Why take the chance? Stay in the deep south where the fishing is great, the food is fried and the tea is sweet.

X3 on Smith Mountain.  But I didn't see much in the way of lodging or restaurants that could support this crew; but I've only been there once.

What was the final count of attendees at Pickwick (count me as in spirit only)

Virginia?  Heck, for me that's just a commute from southeastern MA, unless it's in the extreme southwest part of the state.  Even then, It's not much more than a twelve hour drive.  A piece of cake.

Don't quote me, but I think we were close to, or over 2 dozen.  Long Mike where are you?

I would definitely come to erie, its cheap to stay up there too, if you stay at the inn @ presque isle its under $40 for a room with two double beds and has three bars in walking distance. Another great backup option would be Pymatuning Reservour which is about an hour South or as suggest Chautauqua(headed there not this weekend but the following :) )

Also, if you go that time of year(april/may) you still have a great chance of getting into steelhead, you could even take a morning and hit them in the tribs.

I would also consider Smith Mt. . The brother in-law lives near the Potomac so I would just take the family and drop them off there, kill two birds with one stone.

Being from the Northwest I am inerested in south and warm....while we had some rain and wind at Pickwick the water was warm as were the fish so I am in for Pickwick, Kentucky lake, Guntersville, Bull Shoals, Toledo Bend,Eufaula even Lake Fork or Conroe in Texas......lots of warmer water and good populations of fish.

We kind of go through this every year. All of the East coast guys want to go to Erie, Champlain, Lake George, etc. and the FL guys want to go to Okachhobie, Stick Marsh, etc. I would love it if the Road trip were in my back yard, so I would be all over a trip in the NE somewhere.

The fact of the matter is, we have members coming form both coasts and everywhere in between. So the fair thing to do is what we have been doing. The TN River chain of lakes is a world class fishery and is centrally located so everyone has a chance to attend from all over the country. I have never traveled less than a 1000 miles to attend a road trip and have only missed one, but if I had to travel to CA (obviously some big bass there) it would be out of reach. I rode my motorcycle 2300 miles (round trip) this year because I couldn't afford the fuel for the BassBus and it worked out OK.

Also, most of us can fish our local waters any time we want, so the RT is an opportunity to try some new water. As much as I want everyone to come to MY place for dinner and fish in MY lake, I know it's not fair to those on the West side of the country to insist on it. I think we can look forward to meeting and fishing in the central part of the country. I caught more fish on this last RT than on any other and it keeps getting better. Just don't be disappointed if it's not in your home state.

Lastly, start making your plans now for next year. Find or bring some buddies to help with the travel & lodging expenses. Plan some of your vacation time. You won't regret it. IMHO.

See you next year! 2014 NO EXCUSES! :biker-039:

I know, but it never hurts to make a wish LOL !!

So when do we normally see a decision as to where it will be for the following year?

As long as we are wishing..............I wish gasoline would get cheaper....................cheap enough and I will drive anywhere in the lower 48! :dazed-7:

Like Alpster, I don't want a roadtrip to my backyard.  Not much to learn that way.  Despite gas prices, I'd drive anywhere I can get in a days time, maybe a little farther.  Stick Marsh and Erie are on my short list but too far as is Smith Mountain.  I think the Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennesse lakes are about right in that they have the warm weather and are central to most members.  Perhaps Arkansas or Missouri would work as well.  I have to say, the accomodations at pickwick were better than anything I have experienced in my own state.  We found the place to be beautiful, friendly, and inexpensive.

We can make plans for next year if we pick a date. I have found that it takes me at least a year to plan an out of state hunting trip, I cant see how a fishing trip would be any different.

As far as splitting the cost, I would have to meet someone from here. I listened to my friends cry about hunting in pa for the last fifteen years. Last year I put together a trip to ohio for $600 including tags, lodging, food and gas. Out of all of my good hunting buddies, the ones who complain the loudest not one went, with a YEAR of time to plan for it. Heck I didnt even ask them to contribute to planning or anything, just show up. So, I know better now, when I go to Iowa in 2015, ill be a lone dog then too unless I find someone on a forum with points who wants to join. Im not waiting my life away for people with no ambition.

We are already working on next year, but the official announcement is probably months away, sometime this fall.

However, if you really need a year to plan the trip, start takling with some local guys about it now. The date will most

likely be around the first of May.

I will defiantly be going next year. I had way to many expenses with a wedding coming to commit this year.
