fish anymore. I would wake up and try to find bassmasters or flw on tv to get all jacked up. Id grab a banana, gatorade, my 10$ south bend spinning reel and broken casting rod tie on a bomber flat a or 4a in firetiger and run to my pond and sling that thing all day. I just became addicted to hunting bass. fooling something in its own environment is just really exciting to me. also there is nothing like the feeling when you set that hook, you feel a bite and its like the world stops for an hour when in actuality its only a few seconds and then you jack the fish and all hell breaks loose. I just graduated from highschool and played highschool football and that feeling when you set the hook gets my heart going just as much as running onto the field or making a big play in a game. all i know is im addicted and fine with it.

I fish for bass because they're abundant, I don't have to drive a couple hours up into the mountains and wade up cold streams to find them, and I find it relaxing.

However, if I could find bluegill that routinely grew over 2-3 lbs, I'd give up bass fishing completely.

Availability and the type of fishing involved. I can go to just about any lake and get some decent bass fishing, but opportunities for decent pike or musky are far more limited. I find walleye boring, and salmon and steelhead put up a good fight, but once you learn a few things it seems like you can pretty much do the same thing every time and have decent success,at least in the rivers. Not into trolling all day.

On the other hand if I want a fish fry, panfish or perch are my choice.

Now I just need to get out and catch some, been working so much I've only been able to get in two hours of fishing since C&R season opened here.

When Iwas younger I just loved to fish with worms and catch bluegills, and some catfish. But one day I was this old crankbait that someone left ,and I knew they were for bass. I had not caught many bass before this so I tied it on, and gave it a whirl. The first cast I hooked one that was actualy pretty decent, but I didn't tie the knot tight enough and the fish broke off. So then I was hooked, and the next day bought three more Rapala crankbaits.

I ABSOULTELY love bass fishing, but I hunt Muskie, Trout and Walleye with the same amount of passion. I just love fishing in general, bass is just my favorite.

I fish for bass because of the challenge. Although I do like bream fishing about 3 times a year, crickets and bobbers are just too easy. I don't like catfishing, because it gets boring. Crappie fishing is fun, and they are good to eat. If I lived closer to brown trout waters........I would be a multi-species addict, and divorced at that! No musky, pike, walleyes or anything like that close. My options are bass, bream, crappie and catfish. I do have a passion for offshore fishing as well, but the closest drive to the shore is 5.5+ hrs, so it doesn't happen as often as I wish.

There are times that I'd much rather dedicate my time to saltwater fishing, both inshore and off. I sold my bass boat back in the early 90's and bought a 24' Aquasport CC. I gave up bass fishing because I got tired of fishing the same local lakes, but the jit skiiers is what pushed me over the edge. I kept one of my Loomis rods for the occasional bass trip, but invested in saltwater reels and built my own trolling, bottom, and inshore rods. I spent a lot of time wading the Indian river for trout and snook. I also did a lot of off shore trolling and reef fishing for snapper and grouper. The best thing about saltwater fishing is you never know what you might catch. I've caught redfish while targeting snook. I've caught dolphin while targeting kings and caught a porpoise while targeting spanish macks.

The type of saltwater fishing I was doing is very costly, especially trolling. Rods and reels are basically the same price for salt/fresh but there is ALWAYS something broke on a saltwater boat the needs attention. The salt is a BIT** when it comes to protecting your gear. Gas is expensive, especially if you fuel up at the marina.

I sold the Aquasport in the late 90's and went without a boat unil 2006. During my "boatless" time, I targeted snook from the local bridges and inlets. Bass fishing was left for the local neighborhood lakes.

I got the itch in 2006 to buy a bass boat to fish small, local tournaments, but wanted one that I could use in salt, without worrying about ruining the beauty of a nice bass boat. I looked at several flats boats but settled on a Tracker. I can use it inshore and for bass. I can also go off shore on calm days for dolphin. I feel bad for those people who have never hooked into a snook, permit or dolphin on lite tackle.

Now that I'm getting close to retirement, I'm considering a bass boat to use exclusively for fishing tournaments in the SE states.

I would hate to live without being able to bass fish and saltwater fish and doubt I could choose just one. My passion is for fishing, be it salt or fresh.

Umm here in Pa there is a kill order for them and I wouldn't hesitate to jamb my knife straight through the skull of one if I ever caught it here in Pa. Then use him for catfish bait! Don't save the snakehead, they don't belong here.

To actually answer the question now: I fish for anything and everything accept trout at this point. I find them boring. I'll fish Bass, pike, pickeral, walleye, musky, carp, crappie. Just about everything in the water. Hell, I'll even go out some days with worm chunks and just catch bluegills for an hour, just for the fun of it. Fishing in general is just awesome. But, Bass, well they give the best sport out there for freshwater. Especially those Bronzies!

Pike ? uh......there ain´t no pike where I live; walleye ? there ain´t no walleye where I live, trout ? well there is trout where I live but I have to travel to the highest part of the Sierra to find trout, so why bass ? cuz you can find them almost anywhere where I live, don´t have to travel much to find them and in my neck of the woods a 5 lber is just a relatively good sized fish.

I'd almost agree with that if it wasn't so much fun watching the village idiots I fish with try to deal with a triple header. I just sit behind the wheel and enjoy the show. Other than that, trolling take way too much fight out of the catching when you are dragging the fish behind the boat.

In the meantime, bass fishing filled a competitive niche that great lakes or walleye tournaments can't match.

I would agree with Lund Explorer that the main attraction in Bass fishing for me is to scratch my competitive itch. I enjoy fishing for anything I can catch on lures but I find that bass has other species beaten hands down when it comes to competitive angling structures. A lesser though still valid motivation is that I'm fascinated by the gear (boats, electronics, tackle and lures). The preparation for competition is almost as much fun as the actual fishing.

I prefer fishing for bass over the other local species because of how abundant they are, and the wide variety of tactic used to catch them. I don't plan on eating the fish I catch, so that plays into it, too. I really like the fact that there are so many walleye and panfish anglers around here, and sometimes the bass are overlooked.

Bass fishing first intrigued me when I was about 10 after catching a 4 inch bass in a local river, I told myself from then on I want to learn how to catch bigger ones, and I have and have been very successful.

Bass fishing still is a learning process to this day and I love the science involved with this past time.
